Owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones often face a situation where important images suddenly disappear from the standard gallery, usually due to the accidental activation of the function of hiding or moving files to a secure area of the system.

There's another nuance about the "Recently Deleted" album: Files that get there are permanently deleted after 30 days, but until then they may not be visible in the main tabs if date filtering is enabled.

Search and display hidden files through Explorer

Restoring access to a closed folder

Using cloud synchronization Mi Cloud

Importantly, if you've turned on the "Free Space" feature, the original photos are deleted from your phone and stored only in the cloud, and you only have thumbnails in the gallery, and to make the album fully visible and accessible offline, you have to download the originals back.

Sync only works when the device is connected to Wi-Fi (unless you have a mobile connection selected).If the album appears in the cloud but does not load on the phone, check the free space and network stability.
Third-party applications and file managers
If the standard Xiaomi gallery doesn't show the album, try using a third-party file manager like Total Commander or Files by Google.They see the folder structure differently and can detect lost directories.
Find a DCIM or Pictures folder at the root of the internal memory, and if you see a folder with the right name but it's empty or not readable, it may be a.nomedia file, which is a hidden file that prevents the system from scanning the folder and showing its contents in the gallery.
To fix this, turn on the hidden files in the Explorer settings (usually the gear icon or menu). Find the.nomedia file inside the problem folder and delete it. Once the phone is restarted, the album should appear.
Third-party galleries like Google Photos or Simple Gallery may have their own hideout settings, too. Check the Recycle Bin and Archives in these apps — maybe the photos were hidden in them, not in the system.
Using root rights opens up access to the gallery configuration system files, but for the average user, it is risky. 99% of the time, the problem is solved by deleting the.nomedia file or setting up visibility in a standard Explorer.
Prevention of Data and Album Loss
To prevent the situation with invisible albums from happening again, it is recommended to check your privacy settings regularly. You should not rely on only one method of storage. Duplicating important images to external media or to alternative clouds (Google Drive, Yandex.Disk) will save your memories.
Periodically back up your system settings, which will allow you to quickly restore the gallery and conductor in the event of a software failure after an update, and backup is the only guarantee of data security in the digital age.
Remember or write down the password from the Closed Folder, which, unlike the Mi Account password, is virtually impossible to recover with technical support, and losing that code is equivalent to losing the files themselves.
