Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC β One of the most popular smartphones of 2020, even though itβs not immune to the typical Android problem: duplicate contacts that appear after syncing with multiple accounts (Google, MI, SIM-card), import from backups or malfunctions MIUI. If your phone is flooded with the same records with different numbers or mail β this article will help to combine them manually or automatically, without losing data.
We'll look at all the working methods, from standard MIUI 12/13/14 tools to hidden functions of the Contacts app, and we'll focus on the problem of invisible duplicates that don't appear in the main list but take up space in memory, and we'll also look at how to avoid duplicates after the combination.
Here we go! If you have a Poco X3 NFC on fresh firmware, most of the ways will work without additional apps. Older versions of MIUI (below 12.5) will require you to update system applications through Settings β About Phone β Update MIUI.
1. Connecting contacts through the standard βContactsβ application
The easiest way is to use the built-in MIUI tools. These are available on all firmware versions for the Poco X3 NFC, but the interface may vary slightly depending on the shell (12, 13 or 14).
Open the Contacts app (an icon with a human silhouette) and follow the following steps:
- π± Click on three dots in the upper right corner β Select Contact Management.
- π In the menu that opens, tap to Combine Contacts (or Find Doubles in the MIUI 14).
- β The system will automatically scan all the records and suggest options for combining. Opposite each take will be a "Unite" button.
- π Once confirmed, the data will merge into one record and the original sources (Google, SIM, MI) tagged.
Important: If the Connect contacts button is inactive or not, check if sync is enabled in Settings β Accounts. Without it, the system will not see all data sources.

β οΈ Note: If you have custom firmware installed (e.g. Pixel Experience or LineageOS), the standard Contacts app may not support the unification function.
2. Automatic association through Google Contacts
If the duplicates appear after syncing with a Google account, the easiest way to fix this is through the web version of the service, which works even if the phone is disabled sync - the main thing is that the contacts are previously saved to Google.
Go to contacts.google.com from your Poco X3 NFC or computer and do:
- In the left menu, select Doubles (or Combine and Fix β Find Doubles).
- Google will show you all the duplicate entries. Click Combine opposite each set of takes.
- For mass unification, use the "Unite All" button (available if there are 10+ takes).
- After completion, wait for the synchronization (can take up to 10 minutes) and check the result on the phone.
| Method | Advantages | Deficiencies |
|---|---|---|
| Through the Contacts app | It does not require the internet, it works offline. | You may not find all the duplicates, especially from different accounts. |
| Through Google Contacts | Finds duplicates in all fields (phone, email, address), supports the mass association | Requires stable Internet, does not work with local contacts (only synchronized) |
| Through Mi Account | Combines the take from Xiaomi Cloud, keeps the history of changes | It only works for contacts saved in the MI-account |
Tip: If you've merged with Google to make some contacts disappear on your phone, check the filters in the Contacts app, and maybe the Google account's posting is disabled.
- Open Contacts β Three Points β Display Settings.
- Make sure all sources (Google, Phone, SIM) are enabled.
π‘
Before mass association, export contacts to file VCF (Settings β Exports. This will help restore data if something goes wrong.
3.Use MI Cloud to combine duplicates
Xiaomi offers its own cloud solution, MI Cloud, which can also search and combine duplicates, and this method is useful if you are actively using the Mi Account ecosystem (for example, for backup).
Instructions:
- Open Settings β Mi Account and make sure that the synchronization of contacts is enabled.
- Go to i.mi.com and log in.
- Select the Contact section β Management β Find the takes.
- The system will offer options for integration. Confirm the changes.
- Wait for sync (can take up to 5 minutes) and check the result on the Poco X3 NFC.
The feature is that MI Cloud sometimes creates hidden takes that are not visible in the main list, but take up space.
- In the Contacts app, click on three points β Settings β Import/Export.
- Export all contacts to the.vcf file.
- Open a file on your computer (for example, via Excel or Notepad++) and look for repeating numbers or names.
β οΈ Attention: If you are using MI Cloud and Google Contacts simultaneously, combining in one service can create duplicates in another. We recommend choosing one main source (for example, Google) and disabling synchronization of contacts in Mi Account (Settings for the Mi Account). β Mi Account β Synchronization β Contacts).

4. Manual association through contact editing
If the automatic methods didn't work or you want to manually control the process, you can combine the takes directly when editing a record, which is suitable for spot editing when there are few takes (up to 20-30 pieces).
How to do this:
- Open the Contacts app and find the duplicate entry.
- Slip on it β click Edit (pencil icon).
- Scroll down and find the Linked Contacts (or Combine with) block.
- Click Add Link and select the second duplicate contact from the list.
- Confirm the combination. The data from both records will merge, and the originals will remain in history.
Advantage: You can choose which fields to save (e.g., leave a number from one record and an email from another) and this is useful if the duplicates contain different relevant information.
Disadvantage: With a lot of takes, the process will take a long time. To speed up, use the name search (the magnifying glass icon in the Contacts app) and source filters (Google, SIM, Phone).

5. Contacts Association Apps: TOP-3 for Xiaomi
If the built-in MIUI tools fail, third-party apps will come to the rescue, and we tested dozens of programs and selected the three most reliable ones for the Poco X3 NFC:
- π Simpler Merge is a free app with a simple interface, finds duplicates by number, name and email, supports mass unification, plus: works without registration. Minus: advertising in the free version.
- π Contacts Optimizer is an advanced tool with the function of cleaning out irrelevant contacts (for example, without phone numbers). Supports backup before changes. Plus: finds invisible duplicates.
- π Cleanup: Duplicate Contacts is a doubles analytics app (showing how much memory they take up), can combine records from different accounts, plus: integration with Google Drive for backups.
If you don't have enough takes (up to 50), Simpler Merge will suffice. For deep cleaning (100+ takes), it's better to use Contacts Optimizer with a pre-backup.
Important: Before using third-party applications:
- Create a backup of contacts (Settings β Import / Export β Export to file).
- Check the appβs permissions: it should only request access to contacts and storage (not SMS, calls, or location).
- Once combined, restart your phone to sync changes with MIUI.
π‘
The app side can find up to 30% more duplicates than the built-in MIUI tools, especially if contacts are stored in different accounts (Google, MI, SIM, WhatsApp).
6 How to prevent the appearance of doubles in the future
Connecting contacts is good, but it's even better to prevent them from happening. Here are the proven ways to do this for the Poco X3 NFC:
- π Turn off unnecessary synchronization: Go to Settings β Accounts and keep syncing for only one primary account (like Google) enabled, disable it for Mi Account, Facebook, WhatsApp, and other services that create copies of contacts.
- π± Use one default source: In the Contacts app, go to Settings β Save new contacts to and select one account (e.g. Google) to prevent new records from being shared across multiple sources.
- π Clean the cache regularly: Once a month, clear the cache of the Contacts app (Settings) β Annexes β Contacts β Memory. β Clear cache. This helps to avoid synchronization failures.
- π€ Export contacts before changing firmware: When updating MIUI or reset your phone always backup contacts in.vcf format. This will allow you to restore them without taking takes.
Hidden problem: On the Poco X3 NFC, doubles often appear after the MIUI update due to Mi Cloud Sync failures.
- Before updating, turn off automatic synchronization (Settings β Accounts β Autosynchronization of data).
- Once you install the new version of MIUI, manually start syncing for each account individually.
β οΈ Note: If you use Dual Apps (Cloning Messengers) on Poco X3 NFC, Each clone creates a separate contact database, which can lead to duplication of records. To avoid problems, turn off contact synchronization for cloned applications (Settings for cloned applications). β Dual Apps β Synchronization settings).
7. Restore remote contacts after unification
Sometimes when you combine takes, you lose important data, like old phone numbers or addresses. If you do, don't panic: you have a number of ways to get it back.
Method 1: Recover from Google Contacts
Google stores a contact history for 30 days to roll back the association:
- Go to contacts.google.com.
- In the left menu, select Cancel Changes.
- Specify the date on which you need to return the contacts (before the merger).
- Confirm recovery. Changes sync with the phone for 5-10 minutes.
Method 2: Restore from local backup
If you have backup contacts in.vcf format:
- Copy the file to your phone (for example, in the Downloads folder).
- Open the Contacts app β Settings β Import/Export β Import from the file.
- Select the.vcf file and confirm the import. Duplicate records can be recombined.
Method 3: Recovery through MI Cloud
If the contacts are synchronized with the Mi Account:
- Go to i.mi.com β Contacts β Cart.
- Select deleted records and click Restore.
- Update your phoneβs contact list (pull the list down for an update).
Important: Local contacts (only saved on your phone, without synchronization) are harder to recover. If you delete them, try programs like DiskDigger or GT Recovery, but the odds depend on how long it has been since you deleted them.
