Floating wallpaper (or paralax-enabled βlive wallpaperβ) is a MIUI firmware feature that adds depth to the desktop when tilting a smartphone. However, not all Xiaomi Redmi users like this visual effect: it can distract, slow down the interface on weak models or simply annoy with constant movement. Unfortunately, in the latest versions of MIUI 13/14, the standard wallpaper paralax switch is hidden or removed β but this does not mean that the problem is insoluble.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to disable floating wallpaper on the Redmi Note 10/11/12, Redmi 9/10/11 and other models β from simple settings to hidden commands via ADB. You will learn how to remove the root-free effect, what restrictions apply on different versions of MIUI, and what to do if the wallpaper is turned on again after a reboot.
Why floating wallpaper can interfere: 3 key problems
Before we get to the instructions, it's worth understanding why we should turn this effect off at all. Here are the main reasons why Redmi users are looking for a way to remove paralax:
- π Increased battery consumption: gyroscope sensor and constant redrawing of wallpaper increase the load on the processor, which leads to an additional discharge of 5-12% per day (according to tests on the Redmi Note 10 Pro).
- π’ Lags and slowdowns: on budget models (for example, Redmi) 9A or Redmi 8) wallpaper animation can conflict with other processes, causing delays in swipes.
- π€― Irritation and motion sickness: for some users, the paralax effect causes discomfort similar to seasickness, especially with prolonged use of a smartphone.
Also, floating wallpapers are often reset after a MIUI update β even if you've previously disabled them through settings β because of Xiaomi's policy of forcibly turning on "branded chips" after major updates, but you can get around that restriction β we'll talk about it later.
Method 1: Standard Disconnection through Settings (MIUI 12 and older)
Most Redmi devices with MIUI 12-14 have a built-in paralax-disabled option, but it's hidden in a non-obvious place.
- Open Settings β Wallpaper (or Personalization on new versions).
- Select the current wallpaper (click on the desktop preview).
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the icon. βοΈ Settings (or Effects).
- Turn off the Floating Effect switch (or Paralax, Depth β the name depends on the firmware version).
Important: Some models (e.g. Redmi Note 11 Pro+) may not have this item, so move on to the following.
Check the version of MIUI in Settings β About the phone
Make a backup of the wallpaper (click long on the desktop β Save the wallpaper)
Close all background apps (especially launchers like Nova or HyperOS)
Connect your smartphone to charging (for ADB methods)
-->
Method 2: Through the Hidden Menu of Engineering Settings (without root)
If the standard method didnβt work, you can use Xiaomiβs test menu, which is available on all MIUI devices, which does not require superuser rights and works even on a locked bootloader.
Instructions:
- Open the phone app and enter the combination: ##6484###
- The MIUI Testing menu will appear (if it doesn't open, try ##64663###).
- Go to the Wallpaper (or Wallpaper) section.
- Find the Disable Parallax Effect and activate it.
- Reset the device.
Warning: Do not change the other options on this menu unless you know what they are, and misconfigured settings can cause sensors or cameras to malfunction.

Method 3: Disconnect via ADB (for power users)
If previous methods have not worked, there is a universal way through ADB. It requires connecting the smartphone to the computer, but it is guaranteed to turn off floating wallpaper on any version of MIUI.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux
- π± USB-cable (original or quality)
- π οΈ Utilities. ADB Fastboot (you can download from the official Android website)
- π§ Included debugging by USB smartphone
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Return to Settings β Additional β For developers and enable USB debugging.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and confirm the debugging permission.
- Open the command line (or Terminal) macOS/Linux) file ADB Adb shell settings put global settings put global window_animation_scale 0 settings put global transition_animation_scale 0 settings put global animator_duration_scale 0 pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.home Last command to disable standard launcher MIUI, So install an alternative (like Nova Launcher) before restarting.
- Reset the device.
β οΈ Warning: Disabling the system launcher can cause gestural and widget malfunctions. If the screen turns black after the reboot, install any launcher through the window. ADB Team: Adb install nova-launcher.apk
Method 4: Using third-party launchers
If you don't want to mess around with the system settings, you can simply replace the standard MIUI launcher with an alternative one. Most third-party shells (like Nova Launcher, Lawnchair or Hyperion) don't support default floating wallpaper.
How it works:
- Install any launcher from Google Play (we recommend Nova Launcher β it is lightweight and stable).
- When you first start, select it as the default launcher.
- Set static wallpaper through the settings of the new launcher.
Advantages of the method:
- β Does not require rooting or ADB.
- β Additional customization functions (icons, gestures, folders).
- β Compatibility with all versions MIUI.
Disadvantages:
- β Some chips MIUI (Super Wallpapers will be unavailable.
- β Battery consumption may increase due to the operation of two launchers (solved by disabling the system through the ADB).
π‘
If after installing a third-party launcher, the wallpaper still βfloatsβ, clear the cache of the Themes application (Settings β Applications β Application Management β Themes β Clear the cache).
Method 5: Manual editing of system files (root only)
For users with unlocked bootloaders and root rights, there is a radical method of editing the system files responsible for animation of wallpapers, which is guaranteed to turn off paralax forever, but requires caution: improper changes can lead to a βbrickβ of the device.
Instructions:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
- Go to /system/media/theme/default/wallpaper/.
- Find files with the.parallax extension (for example, default_wallpaper.parallax) and rename them to.bak.
- Open /system/build.prop and add the line at the end: debug.parallax.enable=0
- Save the changes, set the file rights 644, and restart the device.
β οΈ Note: Before editing system files, back up the partition /system through TWRP or ADB. If the smartphone does not boot after the changes, restore the original files.
| Method | Difficulty | Required. root/ADB | Compatibility | Reversibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard settings | β | β No. | MIUI 12-14 (not on all models) | β Yes. |
| Engineering menu | ββ | β No. | Most devices | β Yes. |
| ADB-team | βββ | β ADB | All versions of MIUI | β Yes (pm enable team) |
| Third-party launcher | β | β No. | All versions. | β Yes. |
| Editing system files | ββββ | β Root | All versions (risk of failure) | β οΈ Partially (needs backup) |
What to do if the floating wallpaper returns after the update
Many Redmi users are faced with the fact that after the MIUI update, the paralax effect is turned on again, which is due to the fact that the system resets some settings to the standard.
- π Automate Shutdown: Use MacroDroid or Tasker to automatically run after each update. ADB-shutdown.
- π« Turn off automatic updates: Go to Settings β The phone. β Updating the system β βοΈ β Auto Update and select Off..
- π¦ Install custom firmware: for example, Xiaomi.eu or Pixel Experience β they floating wallpaper disabled by default.
If you donβt want to opt out of official updates, the most reliable way is to use the updates. ADB-A script for forced shutdown after each update. Example of a Windows script:
@echo off
adb shell settings put global window_animation_scale 0
adb shell settings put global transition_animation_scale 0
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.home
pauseSave this code to a file disable_parallax.bat and start it after each update.

The most reliable way to permanently get rid of floating wallpaper is to combine the method with ADB and disable automatic MIUI updates.
