Xiaomi’s lock screen is the first thing you see when you turn on a smartphone, and its design can significantly affect the overall experience of the device. Many users want to personalize this element, but standard MIUI settings do not always allow you to flexibly change the color of the font on a locked screen. It’s important to understand that customization options depend on the firmware version (MIUI 14, MIUI 15 or HyperOS) and the smartphone model. Why you can’t just change the color of the font in the settings
At first glance, it seems strange that Xiaomi does not add a simple option to change the color of text on the lock screen, the reason is the MIUI architecture: the system uses a dynamic theme, where the font color is tied to the wallpaper or the chosen color scheme.
- 🔹 The color of the text automatically adjusts to the background (for example, on dark wallpaper, the font becomes white, on light – black).
- 🔹 Most of the time. MIUI font color is rigidly fixed in system files.
- 🔹 Change of color through standard settings is possible only indirectly - by changing the theme or wallpaper.
There are workarounds, however, such as MIUI 15’s Color Palette feature, which allows you to adjust the shades of system elements a little, and some devices (such as Xiaomi 13T) have a developer mode with advanced interface settings.
⚠️ Note: On HyperOS devices (e.g. Xiaomi 14 Ultra), the lock screen logic has changed.
Method 1: Change color through theme change
The safest and easiest method is to use built-in MIUI themes, many of which offer unique color schemes, including the font on the lock screen.
- Open the Themes app (icon with brush).
- Go to the For Me or Recommended section.
- Select a theme marked Changes the lock screen (usually such themes have a lock icon in the preview).
- Click Apply and wait for the installation to be completed.
Some themes (such as AMOLED Black or Neon Glow) offer contrasting font colors that are clearly visible against any background, and if you don't like the design of the theme as a whole, but the font is fine, you can return the standard wallpaper after application.

If you don't like the new theme, you can return the standard theme in the same Topic app by selecting Default, but the font color on the lock screen will return to the original.
Method 2: Using a color palette (MIUI 15 and later)
MIUI 15 and HyperOS have a color palette feature that allows you to fine-tune the shades of system elements, which does not give you complete freedom, but can slightly change the color of the font on the lock screen.
- Open the settings → Screen → Color palette.
- Activate the switch Use the color palette.
- Choose one of the suggested shades or create your own by moving the sliders.
- Click Apply and restart the device.
This method only works on dynamic color-enabled devices (e.g., Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi K60 Pro). On budget models (Poco X5, Redmi 12), the option may be missing or affect only icons, not the font.
The color palette is usually weak, and the typeface can get a little darker or lighter, but you can't change the color drastically, but it's completely safe and doesn't require administrator rights.

Method 3: Editing system files (for advanced)
If you don't like half-measures, you can manually change the font color by editing system files. This method requires an unlocked bootloader and root rights, and is only suitable for power users. We'll describe the process for MIUI 14, but the steps may differ on other versions.
You'll need:
- 📱 Xiaomi smartphone with unlocked bootloader.
- 🔧 Installed by Magisk (to obtain root rights).
- 💻 Computer with ADB and the Hex editor (e.g. HxD).
- 📂 Backup of the file framework-miui-res.apk (situated /system/framework/).
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC and copy the framework-miui-res.apk file to your computer.
- Open it in the HxD editor and find the line lockscreen_text_color (Use a search by hex code).
- Replace the color value (usually FFFFFFFF for white or FF000000 for black) with the desired hex code (e.g. FFF44336 for red).
- Save the file, return it back to /system/framework/ with ADB and restart the device.

What if the phone doesn’t turn on after editing files?
This method gives you complete control over font color, but requires a deep technical knowledge. If you've never worked with ADB or hex editors, you'd better use the other methods in this article.
Method 4: Install a custom launcher with lock support
Some third-party launchers (such as Nova Launcher or Lawnchair) allow you to adjust the lock screen, including font color.
- 🔓 Set the launcher as a default launcher.
- 🔧 Activate Allow Changes to the Lock Screen (not available on all devices).
- 🎨 Use a compatible theme or plugin (for example, KLWP For Nova Launcher).
Example of settings through Nova Launcher:
- Install Nova Launcher and Nova Lockscreen Plugin from Google Play.
- Open the launcher settings and go to Lockscreen → Text Color.
- Select a color from the palette or enter a hex code.
- Apply the changes and restart the device.
This method has limitations:

- ❌ On some models (Poco) F5, Redmi Note 12: The plugin is not activated.

Before installing a custom launcher, check its compatibility with your Xiaomi model on the XDA Developers forum or in telegram chats over MIUI. Some launchers (such as Microsoft Launcher) do not support lock screen settings at all.
Method 5: Using Magisk modules for customization
If you have root rights, you can install special modules for Magisk that extend the options for setting the lock screen.

Installation instructions:
- Download a module (e.g. MIUI Lockscreen Customizer) in.zip format.
- Open Magisk Manager and go to Modules → Install from Storage.
- Select the downloaded file and wait for the installation.
- Reset the device.
- After the reboot, open the module settings (usually a new section appears in Settings → Additional).
Advantages of this method:
- ✅ Complete control over color, size and font style.
- ✅ Possibility to customize animations and additional elements (date, notifications).
- ✅ Compatible with most devices on MIUI 12–15.
⚠️ Note: Modules for Magisk may conflict with updates MIUI. Once the system update is installed, the module may stop working and the lock screen may not display correctly. Always check that the module is compatible with your firmware version.
