Owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones often face a situation where the Google Assistant, popularly known as “OK Google”, is not working correctly or not at all activated, this is especially true for devices released for the Chinese market, or after resetting to factory settings. Voice control significantly speeds up interaction with the gadget, allowing you to launch applications, send messages and search without touching the screen.
The problem is not the hardware of the phone, but the specific configurations of the MIUI or HyperOS shell that may limit the background performance of Google services, as well as the region selected when you first turn on the device and the version of the installed Google application. To ensure that voice search works consistently, you need to perform a number of sequential actions, which we will discuss in detail in this article.

Language settings and device region
One of the common reasons why OK, Google doesn't work is that the language settings don't work. The assistant needs to know what language you're speaking, and this setting should match in several places. Go to Settings → System → Language and input and make sure that the primary language of the system is Russian (or English).
Then go back to the settings of the Google app itself (via profile). In the Languages section, check that Russian is added and the "Major" tick is ticked. If Russian is not on the list, add it. It is important that the order of the languages in the system and in the Google app is the same.
Also, pay attention to the region. In the phone settings (Settings → Additional settings → Region), you should choose “Russia” or another country where the Russian language is officially supported by Google Assistant. Selecting the region “China” or “India” can block voice search functions for Russian-speaking users.

Solving problems with microphone and headset
Sometimes the problem is not the software, but the hardware conflict. If OK Google stopped responding after connecting a Bluetooth headset or headphones, it may be trying to use their microphone, which is currently unavailable or closed.

Besides the classic phrase “OK, Google,” there are other ways to run the assistant that can work more stable on some Xiaomi models, such as setting activation by pressing the power button. Go to Settings → Additional → Buttons → Starting Google Assistant and turn on the option.
Now, a long press of the power button will trigger the voice assistant, which often works faster and more reliably than waiting for a hot phrase, especially in noisy places, and you can also swipe from the corner of the screen if this feature is supported by your version of the launcher.
If the standard phrase "OK, Google" doesn't work, try changing it in the voice match settings. Sometimes it helps to create a new voice model with a different trigger phrase, although in the Russian-speaking segment the choice is limited. In some cases, cleaning the cache of the Google app through the settings menu helps.
Remember, OK Google requires a stable Internet connection to work. Voice is processed on Google servers, so without a network, the phone won't be able to recognize the command. Check your mobile data settings and make sure that there's no traffic limit for the Google app.
