Xiaomi Redmi and Poco series smartphones often delight users with thoughtful functionality, but sometimes system functions begin to get in the way. One of these features is the Do Not Disturb mode, which blocks incoming calls and notifications. If you missed an important call or do not see messages, most likely, this is the problem.
In this article, we will discuss in detail how to turn off Do Not Disturb on devices with the shell MIUI and HyperOS. We will look at manual shutdown through the curtain, deep system settings, and also analyze cases when the mode is turned on automatically on a schedule.
Owners of Redmi Note and Xiaomi Mi often experience the status bar crescent icon burning constantly, even if the user has not manually activated the feature, which may be due to system errors or activated Sleep and Meeting profiles.
Quick shutdown through notification curtain
The easiest way to remove intrusive mode is to use the Quick Access Panel. Swipe down from top to bottom to open the Control Center. Find an icon that depicts a crescent or says "Do Not Disturb."
Click on it to deactivate the function. If the icon is gray or blue, the mode is active. Once pressed, it should go out, and the corresponding symbol will disappear in the top status bar.
However, on some versions of MIUI, the icon may be hidden. To display it, click on a pencil or edit button in the corner of the curtain and drag the DND icon to the active panel.
If after deactivation the crescent icon returns after a few seconds, then the system has launched an automatic script, which we will consider below.
Deep customization through the phone menu
If the standard switching doesn't work, you need to check the internal settings of the system. Go to Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Don't disturb. All the key switches are here.
In the menu that opens, you'll see a mode activation slider. Make sure it's off. Below are exception settings that allow calls from favorite contacts to pass even when DND is on.
Note the "Repeat Calls" section, which is that if this option is active, a second call from one number in 15 minutes will be heard, which is a useful feature, but it can confuse users who think that mode is off.
โ ๏ธ Note: In newer versions of HyperOS, the path to settings can be changed.Look for the Digital Well-Being section or search for settings by entering the "Do Not Disturb" queryยป.
You can also set the lock screen behavior and notification visibility in this menu, and turning off all options here is guaranteed to return the standard behavior of the smartphone.

Scheduling and automation management
Often users forget that they have activated the mode on a schedule.Redmi smartphone can turn on silence at a given time, for example, at night or while sleeping.
In the Do Not Disturb settings menu, look for Schedule or Auto Turn on. Sleep or Meet profiles may be active here. Click on the active profile to change the settings.
You can turn off the automation completely or change the time frame, for example, if the phone is silent from 23:00 to 07:00, but you went to bed later, you should shift the interval.
- ๐ Sleep is a profile that often syncs with the alarm clock and turns off when you turn it off in the morning.
- ๐ Meeting โ a mode that can be activated automatically when you add an event to your Google or Xiaomi calendar.
- ๐ Geolocation is a rare but possible setting that includes silence when in a particular location (office, cinema, etc).
Check out the Security or Optimization app as well. There may be hidden triggers in the Battery or Sleep mode section blocking notifications to save energy.
What to do if the schedule is reset?
Set up exceptions for contacts and applications
Sometimes you don't have to turn off silence completely, you just need to set exceptions right, and that will allow you to sleep well, but not miss a call from your loved ones or a message from your bank.
From the DND menu, select "Exclusions" or "Allow notifications from" where you can select the specific applications that will be calling from, and you can also select "Favorite Contacts" setting.
To add a contact to your favorites list, open the Contacts app, select the right person and click on the asterisk or the Add DND Exceptions option.
| Type of exception | Description of action | Where to find on the menu |
|---|---|---|
| Selected contacts | Calls and SMS from asterisk-marked numbers | DND settings โ Exceptions โ Contacts |
| Annexes | Notifications from messengers or banks | DND settings โ Applications |
| Repeated calls | Second call from the same number in 15 minutes | DND settings โ Repeated calls |
| Alarm clocks | System alarm (always active) | Systemic constraint |
Use these settings to create a flexible alert system that wonโt distract you on trifles but miss out on critical information.
๐ก
Tip: Add emergency services and close relatives numbers to your favorites list to be available in all situations, even when silence mode is on.
Problems with third applications and third-party software
Not only can system settings block sound, but third-party memory cleanup applications, antiviruses, or smart alarm clocks can intercept the control of audio profiles.
Check installed apps with administrator rights or notification access. Often programs like Clean Master or various launchers have their own Night Mode modes.
Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management. Find suspicious utilities and check their permissions. If the app requests access to Do Not Disturb Mode, revoke that permission.
Itโs also worth checking the settings of the app itself, which doesnโt ring. WhatsApp or Telegram may have its own internal DND settings that override the system settings.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you have installed an automation app (such as Tasker or MacroDroid), check the macros you have created. They may force silence when connecting to a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth headset.
Resetting settings and eliminating program errors
In rare cases, software failures (bugs) occur in the operation of the MIUI or HyperOS shell, due to which the โmoonโ icon hangs in the status bar, even if the function is turned off.
The first step is to try a banal but effective reboot of the device, which will clear the temporary cache of the system processes responsible for notifications.
If the reboot didnโt work, you can reset your audio settings. Go to Settings โ Advanced Settings โ Reset. Select the option to Reset your Wi-Fi, mobile network and Bluetooth settings or reset your system settings completely (requires caution).
- ๐ Reboot โ Turn off the phone completely and turn it on in 10 seconds.
- ๐ ๏ธ Safe Mode โ boot in Safe Mode (clamping the off button) to check if the third-party app is to blame.
- ๐ฒ Software Update โ Check for system updates as Xiaomi often releases bug fixing patches DND.
In extreme cases, if the bug is critical, a complete reset to factory settings with data loss may be required, but this method should only be resorted to after backups.
๐ก
If the icon โmoonโ does not disappear after all the manipulations, the problem may lie in the damage of the system file settings, and the only solution will be reset to factory settings.
