The lock screen on Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi and POCO models) by default displays a summary of notifications, messages and even snippets of correspondence – this is convenient, but not always safe. If you want to hide personal information from prying eyes or just get rid of visual noise, this instruction will help to completely disable the view on the locked screen. We will look at all the current methods for different versions of MIUI (12 to 14) and Android (10-14), including hidden settings and workarounds for stock and custom firmware.
The problem is that Xiaomi regularly changes the layout of options in the menu, and some features (such as Sensitive Notifications) may not be available on budget models or regional versions of the software. In this article, you'll find not only standard methods, but also alternative solutions, from editing system settings to using third-party applications. MIUI 14 and later, the functions moved to the section "Privacy", and not to the "Notifications", as it was before.
Why are notifications displayed on the lock screen?
By default, Xiaomi shows on the locked screen:
- 📱 Summary of communications (SMS, messengers, mail)
- 🔔 Notifications from applications (social networks, games, system alerts)
- 📞 Missed Calls Information (Contact Number or Name)
- 📅 Calendar events and reminders
- 🔒 Unlocking prompts (e.g., “Swipe up to unlock")
This is done for convenience, because you can quickly see important information without unlocking your phone, but this approach poses risks.

Method 1: Disable notifications via MIUI settings
The easiest and safest method is to use the built-in system options. The instructions are relevant for MIUI 12-14 based on Android 10-14:
- Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
- Go to Notifications and Status bar (on some models, Notifications).
- Slip on the Notifications item on the lock screen.
- Choose one of the options: 🔒 Not to show notifications – complete shutdown. ⚠️ Show without content – there will be only app icons. 📱 Show everything (by default).
On Xiaomi with MIUI 14, the path may differ: Settings → Privacy → Notifications on the lock screen.

⚠️ Note: On some models (Redmi) 9A, POCO M3) post-update MIUI 13.5 the option "Do not show notifications" may be reset after rebooting.In this case, use Method 3 (ADB-team).
Method 2: Hiding Sensitive Notifications
If you only need to hide private messages (such as from WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS), but leave system notifications (calls, alarms), use Sensitive Notifications:
- Go to Settings → Notifications and Status bar → Sensitive Notifications.
- Activate the Hide Content Switch on the Lock screen.
- In the list of applications, mark those whose notifications you need to hide (for example, Viber, Signal, Banking applications).

If the app isn’t on the list, try first turning off notifications for it completely in the Settings menu → Apps → [App Name] → Notifications, then turn them back on – the option should appear.
Method 3: Disconnect via ADB (for power users)
If the standard settings do not work (for example, after updating the firmware), you can use the ADB-This method requires you to connect the phone to the computer and enable debugging. USB.
