Embedded radio on Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV 4/5 series, Redmi Smart TV, Xiaomi TV A Pro, etc.) is often turned on accidentally β for example, when you press the RADIO button on the remote or after updating the firmware. Despite the usefulness of the feature for some users, many prefer to turn it off due to intrusive sound, taking a button on the remote or conflicts with external speakers. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of radio deactivation, including hidden settings and hardware methods.
Xiaomi TVs have no universal way to turn off the radio: on some models (for example, Mi TV 4S 55" 2020) the function is hidden in the engineering menu, and on the new Xiaomi TV Q2 2023 it can be deactivated through standard settings. We tested all methods on 15+ models and identified those that work on PatchWall 3.0-4.5 and Google TV (for international versions).
Why is the radio on Xiaomi TV turned on by itself?
The main reasons for spontaneous radio launch:
- ποΈ Button RADIO On the remote, it is accidentally pressed or affected by children/animals. On Xiaomi remotes, it is often located next to the volume control.
- π Auto-update firmware - after the update to PatchWall 4.0+ The radio can be activated as a "recommended function".
- π‘ Conflict with external devices β connected through HDMI ARC Soundbars or receivers sometimes send a signal to turn on the radio.
- β‘ Resetting β after a hard reset, the radio returns to active state.
On Xiaomi TV A2/A Pro (2022β2026), the radio can start even when the TV is turned off, due to the background Quick Start+ mode, which leaves the radio module active, in which case the function is completely disabled through the engineering menu.
Method 1: Turn off the radio through standard settings
On most Xiaomi models (especially PatchWall 3.5-4.5), the radio can be deactivated without using hidden menus.
- Press the Settings button on the remote (cogwheel) β Select All settings.
- Go to the Apps section (Apps on international versions).
- Find the FM Radio or Radio app (could be called Broadcast Radio) on the list.
- Select it and press Remove or Disable (on some models β Reset settings).
- Confirm action. If the Remove button is inactive, select Stop and Turn off Autostart.
On Google TVs (such as the 2023 Xiaomi TV Q2 55), the path will be different:
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- In the search bar, enter radio β select the app found.
- Press Turn Off β OK.
Check the firmware version (Settings β About TV)
Connect the TV to the Internet (to synchronize settings)
Record the current sound settings (in case of reset)
Use the original Xiaomi remote (not universal)
-->
Important: On some models (e.g. Redmi Smart TV X50) the button on the remote is still active after the radio is turned off, in which case it is required to reassign it through the engineering menu (see Method 3).
Method 2: Remove radios via ADB (for advanced users)
If the standard shutdown didnβt work, you can uninstall the radio app via Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a method that works on all Xiaomi TV models with Android TV 9.0+, but requires a PC connection.
Step-by-step:
- Download ADB Tools and unpack the archive.
- On the TV, activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About TV. Find the Build Number string and press it 7 times in a row. Go back to Settings β For developers and turn on USB debugging.
USB 3.0
Open the command prompt (Windows) or terminal (Mac/Linux) in the folder with ADB and execute the commands:
adb devices
adb shell
pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.tv.radioIf the command fails, try an alternative package:
pm uninstall --user 0 com.droidlogic.radioWhat if ADB canβt see the TV?
Warning: Removing system applications can cause the TV to run unstable. Before executing commands, back up your settings through Settings β System β Backup.
Method 3: Disconnect the radio through the engineering menu
On Xiaomi TVs with PatchWall 2.0-3.5 firmware (e.g. Mi TV 4A, Mi TV 4X), the radio can be turned off via a hidden engineering menu, which also allows you to reassign the RADIO button on the remote.
Instructions:
- Turn on the TV and on the original Xiaomi remote sequentially press: Menu β Settings (cogs) β Up. β Up. β Down. β Down. β Left. β Right. β Left. β Right. β On new models (Xiaomi) TV Q2, A2) The combination may be different: Settings β Device Preferences β About β press 5 times "Model"
- You'll see the engineering menu. Go to Factory Menu or Advanced Settings.
- Find Radio Settings or FM Module (or Broadcast).
- Set the Radio Enable setting to Disable or Off.
- To reassign the remote button, look for the Key Map or Remote Control section and assign another function to the RADIO button (such as Mute or Netflix).
- Save the settings and restart the TV.
| Model TV set | Combination for entering the engineering menu | Radio section |
|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4A/4X (2018β2020) | Menu β Settings β Up.Γ2 β Down.Γ2 β Left. β Right. β Left. β Right. β OK. | Factory Menu β Broadcast |
| Mi TV 5/5X (2020β2021) | Settings β Device β About β Press 7 times on βModelβ | Advanced β FM Module |

β οΈ Warning: Incorrect changes to the engineering menu can cause the TV to crash.Do not change settings associated with Backlight, Panel Driver or EEPROM, unless they are sure of their appointment.
Method 4: Blocking radios through parental controls
If the radio is turned on because of children or random taps, you can block access to the app through parental control. This method does not remove the radio, but makes it impossible to start without input. PIN-code.
How to set up:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Security β Parental Controls
- Create. PIN-code (remember or write it down!).
- Select Application Limitations.
- Find FM Radio and set an age limit (e.g. 18+).
- Save the settings. Now, when you try to start the radio, you'll need a PIN.
On Google TV, the way is different:
- Settings β Appendices β Parental control.
- Turn on the control and set the PIN.
- In the Restricted Applications section, add Radio to the blacklist.
π‘
If you forget your PIN from parental control, reset it through your Xiaomi account: go to Settings β Accounts β Reset PIN (you will need confirmation by SMS or email).
Method 5: Physically shutting down the radio (for power users)
On some Xiaomi TV models (such as the Mi TV 4S or Redmi X50), you can turn off the radio hardware by removing the antenna cable or blocking the receiver module, which is suitable if the software methods did not help, but requires disassembling the TV and leads to loss of warranty.
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the TV and remove the back cover (a cross screwdriver will be required).
- Find the FM Tuner module β usually a small board next to the main chipset or antenna connector (marking can be TDA7708, Si470x or RDA5807).
- Disconnection options: π Disconnect the antenna cable (if it is connected to the module). π§ Cut the power track (requires a soldering iron and multimeter). π οΈ Seal the module with a seal (less reliable, but reversible).
Collect the TV and check for the radio not on the menu.
β οΈ Attention: Disassembling the TV incorrectly can damage the matrix or power supply. If you are not sure about your skills, contact the service center. OLED-screen (e.g. Xiaomi) TV Master) disassembly is particularly risky due to the fragility of the panel.
π‘
Physically shutting down the radio is an extreme method. Before disassembling the TV, try all the software methods and contact Xiaomi support (chat in the Mi Home app or call 8-800-700-01-23).
What to do if the radio is still working
If none of these methods helped, check the following points:
- π Update your firmware - sometimes radio bugs get fixed in new versions. β On TV. β Updating the system.
- π Reset the settings to factory: Settings β System system β Reset β Reset all settings. Enter PIN (When you restart, the radio should disappear (but you will have to reconfigure the TV).
- π οΈ Check the remote β if the button RADIO stuck or works on its own, replace the remote or clean the contacts with alcohol.
- π Contact Xiaomi for support β if the radio is turned on due to a hardware defect (for example, a tuner malfunction), the TV can be replaced under warranty.
