Automatic text correction on Xiaomi smartphones is often a source of irritation: the system stubbornly replaces correctly written words with βcorrectβ in its opinion options, ignores jargon or professional terms, and sometimes even spoils the meaning of messages. This is especially noticeable in instant messengers, social networks and when working with foreign languages. Unlike iOS or βpureβ Android, the MIUI shell hides auto-correction settings deep in the menu, and in some versions makes them completely inaccessible through the standard interface.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can disable autocorrect, from basic keyboard settings to hidden developer settings to alternative solutions. The instructions are relevant for Redmi, POCO, Mi and Black Shark devices on MIUI 12β14 and Android 10β14. If youβre tired of fighting the system to write the way you want, this guide is for you.
1. Standard disabling auto-correct in keyboard settings
To start with, the most obvious method is through the Gboard (Google) or Mi Keyboard (Xiaomi) menu, which works on most devices, but may vary depending on the firmware version.
For Gboard (if it is set by default):
- Open any text box (such as WhatsApp or Notes).
- Touch the badge. βοΈ (gear) on the keyboard to go to its settings.
- Select Text Correction β Auto Correction.
- Move the slider to the off position.
For the Mi Keyboard (Xiaomi's native keyboard):
- π± Go to Settings. β Additional settings β Language and input β Current Keyboard (Mi Keyboard).
- π Find the Text Input section β Automatic correction.
- β Turn off Auto Replacement, Automatic Punctuation, and Word Prediction options.
β οΈ Note: On some models (e.g, POCO X3 Pro or Redmi Note 11 with MIUI (13) the item βAuto-correctionβ may not be on the menu, in which case proceed to the next section.
2. Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the auto-correct is on but the options are inactive (shaded in gray), the problem may be a keyboard configuration failure, in which case resetting the keyboard settings will help:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the Mi Keyboard or Gboard (depending on the keyboard used).
- Go to the Warehouse. β Clear the data.
- Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
Once you reboot, the keyboard will go back to factory settings, and you can reconfigure the auto-correct. Importantly, this method will also remove the saved words from the user's dictionary!

If after reset auto-correct again activated itself - check whether the synchronization of the keyboard settings with the Google or Mi Account is enabled.
3. Disconnection through the developer parameters
On some MIUI firmware (especially POCO and Black Shark), the autocorrect settings are hidden behind the developer mode.
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. 7 times click on the MIUI Version until the notification βYou are a developerβ appears.

On some models (such as the Xiaomi 12T or Redmi K50), this option may be called Force disable text correction and require manual command input via ADB.

Step-by-step:
- Install ADB Tools on your PC.
- Enable USB debugging on your smartphone (Developer Options β USB debugging).
- Connect your phone to your computer and execute the command in the terminal: adb shell settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0

- Go to Settings β Language and Enter β Current Keyboard.
- Activate the new keyboard and set it by default.
- In the keyboard settings, turn off all auto-correct options.

6. Features for different versions of MIUI
MIUI firmware is regularly updated, and the location of auto-correct settings may change, and here are the key differences for popular versions:
- π MIUI 12: Autocorrect settings hidden in Settings β Additionally. β Language and input β Mi keyboard β Text input. The option may be called Intelligent input.

On MIUI 14 (HyperOS), the default auto-fix is tied to Xiaomi's cloud service. To turn it off completely, further deactivate the option of Cloud dictionary sync in the keyboard settings.
7. Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after auto-correction is disabled, users experience side effects.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-correct is activated after restarting | Sync with Mi/Google account | Turn off keyboard synchronization in account settings |
| Keyboard gestures don't work. | Conflict with disabled autocorrection | Reset the keyboard settings or reinstall it |

| The keyboard brakes after turning off autocorrection | Accumulated cache or errors in the dictionary | Clear keyboard data in Settings β Applications |
If the problem persists, try rolling back the keyboard update via Google Play (for Gboard) or installing an older version. APK-Mi Keyboard file from APKMirror.
