Are you tired of the standard way to answer calls on your Xiaomi Redmi when you have to reach for the green button on the screen? Or want to simplify the process to save precious seconds? Changing the answer button is one of those small but useful tweaks that make using a smartphone more comfortable. In this article, we will examine all possible ways, from built-in MIUI features to third-party applications and hidden features that many people do not know about.
Itβs important to understand that Xiaomi updates its shell regularly and some menu items may move.Weβve taken into account the current versions of MIUI 14/15 (based on Android 13/14), but if you have older firmware, check for similar options. Also note that some Redmi models (such as the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ or Redmi K60) have additional gestures that are not available in the budget series.
1. Standard MIUI settings: change button position
The easiest way to do this is to swap the answer and reject buttons, which is useful for left-handed people or those who often press the wrong button in a hurry, and is available on most Xiaomi Redmi devices without installing any additional apps.
To change the location of the buttons:
- π± Open the Settings app (the gear icon on the home screen).
- π Go to the About Phone section. β Version. MIUI tap it 7 times to activate the developer mode (if not already activated).
- π Return to the main settings menu and select Additional settings β Special facilities β Call response settings.
- π Turn on the option to change the buttons of the answer and deviations.
If you have a MIUI 14/15, the path may be slightly different.

2.Use of gestures to answer a call
Xiaomi offers several built-in gestures that can replace standard buttons, such as answering a call by simply raising your phone to your ear or touching the screen twice, which save time and reduce the risk of accidental tapping.
You can activate gestures like this:
- Go to Settings β All settings β Gestures and movements.
- Select Call Answer (or Call Management in new versions).
- Turn on the options you need: π Raise to the ear β automatic response when holding the phone. π Double touch β answer with two fingers on the screen. π Turn the phone over - deflecting the call by flipping the screen down.
On Redmi Note 11/12 and later, an optional up/down swipe gesture is available to answer or reject, and it may require activation of the hidden menu via the engineering menu (more on this below).

Instructions for activating alternative buttons:
- Open the phone app and enter the code: ##4636##
- Go to the Usage statistics tab (or Phone Information).

β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi firmware has blocked the engineering menu. If the code doesn't work, try typing it through the EngineerMode app (available on Google Play!

4. Third-party applications for button customization
If the built-in MIUI features are limited, third-party apps will come to the rescue, allowing you not only to change the location of the buttons, but also to add new ways of responding - for example, through a widget on the lock screen or voice commands.
Top.-3 application:
- π² Answer Me! adds swipes, double tap and volume button response. runs on Xiaomi Redmi without root rights.
- ποΈ Button Mapper β allows you to reassign hardware buttons (for example, answer a call with a long press on the power button).
- π€ Tasker is an advanced automation tool that can be customized to answer a call by gesture, time of day, or even location.
Example of settings in Button Mapper:
- Download the application from Google Play and grant it the rights to Special Features.
- Select the Power button β Long press.
- In the action list, find Answer the call.
- Save the settings and test.
β οΈ Note: Some applications (such as Button Mapper) may conflict with system gestures MIUI. If after installation, standard functions stopped working - disable the application or reset the default settings in Settings β Annexes β Application management β Button Mapper β Warehouse β Clear the data.

If after installing a third-party application, the response buttons stopped working, try turning off battery optimization for it. β Annexes β Application management β [Title of the annex] β Optimizing the battery β No restrictions.
5. Set up a call response via Bixby or Google Assistant
If you use a voice assistant (Google Assistant or Bixby on some models), you can adjust the answer to the call with a voice command. This is convenient when your hands are busy or the phone is far away.
For Google Assistant:
- π£οΈ Say, βOK Google, answer the callβ or βAccept the call".
- π§ To activate the function, make sure that the assistant settings enable phone access: β Google β Services on the device β Assistant β Phone.
For Bixby (available on some Redmi models for the Korean market):
- π€ Press and hold the Bixby button (or say "Hi, Bixby").
- π Say: "Apply the call" or "Accept the incoming call".
Limitation: Voice response only works when the screen is unlocked (for security reasons), and the assistant may not work in noisy places or with a weak Internet connection.
π‘
Voice response is the safest way to do it while driving, but requires pre-setting access rights for the assistant.
6.Reset your phone settings if nothing helps
If after all the manipulations, the call response buttons are not working correctly (for example, they do not respond to presses or they are delayed), there may be a software failure, in which case resetting the phone to the factory settings will help.
How to reset your settings without losing data:
- Back up your contacts, photos and apps through Settings β About Phone β Backup.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Select Reset all settings (do not delete all data!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
If the problem persists, perform a full reset (with deletion of data), but note that this will delete all user files. MIUI.
β οΈ Note: On Redmi models with bootloader unlocked, resetting your settings may result in your device being locked.Be sure to access the Mi Account linked to your phone before you proceed.
