Do Not Disturb (DND) on Xiaomi smartphones is a useful feature for blocking notifications and calls at uncomfortable times. But sometimes it works inappropriately: skipping important messages, not hearing an alarm or missing work calls. In this article, we will discuss all ways to turn off Do Not Disturb mode on Redmi, POCO, Black Shark and other lines with the MIUI shell (versions 12, 13, 14).
Xiaomi has a few ways to manage DND mode: through the notification panel, system settings, or even a voice assistant, and we'll look at each method with firmware nuances in mind, and we'll also talk about how to set exceptions for important contacts or applications to keep critical notifications from missing, and if the mode is stuck and not turned off, at the end of this article you'll find a solution to this problem.
1. Quick shutdown via notification panel
The easiest way to turn off Do Not Disturb is to use the notification curtain, which works on all Xiaomi models (from the Redmi Note 10 to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra) and does not require a deep knowledge of settings.
Instructions:
- 📱 Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- 🔍 Find the “Do Not Disturb” icon** (usually a crossed bell or crescent).
- 🔘 If you tap it once, it'll shut down. If it's illuminated, it's a sign. DND active.
💡
On some models (e.g. POCO F5), the icon may be hidden under the “More” button (three dots) in the notification bar.
If the icon is not on the main screen of the curtain:
- Deploy the notification bar in its entirety (swipe twice).
- Click on the Edit icon** (pencil or three dots).
- Find Do Not Disturb in the list and drag it to the active area.
💡
Disabling through the notification panel resets all temporary DND mode rules (e.g., on schedule).
2. Disconnection in system settings
If the quick way didn’t work or you need to set exceptions, go to the settings menu. This method is suitable for MIUI 12/13/14 and all current Xiaomi models.
Path to the menu:
- Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
- Choose Not to Disturb.
- Transfer the slider to the "Off" position (gray).
You can also use the same menu:
- ⏰ Set up a schedule for automatic on/off.
- 📵 Set exceptions for calls (e.g., allow calls from selected contacts).
- 🔔 Allow replays of calls (if someone calls twice within 3 minutes, the call will pass).
- 📱 Keep alarm clocks and media active.
What if the “Do Not Disturb” item is not in the settings?
3. Control of the mode through voice assistant
Owners of Xiaomi smartphones with Google Assistant or XiaoAI can turn off Do Not Disturb with their voice, which is convenient if the phone is lying far away or the screen is locked.
Voice commands:
- 🎤 «OK, Google, turn off the Do Not Disturb mode (for Google Assistant).
- 🎤 «Xiaoai, turn off Do Not Disturb (for XiaoAI on Chinese firmware).
Important:
⚠️ Attention: Voice commands only work when you're connected to the Internet and the microphone is on. A2) XiaoAI can be disabled by default – check in Settings → Annexes → Application management → XiaoAI.
4. Disconnection through Driver or Sleep modes
On Xiaomi, the Do Not Disturb mode** can automatically be enabled along with other features, such as:
- 🚗 Driver Mode (blocks notifications while driving).
- 😴 Sleep mode (includes on the schedule for the night).
