Why the curtain on the lock screen Xiaomi hinders users
The lock screen on Xiaomi’s MIUI-enclosed smartphones contains what’s known as a “notification curtain,” a translucent panel that automatically unfolds when a device wakes up. For some users, it’s a convenient way to quickly access alerts, but for others, it’s an annoying element that closes 30-40% of the screen and prevents you from viewing wallpaper or widgets.
The problem is exacerbated by models with AMOLED-displays (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or Redmi Note 12 Pro)+), where the curtain creates uneven lighting, which leads to visual discomfort, especially in the dark, when the screen is lowered. MIUI 14 curtains can spontaneously open even in the absence of new notifications — a bug that the company has not yet fixed.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to turn off the curtain, including hidden settings, ADB commands, and even editing system files for advanced users. Importantly, some methods require an unlocked bootloader or root rights, which we will warn you about in advance.
Method 1: Disconnect via standard MIUI settings
On most Xiaomi devices (including Redmi and POCO), the curtain can be removed through the settings menu, but the path to this option depends on the version of MIUI. In recent updates (starting with MIUI 13), the company moved this option to the "lock screen" section, whereas in older versions it was in "Notifications".
Instructions for MIUI 14 (relevant to Xiaomi 14, Redmi Note 12, POCO F5):
- Open the Settings → Lock screen.
- Scroll down to the lock screen style block and tap it.
- Select your current style (usually a “MIUI” or “Digital Watch”).
- In the menu that opens, find the “Show notifications on the lock screen” switch and turn it off.
- Save the changes with the "Ready" button in the upper right corner.
If you have a MIUI 12 or older version, the path will be different.

Method 2: Use of the ADB-commands without root)
If the standard settings don’t work, as they do on custom firmware or regional versions of MIUI, you can use ADB, the Android debugging tool, which doesn’t require root rights, but requires connecting your smartphone to your computer.
Step-by-step:
- Turn on Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Tapneta 7 times on "MIUI Version" before notification

⚠️ Note: On some firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.EU), this file can be automatically restored after a reboot, in which case you will need to use the Magisk module to block changes or edit the file. /system/build.prop (riskily!).

Method 4: Using third-party launchers
If you don’t want to dig into settings or risk system stability, you can bypass the limitations of MIUI with alternative launchers, some of which (like Nova Launcher or Hyperion Launcher) allow you to fully customize the lock screen, including removing the notification curtain.
How it works:
- 📲 Install the launcher from Google Play (recommended Nova Launcher Prime – it supports lock settings).
