Why can’t Xiaomi’s “Do Not Disturb” mode automatically shut down?
Do Not Disturb (DND) mode on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphones is a useful feature for blocking notifications at important moments, such as sleeping, meeting or working. However, many users face the problem when the mode does not automatically turn off on a schedule or continues to block calls even after manually turning off, the reasons may lie in MIUI failures, application conflict or incorrect exception settings.
In this article, we’ll look at all the current ways to disable Do Not Disturb mode on Xiaomi phones (including the 2020-2026 models), and how to set exceptions for important contacts and apps. If your smartphone ignores the schedule or the DND button does not respond to clicking, here’s a solution.
Before you go to the instructions, check if the Ultra-Energy Saving mode is activated (in some firmware it blocks notifications globally). Also make sure that the phone has the latest version of MIUI installed - in the old builds (below MIUI 12), the DND algorithm was different.
Method 1: Quickly shut down via notification panel
The easiest method is to use the Quick Settings Panel. It works on all Xiaomi models, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Black Shark 5.
- Swipe your finger down the screen to open the notification bar.
- If the panel is shortened, swipe down again to turn it completely.
- Find the "Do Not Disturb" icon (usually a crossed bell or moon) and press it once.
- If the icon is illuminated in blue or purple, the mode is active. Once pressed, it should go out.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 13 Global) badge DND It can be hidden behind the "More" button (three dots). If it's not on the main panel, click "Edit" (pencil) and add it manually.

Method 2: Disconnection through system settings
If the notification bar is unresponsive or the DND icon is not available, use the settings menu, which is universal for all versions of MIUI, including MIUI 14 and HyperOS (for new models in 2026).
Instructions:
- Open the Settings app (cog on the desktop).
- Go to the section "Notifications and status bar» → «Don't disturb».
- At the top of the screen, you'll see the "Enable" switch. Turn it off by moving the slider to the left.
- If the switch has the inscription “on schedule” – click on it and delete all active rules.
⚠️ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 13T) The path may be different: “Settings» → «Sound and vibration» → «If you don't find a section, search by settings (lamp in upper right corner).
| Xiaomi model | The Way to DND Settings | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 11/12 | Settings → Notifications → Do not disturb | DND icon on Quick Settings panel hidden by default |
| POCO F4/F5 | Settings → Sound and vibration → Do not disturb | There is a separate mode "Sleep" with advanced settings |
| Xiaomi 13/14 | Settings → Notifications and Status Bar → Do not disturb | Supports exceptions for applications by category |
| Black Shark 5/6 | Settings → System → Do not disturb | Integration with game mode (can block DND) |
💡
If you don't get any notifications in your settings after you turn off the DND, restart your phone. Sometimes the com.android.systemui notification service freezes and requires you to restart.
Method 3: Cancel the schedule and automatic rules
A common cause of Do Not Disturb hanging is active schedule rules, such as if you set up automatic DND on between 23:00 and 7:00 but forgot to turn it off, the phone will block notifications every evening to remove these rules:
Steps:
- 🕒 Open "Settings» → «Don't disturb» → «Schedule».
- 🔄 Check the list of active rules. Remove unnecessary ones by clicking on the basket or turning off the switch.
- ⏰ If you use the "Sleep" mode (in some firmware) - turn it off separately.
- 🤖 Check for automating apps (such as MacroDroid or Tasker) that you may have configured DND trigger-wise.
⚠️ Attention: B MIUI 14 the “Adaptive Notifications” function appeared, which may automatically include DND It's based on your habits. To turn it off, go to Settings» → «Notifications» → «Adaptive notifications and deactivate the option.

Method 4: Set up exceptions for calls and notifications
Sometimes, Do Not Disturb mode doesn’t shut down completely because exceptions are allowed for individual contacts or apps. For example, if you add an important contact to the exclusion list, the phone may continue to block other notifications, creating the illusion of an active DND.
How to check and edit exceptions:
- Go to "Settings» → «Don't disturb» → «Exceptions».
- Check the sections: 📞 Calls: Are calls from All Contacts, Favorites or Repeated Calls Allowed». 📱 Messages: are there any messengers added here (WhatsApp, Telegram). ⚙️ Applications: Are there any system applications (for example, Calendar or Alarm clock»).
Remove all unnecessary exceptions or turn them off completely by shifting the top switch.
⚠️ Attention: POCO And Black Shark, in the exceptions section, can be a hidden option called "Game Mode — DND It will automatically turn on when you start games, even if you manually disabled it. To fix this, go to Settings» → «Game mode» → «Do not disturb and deactivate the function.
💡
Do Not Disturb exceptions take precedence over general settings: If a phone misses calls from specific contacts but blocks other notifications, the problem is in the exclusion list.
Method 5: Reset notification settings (if nothing helps)
If Do Not Disturb mode doesn't turn off any of these ways, there may have been a failure in the notification service, in which case resetting notification settings to factory will help, and this won't delete your data, but will return all permissions for applications to default.
Instructions:
- Open “Settings” → “Applications” → “Application Management”.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select “Reset App Settings”.
- Once the phone is restarted, all permissions for notifications will be reset.
- Return to Settings → Do not disturb and set the mode again.
⚠️ Note: After resetting, you will have to manually allow notifications for all apps (e.g. Viber, Instagram). To speed up the process, go to Settings» → «Notifications» → «Latest Notifications" and click "Allow All" for the right apps.
If the reset didn't work, the problem could be deeper, like in corrupted system files, in which case, try clearing the Settings cache:
Settings → Applications → All Applications → Settings (cog) → Memory → Clear the cacheMore tips: How to avoid DND problems in the future
To make the “Do Not Disturb” mode on Xiaomi work stably, follow these recommendations:
- 🔄 Update regularly MIUI. In new versions, bugs with automatic shutdown are fixed DND. Check for updates in “Settings» → «The phone» → «Updating the system».
- ⏱️ Use alternative alarm clocks. Xiaomi's built-in alarm clock may conflict with DND. Install Google Clock or Sleep as Android.
- 📵 Check "Airplane Mode." If it's on, DND It can be activated automatically. Turn it off in the notification panel.
- 🤖 Limit automation. Apps like this. IFTTT or Automate may include DND geolocation or time. Check their settings.
If you often forget to turn off Do Not Disturb, set up a widget on your desktop:
- Press and hold the empty space on the main screen.
- Select “Widgets” → find the “Do Not Disturb” widget (usually in the “Settings” section).
- Drag it to the desktop. Now you can turn on/off the DND with a single touch.
💡
On HyperOS models (such as Xiaomi 14), Do Not Disturb is integrated with Focus. To avoid conflicts, turn off Focus in the notification settings.
