Xiaomiβs MIUI-based smartphones are known for their abundance of pre-installed features that automatically activate after the first turn on, and many of them β from auto-start applications to system notifications β work by default, consuming resources and sometimes annoying users, but not everyone knows that most of these options can be completely disabled or reconfigured to suit their needs.
In this article, weβll look at not only the obvious ways (like turning off autostart in settings), but also hidden tricks β for example, how to remove the built-in Xiaomi apps without root rights or why some features come back after the MIUI update. The instructions are relevant for all modern models, from the budget Redmi Note 12 to the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
1. Disabling Auto-Run Applications by Default
One of the most annoying things about MIUI is that it automatically starts the background processes, even for programs you don't use, and it not only consumes battery power, it also slows down the system, so you can turn off auto-start.
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Select the Auto Start tab (on some firmwares - Autoboot).
- Turn off the sliders for unnecessary apps. Pay special attention to Mi Browser, Mi Video and GetApps, which are often hanging in the background.
β οΈ Note: Some system applications (e.g., com.miui.securitycenter) cannot be completely disabled, which will cause disruptions. MIUI. Instead, limit their activity through Settings. β Battery β Selection of applications by setting the Limited mode.
πΉ Mi Browser (if you use Chrome)
πΉ Mi Video and Mi Music (unless you watch local video)
πΉ GetApps and Mi Store (if you don't install games)
πΉ Facebook Services (if you donβt use Facebook)
πΉ Cleaner (if you donβt need automatic cleaning)-->
On POCO and Black Shark, the path may be slightly different: look for Settings β Apps β Permissions β Auto Run. Also, look at Special Accesses, where you can prevent applications from spontaneously turning on GPS, Wi-Fi or mobile data.
2. Remove the built-in Xiaomi apps without root
Many users want to get rid of pre-installed apps like Mi Community, Mi Pay or Themes, but are afraid to break the system. Fortunately, there are safe ways to do this:
- π± Through ADB: Connect your phone to your PC, turn on Debugging. USB (Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 Once you press to unlock, then follow the command: adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.mipicks Replace com.xiaomi.mipicks with the desired application package (see below for a list of popular packages).
- π§ Application Settings: Some applications (such as Mi Calculator) can be simply disabled in the app information menu, disappear from the menu, but remain in the system.
- π οΈ Mi App Store: Some apps (such as Mi Remote) can be removed in the standard way if they were installed as updates.
Important: Deleting system applications like com.android.phone or com.miui.home will cause your phone to fail. Always check packets before you delete them.
| Annex | Package for ADB | Can I turn it off without ADB? |

3. Disabling system notifications and advertising
MIUI is famous for intrusive notifications, from ads in Security to optimization tips, to turn them off:
- Go to Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Notification management.
- Enable the filter System applications and disable notifications for: π’ Security (advertising and advice) π Download Manager (download notifications) π¨ Themes (subject proposals) π± MIUI System (system advice)
To completely disable ads, go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version β click 10 times on the MIUI version, then enter the code ##4636## and select Turn off personalized ads.
β οΈ Note: Some firmware (especially global) may not have an ad-disabled point, in which case resetting ad settings via Settings will help. β Google β Advertising β Resetting the advertising ID.
π‘
If your ads are back after the MIUI update, check the settings in the Security app β Settings β Advertising recommendations. New switches often appear there.
4. Power saving setting by default
By default, MIUI aggressively optimizes the background activity of apps, which leads to missing notifications (e.g., on Telegram or WhatsApp).
- π Turn off the "Adaptive Battery": Settings β Battery β Adaptive battery β Turn off the slider. This will prevent automatic application restriction.
- β‘ Set up manual power saving: In the same section, select Application Choice and set the No Limits mode for messengers.
- π Turn off Optimization. MIUI": B Settings β Features β Optimization MIUI You can reduce the level of aggressiveness of the system (it is recommended to install Balanced instead of Extreme).
On POCO Launcher devices (e.g., POCO F5), these settings may be in Settings β Battery β Battery Settings. Also, pay attention to Deep Optimization β itβs best to turn it off if you notice lags when multitasking.
What happens if you turn off all battery optimizations?
5. Change of standard applications (browser, calls, SMS)
By default, MIUI uses its own apps for browser (Mi Browser), calls (Phone) and messages (Messages), which can be replaced by third-party:
- π Browser: Install Chrome or Firefox, then go to Settings β Annexes β Default applications β Browser and select an alternative.
- π Calls: To replace the standard call app, you will need Truecaller or Google Phone (not available on all models). β Annexes β Default applications β Phone.
- π¬ SMS: It is also replaced by settings. β Annexes β Default applications β Popular alternatives: Google Messages or Textra.
β οΈ Note: Some firmware (especially Chinese) cannot replace the standard call app without root rights. Also note that Google Phone does not support dual calls. SIM-Maps on some Xiaomi models.
If after changing the application by default, MIUI continues to open the old ones, clear the cache in Settings β Apps β All Apps β [application name] β Storage β Clear the cache.
Disable surveillance and data collection
Xiaomi collects anonymous device usage data to improve MIUI, and some of these features can be disabled:
- Go to Settings β About Phone β Sending reports and disable Send Error Reports and Participate in the MIUI Improvement Program.
- In Settings β Privacy β Special Permits β Access to Usage Data Disable Access for All Applications.
- To completely disable surveillance, go to Settings β Google β Google Account Management β Data and Personalization β Advertising Setup and Turn Off Ad Personalization.
Critical: On Chinese firmware (China ROM), it is impossible to turn off some of the surveillance functions without flashing on a global or European version of MIUI.
π‘
Disabling data collection does not affect the phoneβs core features, but may lead to less accurate recommendations in the Mi Store and Themes.
7. Reset all settings to factory (if nothing helped)
If after all the manipulations the phone continues to behave unstable (for example, the applications are returned disabled or the power saving settings are reset), a hard reset may help. Remember, this will delete all data from the device!
How to reset:
- Back up important data through Settings β About Phone β Backup and Reset β Local Backup.
- Go to Settings β About Phone β Backup and Reset β Reset settings.
- Choose to erase all data and confirm the action.
- After the reboot, set the phone as new, but donβt restore the settings from the backup β this will return the old default settings.
β οΈ Note: On devices with a blocked bootloader, a reset may result in a Mi Account requirement if Device Protection was previously enabled. Make sure to remember your username and password!
π‘
Resetting is a last resort: 90% of the time, cleaning the system application cache (Settings β Storage β Application Data β Cash) and restarting are enough.
