Why Xiaomi widgets donβt always scale?
Widgets on Xiaomi smartphones running MIUI are mini-programs that display current information directly on the desktop: weather, calendar, notes or smart home management. However, not all users know that most widgets can be sized to adapt to their needs. The problem is that the zoom function depends on the version of the shell, the model of the device and even the type of widget itself.
For example, on the Redmi Note 12 with MIUI 14, you can stretch the weather widget to the full screen, and on the Poco X5 with the same firmware, only up to a certain limit. In some cases, the option is hidden in deep settings, and sometimes it simply does not exist for a particular element. Today, we will analyze all the working methods, including the hidden MIUI functions for flexible widget customization that are not described in the official documentation.
It's important to understand that not all widgets support resizing. For example, system elements like Google Search or Yandex.Weather often have fixed dimensions, whereas standard Xiaomi widgets (calendar, watch, notes) are usually flexible. If you try to stretch the widget but nothing happens, it's probably a limitation of the app itself, not the system.
Method 1: Standard size change through retention
The simplest and most versatile method works on most Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices with MIUI 12-15, and is suitable for standard widgets (weather, calendar, watches) and some third-party widgets, if their developers have provided such a possibility.
Instructions:
- Press and hold your finger on the widget you want to change until the action menu appears.
- Release your finger - around the widget should appear a frame with markers (squares at the corners).
- Pull on any marker to stretch the widget in the right direction. On some models (such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro), the markers only appear after a second touch.
- When you have reached the desired size, touch the empty space on the screen to record the changes.
β οΈ Note: If the markers don't appear, it means that the widget doesn't support resizing. Try another way or check if the feature is locked in the launcher settings.

There is a free space on the screen for stretching.

Method 2: Launcher settings for flexible widgets
On devices with MIUI 13 and later, a hidden option has been introduced to unlock additional widget settings, a technique that is especially useful if standard stretching doesnβt work or offers too few options.
To activate the advanced settings:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- In the search bar, enter the Launcher and select the MIUI Launcher system application.
- Click Storage β Memory Management β Clear the data (this will reset the launcher settings, but will not remove the widgets).
- Return to the desktop, clamp the empty space and select Home Screen Settings.
- Activate the option to Allow resize widgets (may be called Flexible widgets).
After that, try stretching the widget again β now additional markers should appear. This method does not work on all models, but it is tested on the Xiaomi 12T, Redmi K50 and Poco F4.

Method 3: Use of alternative launchers
If system methods fail, the solution will be to install a third-party launcher. For example, Nova Launcher or Hyperion Launcher offer advanced widget customization options, including:
- π Free scaling without restrictions MIUI.
- π¨ Transparency changes and widgets overlaying each other.
- π Accurate adjustment of indentations and alignment.
- π Fixing widgets from random change.
Instructions for Nova Launcher:
- Install Nova Launcher from Google Play.
- Assign it as the default launcher in the application settings.
- Add a widget to your desktop (clip the empty space β Widgets).
- Press the widget and select Change the size β a grid will appear where you can specify the width and height.
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi devices may lose system widgets (such as Smart Home or Mi Fitness Steps) after installing a third-party launcher. MIUI Launcher.

Method 4: ADB-commands to unlock hidden functions
For advanced users willing to work with ADB, there is a way to force widget size change to be enabled even where it is locked, a method that requires an unlocked bootloader and ADB drivers installed.
Instructions:
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and activate USB Debugging in Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (click 7 times, then go back to Additional Settings β For Developers).
- Open the command line on the PC and type:
adb shell settings put global development_settings_enabled 1
adb shell am start -n com.miui.home/.launcher.LauncherSettingsActivity- In the launcher settings that open, find the Widget Resizing option and activate it.
- Reset the device.
β οΈ Attention: Misuse of the right ADB This can cause system failures. Before executing commands, back up your data through Settings. β Additionally. β Backup and reset.

If so, ADB-commands widgets started to glittle, reset the launcher settings: go to Settings β Annexes β Application management β MIUI Launcher β Warehouse β Clear the data.
Compatibility table: what widgets can be scaled
Not all widgets on Xiaomi support size resizing, and here is a compatibility table for popular system and third-party widgets on MIUI 14 (relevant to most models from 2022-2026).
| Type of widget | Examples | Supports scaling? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Systemic (MIUI) | Weather, Calendar, Clock, Notes | β Yes. | You can stretch 2-4 times from the original size. |
| Smart home. | Mi Home, Device Management | β οΈ Partially. | Vertical stretching only (on Xiaomi 13 and newer). |
| Google widgets | Search Google, Google Calendar | β No. | The fixed size depends on Googleβs policy. |
| Third-party (social media) | VKontakte, Telegram, Twitter | β οΈ Depends on the app. | Telegram allows you to change the size, Vkontakte β no. |
| Playing | Game Turbo, FPS counter | β Yes. | Only on devices with Game Turbo 5.0+. |
If your widget isn't in the table, try stretching it in the standard way, and if you don't, it's probably a restriction from the app developer.
Problem Solving: The widget is not changed or reset
Sometimes, after a change in size, the widget is reset to its original appearance or disappears altogether from the screen, and here are the most common reasons and ways to eliminate them:
- π Launcher reset: If the widget is missing after the update MIUI, clear the data MIUI Launcher (see Method 2).
- π± Lack of memory: On weak devices (e.g. Redmi) 9A) widgets can be reset when there is a lack of RAM. Close background apps.
- π§ Firmware error: On some beta versions MIUI Widgets are bugging. Check the updates in Settings β The phone. β Updating the system.
- π« System Blocking: If the widget is linked to Mi Account (such as a Smart Home), try logging in.
If the problem persists, try:
- Remove the widget and add it again.
- Reset the device.
- Install an alternative launcher (see Method 3).

If the widget resets after the reboot, it's a sign of a failure in the launcher's cache.Solution: clear the cache and MIUI Launcher data in the application settings.
