The Mi Keyboard is installed by default on all Xiaomi smartphones and supports more than 100 languages, including regional variants (e.g. English). UK and US, Spanish Latin America and Spain to add a new language:

4. How to add rare languages (e.g. Latvian, Hungarian, Hebrew)
Not all languages are available in standard Mi Keyboard or Gboard keyboards. If you want a rare language (like Tatar, Basque or Swahili), there are a few ways to do this:
Method 1: Third-party keyboards
Applications like SwiftKey, AnySoftKeyboard, or Multiling O Keyboard support hundreds of languages, including regional dialects.
- ๐ฎ๐ฑ AnySoftKeyboard with an extension package is suitable for Hebrew.
- ๐ฑ๐ป For Latvian or Lithuanian โ SwiftKey with the option to Show all languages enabled.
- ๐น๐ท For Turkish (Q-close) โ Gboard with manual selection of layout.
Method 2: Manual addition through APK
Some languages (such as Kazakh in Cyrillic or Mongolian) require additional packages:
- Download. APK language package (e.g. Google Indic Keyboard for Indian languages).
- Install the file through any file manager.
- Activate the new language in the keyboard settings.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Installation APK Use only official resources such as APKMirror.
Method 3: Using System Fonts
Some languages (such as Hindi or Arabic) may require additional fonts:
- Go to Settings. โ Additionally. โ Language and input โ Fonts.
- Download the desired font (for example, Noto Sans Devanagari for Hindi).
- Reset the device.
๐ก
If you want a language with a non-Latin alphabet (such as Georgian or Armenian), check before adding if your keyboard supports Unicode characters. To do this, try typing any character in that language in a notebook - if displayed correctly, you can add the language to the keyboard.
5. Set up automatic language switching
Constant manual switching between languages can be inconvenient.
On the Mi Keyboard:
- Open the keyboard settings (icon) โ๏ธ panel).
- Go to Languages and layout โ Automatic switching.
- Turn on the option and select the languages you want to switch between automatically.
On Gboard:
- Go to the Gboard settings โ Languages โ Language settings.
- Activate Automatic Switching of the layout.
- Choose languages that are automatically recognized.
Tips for the exact operation of autoswitching:
- ๐ Add frequently used words in both languages (such as names or terms) to the dictionary).
- ๐ If the keyboard is wrong, manually correct the word โ the algorithm will remember your choice.
- ๐ซ Turn off auto-switching for languages with similar letters (e.g. English and German) to avoid false positives.
๐ก
Auto-switching works best if you use at least 2-3 languages regularly.
6. Features for older Xiaomi models (Android 9 and below)
On Android 9 Pie or earlier devices (e.g. Xiaomi Mi 8, Redmi Note 5), the process of adding languages may be different:
- ๐ฑ No quick access to settings: instead of an icon โ๏ธ on the keyboard you need to go to the system settings (Settings) โ Additionally. โ Language and input).
- ๐ Limited list of languages: some regional variants (e.g. English (India)) may not be available.
- ๐ No automatic switching: only newer versions of Mi Keyboard and Gboard support this feature.
If your device is working on MIUI 10 or lower, follow the alternative instructions:
- Go to Settings. โ Language and input โ Current keyboard โ Mi Keyboard.
- Select Settings โ Input languages.
- Click Add Language and find the language you want in the list. If there is no language, install Gboard from Google Play.
โ ๏ธ Note: On Android 8 Oreo and below, when adding new languages, you may experience a โCanโt load the languageโ error, in which case cleaning the Mi Keyboard app cache or resetting keyboard settings will help.
7. How to remove unnecessary languages from the keyboard
Too many languages added can slow down keyboards and take up too much memory to remove unnecessary ones:
On the Mi Keyboard:
- Open the keyboard settings (icon) โ๏ธ).
- Go to Languages and layout.
- Touch the language you want to remove and swipe it to the left or click Remove.
On Gboard:
- Go to the Gboard settings โ Languages.
- Click on the unnecessary language and select Delete.
- Confirm the action.
What to do if the tongue is not removed:
- ๐ Restart the device โ sometimes changes only apply after a reboot.
- ๐ฑ Reset the keyboard settings (see Section 3).
- ๐ซ Turn off sync (in Gboard): go to Settings โ Dictionary โ Synchronize the dictionary and turn off the option.
