The Xiaomi calendar is a useful tool for planning things, but it can sometimes become a source of annoyance: Automatically added holidays, birthdays from contacts, or duplicate events from third-party services (Google Calendar, Outlook) fill the schedule with unnecessary information, even worse, annoying notifications about events that do not concern you: corporate meetings of a former employer, events from deleted accounts or spam from apps.
In this article, weโll look at all the ways to turn off events on the Xiaomi calendar, from simply hiding individual events to completely disabling sync with external services. The instructions are relevant for devices on MIUI 12/13/14 (including Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Mi 11 and other models), and take into account the peculiarities of working with Google Calendar and local events. If you are annoyed with specific types of events โ for example, automatically added holidays or birthdays โ here you will find a solution for your problem.
1. How to hide individual events in the Xiaomi calendar
If you only want to take out certain events (like old meetings or synchronization errors), you don't have to delete them forever. MIUI has a cover-up feature that temporarily removes events from the main view, but keeps them in the archive.
To cover up the event:
- ๐ Open the Calendar app on your Xiaomi.
- ๐ Find the event you want to remove and tap on it.
- ๐๏ธ In the window that opens, press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Hide the event.
- ๐ To return it back, go to Settings. โ Hidden events.
This method is suitable for one-off events, but it will not help if you want to massively remove events of the same type (for example, all birthdays).
๐ก
If the event is hidden in error, it can be restored within 30 days through the Recycle Bin section in the calendar settings.
2. disable automatically added holidays and birthdays
By default, MIUI pulls up public holidays (like New Year's Day or March 8) and birthdays from contacts, which can't be manually deleted - they reappear after synchronization.
- Open the calendar. โ press on โ๏ธ Settings (cog in the upper corner).
- Select Calendar Management.
- In the list, find the items: ๐ Holidays [your country] - turn off the slider. ๐ Birthdays โ Deactivate them too.
Ready.
After that, all automatically generated events will disappear from the main view, but they will remain in the system and may reappear when the next MIUI update or region change occurs. To avoid this, we recommend also disabling automatic synchronization (for this, see section 4).
3. Removal of events from Google Calendar (if synchronization is enabled)
Many Xiaomi users sync the calendar to Google Account, in which case events are managed via the web version of Google Calendar, and only a copy is displayed on the smartphone.
Method 1: Through the application Calendar on Xiaomi:
- ๐ฑ Open the event you want to delete.
- ๐๏ธ Press Delete. โ Select Remove from all calendars (this will remove it from Google as well).
- โ ๏ธ If the option is not available, you do not have editing rights (for example, an event created by another user in a shared calendar).
Method 2: Through the web version of Google Calendar:
- Go to calendar.google.com from your computer or phone.
- Find the event โ click on it โ select Delete (or Cancel if it is an invitation).
- For mass removal, use the filter: click Search (magnifying glass) โ type in a keyword (such as "meeting") โ tick events โ delete.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you delete an event from Google Calendar, it will disappear from all devices that sync is enabled. To simply hide it on Xiaomi, turn off the display of a specific calendar in the settings (Section 2).
4. Completely disabling calendar synchronization with accounts
If youโre annoyed by all events from external sources (like Google, Outlook, or Exchange), you can turn off sync completely, a radical method that leaves only local events created manually on your smartphone on the calendar.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings โ Accounts and Synchronization.
- Select an account that syncs your calendar to (such as Google or Mi Account).
- Turn off the slider opposite the Calendar.
- Confirm the action by clicking Disable Synchronization.
After that, all events from this account will disappear from the Xiaomi calendar. To return them, turn them back on sync. Note: this method does not delete events from the account itself (for example, from Google), but only stops displaying them on the phone.

5. How to remove event notifications (without deleting events)
Sometimes the problem isn't with the events themselves, but with the annoying reminders, like a calendar that might give you a week's birthday, even though you prefer to remember it in a day, and in MIUI, you can turn off notifications for certain types of events or turn off alerts altogether.
Configuring notifications:
- ๐ Open the calendar. โ Settings โ Notifications.
- ๐ต Turn off Event Reminder slider to remove all alerts.
- โ๏ธ To fine-tune, tap on Notification Settings for calendars and select which types of events to show reminders for (for example, only for face-to-face meetings).
- โฐ To change the time of the alert, open the event. โ Edit โ Reminder โ Choose a time without reminder or set another time.
Important: If you turn off notifications globally, the calendar will stop alerting even important appointments, and it is better to set exceptions for individual calendars (for example, leave reminders only for work events).
6. Resetting the calendar to factory settings (last resort)
If the calendar is full of garbage, and the previous methods didn't work, you can do a complete reset, which will delete all local events and return the settings to the "post-purchase" state. Google events and other synchronized data will remain intact.
How to reset your calendar:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find the calendar in the list and tap it.
- Select Warehouse. โ Clear the data.
- Confirm the action by pressing OK.
โ ๏ธ Note: This method removes all local events created on the phone, including repetitive events. Synchronized data (from Google, Outlook) will remain, but they will have to be re-connected in the calendar settings.
After the reset, we recommend:
- ๐ Enable synchronization with only the right accounts.
- ๐ซ Turn off automatic addition of holidays and birthdays (section 2).
- ๐ฅ Manually import important events from a backup (if any).
7.Alternative calendars for Xiaomi: what to choose instead of the standard
If the built-in MIUI calendar doesnโt work well even after all the settings, consider third-party apps that offer more flexibility in managing events and notifications.
| Annex | Advantages | Deficiencies | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Calendar | Easy synchronization, integration with Gmail, voice addition of events | Can duplicate events, a lot of advertising in the free version | Play Market |
| Business Calendar 2 | Extended widgets, color marking, task support | Premium version for all functions | Play Market |
| DigiCal Calendar | Minimalist design, weather support, synchronization with 40+ services | No Russian localization | Play Market |
| Etar | Open-source, no advertising, easy and fast | Minimalist functionality, no widgets | Play Market |
Before setting a third-party calendar:
- ๐ Turn off sync in the standard application (Section 4) to avoid duplication.
- ๐ฅ Export important events from MIUI Calendar to.ics file (via Settings) โ Exports).
- ๐ก๏ธ Check the permissions of the new app โ some calendars request access to contacts and location.
๐ก
The standard MIUI calendar is suitable for basic tasks, but if you need advanced features (like integration with Notion or Trello), itโs better to use third-party solutions.
