Cruise control on Xiaomi electric scooters is a useful feature for long trips on flat roads, but not always convenient in urban conditions. Automatic speed maintenance can cause uncontrolled acceleration on descents, create discomfort when maneuvering in the flow of pedestrians or cyclists, and in some cases even provoke emergency situations. If you encounter the fact that the scooter spontaneously accelerates or does not respond to braking due to activated cruise control, turning it off becomes not a whim, but a necessity.
In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to deactivate the function, from standard settings in the official Mi Home app to manually resetting through a combination of buttons and even changing the firmware for advanced users. M365, Pro 2, 1S, 3 Lite and 4 Pro, as the switching algorithms may differ, and you will learn how to check if cruise control is deactivated, and what to do if the scooter is not listening after manipulation.
What is cruise control on a Xiaomi scooter and why it should be turned off
Cruise control (or automatic speed maintenance) is a function that captures the current speed of the scooter after 5-8 seconds of holding the gas handle in one position, which the system recognizes as the user's desire to go at a constant speed and blocks the accelerator handle, freeing the hand from having to constantly press the gas.
- π¦ Loss of control on rough roads or when obstacles appear.
- π Increased battery consumption, as the system tends to maintain a given speed even when resisting (wind, lift).
- π¨ Risk of accident when descending from the slide - the scooter can accelerate to dangerous values.
- π Slow reaction to braking if cruise control is activated at the time of brake application.
Xiaomi has this feature on most models as a βuseful optionβ but in urban driving, it often gets in the way, especially for newcomers. M365 Cruise control is already operating at 6 km/h, which may come as a surprise to the inexperienced rider. On the Pro 2, the trigger threshold is raised to 10 km/h, but it is not always safe.
β οΈ Note: Scooters with firmware below version 1.5.4 (e.g., early batches) M365) Cruise control can be activated accidentally due to software bugs, in which case it is necessary to turn off the control!
Method 1: Disconnect via the official Mi Home app
The easiest and safest method is to use the branded Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home for newer versions), which is suitable for all Xiaomi scooters released after 2018, including the Xiaomi Scooters. 1S, Pro 2, 3 Lite and 4 Pro. The main condition is that the scooter must be connected to the application via Bluetooth.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Mi Home app and select your scooter from the device list.
- Go to Settings of the scooter (or Control in new versions).
- Find Cruise Control (Cruise Control) or Automatic Speed Control.
- Turn the slider to the off position (or uncheck the tick).
- Save the settings and restart the scooter (press the power button for 3 seconds).
If Cruise Control is not on the menu, your model does not support software shutdown through the app, in which case move on to the following ways.
Make sure the scooter is at least 20% charged.
Update the Mi Home app to the latest version
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone
Connect the scooter to the application (if not connected)
-->
| Model scooter | Supports shutdown via Mi Home? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi M365 | Yes (firmware 1.5.4 and above) | Older firmware may not have an option |
| Xiaomi Pro 2 | Yes. | The menu item is called Cruise Control. |
| Xiaomi 1S | Yes. | The latest version of Mi Home is required. |
| Xiaomi 3 Lite | Partially. | On some firmware, the option is hidden |
| Xiaomi 4 Pro | Yes. | Settings in the Driving Assist section |
Method 2: Hardware shutdown via button combination
If the Mi Home app doesn't help or the scooter doesn't connect to the phone, you can use a hidden button combination on the body. M365, Pro and Pro 2, but require precise sequence. The error can cause other settings to reset!
Instructions for Xiaomi scooters (except for the 4th series):
- Turn off the scooter (press the power button for 5 seconds).
- Hold the power button and simultaneously press the brake lever (or the brake button on the steering wheel, if any).
- Without releasing the power button, press the lights on button three times (or the driving mode button if there are no headlights).
- Release all the buttons. The scooter will emit a double beep, which means that the cruise control is off.
For Xiaomi 4 Pro and 4 Ultra models, the combination is different:
1. Turn off the scooter.
Hold the power button + the light button for 10 seconds.
3. After vibration release the buttons and immediately press the brake lever 2 times.
4. wait for the sound signal (1 long horn).β οΈ Note: On scooters with custom firmware (for example, CFW or ScooterHacking, the hardware combinations may not work or lead to unexpected results. In this case, use method 4 (firmware).
What to do if the combination does not work?
Method 3: Resetting the scooter to factory settings
If previous methods didn't work, you can reset the scooter completely, which will bring all the settings back to factory, including turning off cruise control (on most models it's off by default), but note that the reset will also reset:
- π mileage travelled (mileage counter).
- β‘ Energy saving settings (if changed).
- π Loudness of audible signals.
- π‘οΈ Lock password (if set).
How to reset your settings:
- Turn off the scooter.
- Press the power button and the lights button at the same time for 10-15 seconds.
- Wait until the scooter vibrates and emits three beeps.
- Release the buttons. The scooter will reboot with the factory settings.
After reset, check if the cruise control is turned off by accelerating to 10-15 km / h and holding the gas in one position. If the scooter does not record the speed, the function is deactivated.
π‘
Before reset, take a picture of the Mi Home app screen with the current settings (e.g. speed limit, driving mode) to help you quickly recover them after resetting.
Method 4: Disconnect through custom firmware (for advanced)
If you use an alternative firmware (for example, CFW, ScooterHacking Utility, or XiaoFlasher, can be turned off through its settings, a method that is suitable for users who have already modified their device and have experience with firmware. Wrong actions can lead to loss of warranty or failure of the scooter!
Firmware instruction CFW:
- Connect the scooter to the PC via Bluetooth or cable (depending on the firmware).
- Open a firmware management program (e.g., ScooterHacking Utility).
- Go to Driving Settings (or Cruise Control)
- Find Cruise Control Enabled and set False.
- Save settings and restart the scooter controller (usually you need to turn off/on power).
For XiaoFlasher firmware:
1. In the main menu, select "Advanced Settings".
2. Scroll through to the "Cruise Control" block.
3. Check the box "Disable Cruise Control".
4. Press "Apply" and wait for the process to be completed.β οΈ Note: Installing custom firmware will void Xiaomiβs warranty and may disrupt other features (e.g., other features, ABS Use this method only if you are confident in your actions!
π‘
Castom firmware not only disables cruise control, but also increases top speed, changes accelerator response, or adds new driving modes, but it requires technical knowledge and is risky for beginners.
Method 5: Physically disabling the sensor (extreme case)
If software methods don't work (e.g., on scooters with a damaged controller), you can physically disable the cruise control sensor, which requires disassembly of the scooter and basic electronics skills, and we recommend it only when absolutely necessary, because it:
- π§ Requires opening of the case (risk of damage to seals and loss of warranty).
- β‘ It can cause controller errors if you turn off the wrong connector.
- π οΈ Requires soldering or use of tape to isolate contacts.
How to find and disable the sensor:
- Remove the bottom cover of the scooter (usually attached to 4-6 screws).
- Find a controller (a black box with wires, usually next to the battery).
- Disconnect the sign-up connector CRUISE or THROTTLE SENSOR (on some models it is a tourniquet of 3-4 wires coming from the handle of gas).
- Insulate the connector with a shrink tube or tape to avoid short circuit.
- Collect the scooter and check its performance (cruise control should be turned off, but the gas handle should work normally).
On Xiaomi scooters M365 And the Pro cruise control sensor is often combined with the gas handle sensor, and in this case, it's not recommended to turn it off, because it can lead to a complete loss of control of the accelerator.
How to Check if Cruise Control Is Truly Disabled
After you have done any of these things, you need to make sure that the function is deactivated.
- Accelerate to a speed of 10-15 km / h (the threshold of the cruise control on most models).
- Hold the gas handle in one position for more than 8 seconds.
- If the scooter does not record the speed (the gas handle remains mobile, the speed is not supported automatically) - cruise control is turned off.
- Try to release the gas slightly: if the scooter begins to brake the engine, the function is turned off.
On scooters with a display (for example, Pro 2 or 4 Pro) when activating cruise control, the indicator usually lights up. CRUISE pin β». If this indicator does not appear after disconnection, everything is done correctly.
π‘
If the scooter is unstable after the shutdown (twitches, spontaneously brakes), then other settings were affected. In this case, reset to factory parameters (mode 3).
Frequent problems and their solutions
Sometimes, when you try to disable cruise control, you get into trouble, and let's look at the typical situations and how to fix them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Cruise control is not shut down via Mi Home | An outdated version of the application or firmware | Update Mi Home and Scooter Firmware |
| After the combination of buttons, the scooter does not respond | Incorrect sequence or old model | Repeat the procedure or use resetting settings |
| The scooter spontaneously accelerates after disconnection | Controller Failure or Damaged Gas Sensor | Perform a reset or contact the service |
| There's a bug on the display. E05 or E07 | Problems with the gas handle sensor | Check the sensor connection or reset the settings |
| Cruise control is off, but speed is still fixed. | Brush firmware with a bug or hardware defect | Return to the stock firmware or contact the service |
If none of the methods worked, it may be a hardware fault of the controller or sensors, in which case we recommend contacting an authorized Xiaomi service center or a proven scooter repairman.
