Do Not Disturb (DND) mode on Xiaomi 11 is a useful feature that blocks notifications and calls at a given time, but sometimes it works inappropriately: miss an important call, do not see a message from the bank or wake the alarm in the morning, the worst thing is when the mode turns on spontaneously after a MIUI update or due to a failure in settings.
In this article, we’ve covered all the current ways to disable Do Not Disturb on Xiaomi 11, 11T, 11 Lite and other 2021-2023 models, including forced shutdown via quick settings and a hidden developer menu. If the screen is locked or the sensor is unresponsive, there’s a solution for that too.
Compounding the problem, newer versions of MIUI 14/15 have changed the path to DND settings, and some firmware may freeze in active state, and we have tested all methods on real devices and identified those that work even when system failures.
1. Standard shutdown via notification panel
The fastest way is to use a notification curtain, which works if the touch screen responds to touch and the system is not getting stuck.
Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar. Find the Do Not Disturb icon (usually a crossed bell or crescent). Tap it once, the mode will go off and the icon will disappear or turn grey.
If the icon is not on the main panel:
- Swipe down again to reveal the full Quick Settings panel.
- Find the button “More” (three dots or arrow) → “Edit” (pencil icon).
- Drag the Do Not Disturb icon to the active area.
⚠️ Note: Some Xiaomi 11 firmware after icon update DND You can hide behind the Mode button, and then you can tap it and select Off, opposite Do Not Disturb».
Swipe down for the notification panel|Find the "Do Not Disturb" icon»|Slip to shut down|Check notifications (test call arrives)/SMS)-->
2. Disconnection through system settings
If the icon on the panel is missing or unresponsive, use the settings menu. This method is universal for all versions of MIUI, including Xiaomi 11 on Android 12/13.
Instructions:
- Open the "Settings" (cog icon).
- Go to the section “Sound and vibration”.
- Select "Do Not Disturb."
- Move the slider to the "Off" position (left).
If the slider is not present or is inactive:
- 🔄 Reboot your phone – sometimes helps with temporary crashes.
- 📱 Check if Automode is included in the same menu.
- 🔧 Update. MIUI Up to the latest version (see section 5).
⚠️ Note: Some Xiaomi 11 with custom firmware may have different paths: Settings → Annexes → Permits → If you don't find it, search by settings (the magnifier icon at the top).
What to do if the sound and vibration settings are not available?
3. Forced shutdown via the developer menu
When standard methods don’t work (for example, after an update crash or when the DND freezes), a hidden menu for developers will help, allowing you to manually reset your mode settings.
Steps:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version (you will be notified "You are a developer").
"Settings"
"Extra"
"For developers."
"Don't disturb."
«Do Not Disturb»
Reboot the phone.
If the option is not in the developer menu:
- 🔧 Use it. ADB-team (see section 6).
- 📱 Check if it is blocking the work. DND Third-party applications (e.g., Digital Wellbeing or Game Turbo»).
💡
After disabling the DND through the developer menu, check if other sound settings (such as alarm clock volume) have reset.
Disconnection through the schedule (if the mode is switched on itself)
A common problem on Xiaomi 11 is that the “Do Not Disturb” mode is activated on a schedule, even if you haven’t set it up.
- 🗓️ Automatic rule in Google Calendar (for example, for meetings).
- ⏰ The “Sleep” function in Digital Well-being».
- 🔄 Failure after update MIUI.
How to remove automatic activation:
- Open Settings → Sound and vibration → Do not disturb → Schedule.
- Disable all active rules (sliders in the "Off" position).
- Check the “Exceptions” – it may be that important contacts or apps are blocked.
If the schedule is not in the menu, but the mode is turned on by itself:
- 📱 Remove the cache of the Settings app (Settings) → Annexes → Application management → Settings → Warehouse → Clear the cache).
- 🔧 Reset the Digital Well-Being Settings (Settings) → Digital well-being → Three points. → Reset the data).
| Reason for spontaneous DND switching on | Decision |
|---|---|
| MIUI update resets settings | Reset the rules manually or reset the sound settings |
| Conflict with the Game Turbo app | Turn off the “Do Not Disturb Games” option in Game Turbo settings |
| Synchronization with Google Calendar | Turn off automatic event creation in calendar settings |
| Viral software or malware application | Check your phone with an antivirus (e.g., Xiaomi Security) |
5. Updating MIUI as a solution to the problem
If no way to disable Do Not Disturb mode, the reason may be a firmware bug, as is true for Xiaomi 11 on MIUI 13.0.4–13.0.8 and some MIUI 14 builds.
How to update the system:
- Go to Settings → About the phone → System update.
- Click on "Check Updates."
- If a new version is available, download it and install it.
If the update doesn't help:
- 🔄 Try to roll back to the stable version through the Mi Flash Tool (instructions on the official Xiaomi website).
- 📱 Reset the settings to factory (Settings) → Additionally. → Recovery and discharge → Reset settings), but make a backup copy beforehand!
⚠️ Note: Before reset, check if your Xiaomi 11 is linked to your Mi Account. After reset, you may need to enter a login/password to unlock!
💡
Updating your firmware is an extreme method if other methods have not worked. Always back up your data before you reset or flash it!
6. Disable DND via ADB (for power users)
If the phone doesn’t respond to touch or Do Not Disturb mode is locked at the system level, Android Debug Bridge (ADB) will help. This method requires a computer and basic command line knowledge.
Instructions:
- Download and install ADB Tools on your PC (such as the official Platform Tools).
- Turn on USB Debugging on your phone: Settings → Additional → Developers → USB Debugging. Connect Xiaomi 11 to your PC and confirm debugging permission.
ADB
adb devices
adb shell settings put global zen_mode 0Reboot the phone.
If the team didn't work:
- 🔧 Try the alternative command: adb shell cmd notification set_dnd 0
- 📱 Check if it is blocking the work. ADB antivirus or firewall on PC.
What if the ADB can’t see the device?
7. Emergency shutdown if the phone is locked
Situation: Xiaomi 11 screen is locked and Do Not Disturb mode is active - alarm doesn't work, calls don't go through.
If the screen responds to touch:
- 🔑 Unlock the phone (PIN/graphical key/fingerprint).
- 📱 Swipe down for the notification panel and turn off DND (see section 1).
If the sensor is not working or the phone is getting stuck:
- 🔄 Forced reboot: Press the power button + Volume up for 10-15 seconds until the phone restarts.
- 🔌 Connecting to Charging: Sometimes when connected to the network mode DND drop off.
- 📡 Call from another phone: if DND turned on with an exception for repeated calls, call from the second number 2-3 times in a row - perhaps the phone will wake up».
⚠️ Note: Some Xiaomi 11 may require a password from your Mi Account after a forced reboot, even if it wasn't there before.
