Buying a Xiaomi smartphone abroad or buying a used device often comes with the unpleasant surprise of not having Russian on the system. Even if the phone supports MIUI Global, vendors sometimes install firmware for local markets (for example, India ROM or China ROM), where Russian is absent by default. Note: if your Xiaomi is purchased from an official Russian store (or is intended for the CIS market), the Russian language is already pre-installed. 1. Check the current version of MIUI and the firmware region
Before you change the language, make sure your firmware supports Russian at all.
- Open the Settings. → The phone.
- Find the line MIUI version, which looks like MIUI Global 14.0.5 or MIUI China 15.1.2.
- Note the word before the version: Global, China, India, EEA (Europe), etc.
Key point: Russian is guaranteed only in Global and EEA firmware. China ROM does not have it by default, and India ROM may be missing or incomplete (for example, without localizing system applications). If you have China ROM, skip this section and go to the way you change firmware.
Also check the region of the device:

- 🌍 If it says China, India or another country without Russian, that explains the lack of language.

2. Standard method of changing the language (if Russian is on the list)
If your firmware supports Russian, but it is not selected by default, follow the following steps:
- Open the settings (cog icon).
- Scroll down and select Additional Settings (or Additional Settings in English).
- Slip on Language and Input (Language and Input).
- Click on the first item - Language.
- Find Russian (or Russian) and select it.

3. Shifting firmware to Global/EEA (if there is no Russian)
If you don't have Russian in your settings and your firmware is China ROM or India ROM, you'll need to reflash your device, which is the only officially supported way to add Russian without root rights and the risk of blocking your Mi Account.

- Unlock the bootloader (if not unlocked): Connect your phone to your PC and launch the Mi Unlock Tool. Sign in with the same Mi Account as your phone. Follow the program instructions (it may take 7-15 days for new accounts to be added).
Put your phone on.
- Download the Mi Flash Tool for Windows.
- Unpack the downloaded firmware in a folder without Cyrillic symbols.
- Launch Mi Flash, select a firmware folder and connect your phone in Fastboot mode (clip Volume Down + Power).
- Press Refresh, then Flash and wait for the end (5-10 minutes).
Limitations of the method:
