The quick-setting panel (or โcurtainโ) on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is one of the most popular interface elements, and it's packed with switches for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, power saving, and other features that need instant access. But what if the icon isn't in the curtain? Or is it suddenly missing after the MIUI update?
Many users do not even realize that the curtain can be completely customized: add hidden default icons (for example, NFS or Mode in the car), change their order, and in some versions of firmware even install icons from third-party applications. In this article, we will analyze all the ways, including little-known tricks for MIUI 14 and MIUI 15, which work on models from Redmi Note 10 to Redmi 13 Pro+.
Important: the curtain configuration options vary depending on the MIUI version and regional firmware. For example, in the Global ROM, some options may be blocked, while in China ROM, advanced features are available.
1. Standard method: editing through the settings menu
The easiest method is to use the built-in MIUI tools, which are suitable for most Redmi models and does not require super-user rights.
1. Open the notification curtain completely (swipe your finger twice from the top edge of the screen).
2. Click on the โ๏ธ Settings icon (or Pencil in older versions MIUI).
3. In the menu that opens, you will see two blocks:
Active icons (the ones that are displayed in the curtain now).
Inactive icons (hidden but available for addition)
To add a new icon, just drag it from the bottom block to the top, and the order of the icons also changes by dragging, and this method works for the standard functions: Flashlight, Flight Mode, Hot Spot, and others.
- ๐ How do you get the badge back if it's gone? Sometimes after the MIUI update, the badges are reset. Check the inactive list -- maybe it's just hidden.
- ๐ฑ Limitation MIUI: No more than 12 icons can be displayed in the curtain at a time (some firmware has 9).
- ๐ Locked icons: Some switches (such as Ultra Battery Saver) cannot be removed from the curtain, but are tied to system functions.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Redmi with European Region firmware (EEA ROM) may not have the option of editing the curtain via the menu. In this case, use the method with ADB (Section 4).
2. Hidden icons: how to include those that are not on the list
MIUI has switches that don't show up in either the active or the inactive curtain icons, like:
- ๐ Driving mode (automatically switches on speakerphone and blocks notifications)
- ๐ก 4G/5G Priority (forced network selection)
- ๐ Super Wallpaper (quick shutdown of animated wallpaper)
- ๐ฎ Game Turbo (optimization for games)
To activate them, you need to use the hidden settings menu.
- Open the phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##
- In the menu that appears, select Phone Information.
- Scroll down to the MIUI Settings block and click the Edit Notifications Bar.
Here you will see a complete list of icons, including those hidden in the standard interface. Please note that some switches may not work on your Redmi model (e.g. 5G on devices without support for this network).
3. Adding Third-Party Application Icons
Want to have a switch for VPN, Dark Theme in Telegram or Read Mode in Chrome displayed in the curtain? in MIUI 14/15, this is possible, but with limitations.
Method 1: Through application settings
- Open the settings of the application you want (for example, 1.1.1.1 for VPN).
- Find the option to Add to the Quick Settings Panel (or similar).
- After activation, the icon will appear in the list of inactive curtain elements - add it in the standard way.
Method 2: Use of a widget (for some applications)
- Long press on the free place of the main screen โ Widgets.
- Find the app widget (like Google Assistant or Shazam).
- Drag it onto the screen โ some widgets duplicate the quick switch feature.
โ ๏ธ Limitations:
- ๐ซ Not all apps support curtain integration (like WhatsApp or Instagram).
- ๐ Third-party app icons may disappear after the MIUI update.
- ๐ ๏ธ On Redmi with MIUI for Russia (RU ROM), this method is more stable than on global firmware.
๐ก
If the third-party app icon is missing after the update, try reinstalling the app, often restoring integration with the curtain.
4. Advanced customization via ADB (for power users)
If standard methods donโt work, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which allows you to add any system icons, even those that are locked in your version of MIUI.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ A computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and ADB.
- ๐ฑ Enable debugging on USB on your smartphone (Settings โ About Phone โ Version MIUI โ Press 7 times to unlock Developer Settings).
- ๐ USB-Type C Cable (preferably original).
Instructions:
- Connect Redmi to your PC and confirm access for debugging.
- Open the command line (CMD) and enter: adb shell settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles), custom_tile" Replace custom_tile with the desired icon ID (list below).
- Reboot your smartphone.
๐ Popular icons identification:
| Function | Identifier for ADB | Supported models |
|---|---|---|
| NPF | nfc | All Redmis with NFC chip |
| Car mode. | car_mode | MIUI 12 and newer |
| Network priority | cell_plan | Only 5G- models |
| Screen time. | digital_wellbeing | MIUI 14+ |
| One-hand mode | one_hand | All models. |
โ ๏ธ Warning: Incorrect commands ADB can cause curtain failures. Before experimenting, back up the settings via Settings โ Additional โ Backup.

5. Restoring the curtain after failure
Sometimes, after a failed update or reset, the curtain is reset to factory status and the icons disappear.
Method 1: Resetting through settings
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find the MIUI (or System UI) system interface.
- Press Warehouse. โ Clear the data.
โ ๏ธ This will reset all the curtain settings, but it will return the standard icons.
Method 2: Manual recovery through ADB
If the badges are missing after the ADB experiments, follow the command:
adb shell cmd overlay reset com.android.systemuiThen restart the device.
Method 3: Recoiling the MIUI Update
If the problem has appeared after the update, try to roll back:
- Download the previous version of MIUI for your model from the Xiaomi Firmware website.
- Go to Settings โ About Phone โ System Update โ Three-point โ Select a firmware file.
What if the curtain started to lay after the update?
6. Alternative launchers with curtain customization
If standard methods do not suit, you can install a side launcher with advanced curtain settings.
- ๐ Nova Launcher + TeslaUnread plugin โ allows you to add custom switches and widgets to the curtain.
๐น How it works:
1. Install the launcher from Google Play and make it the main one.
2. In the launcher settings, look for the Quick Settings or Notification Panel section.
3. Add the icons you need from the list (including those that are not in the standard MIUI).
โ ๏ธ Cons:
- ๐ Some system features (e.g., Game Turbo) may not work through third-party launchers.
- ๐ After updating MIUI The launcher settings may be reset.
๐ก
The launcher side is the only way to add more than 12 icons to the curtain on MIUI, but they consume additional RAM (up to 150-200 MB).
7. Frequent problems and their solutions
Letโs take a look at the typical errors when setting up the curtain on Xiaomi Redmi:
Problem 1: The icon is added but does not work when pressed.
Decision:
- Check if the feature itself is enabled in the settings (e.g., NFC must be activated in Settings โ Connections).
- Restart your phone โ sometimes the system services donโt have time to update.
- For third-party applications, reinstall them.
Problem 2: After the MIUI update, all custom icons disappeared.
Decision:
- Check if the settings have reset in Settings โ About Phone โ Resetting Settings โ Resetting the curtain settings.
- If you have used ADB, repeat the commands (Section 4).
Problem 3: I can't find the curtain editing option.
Decision:
- Make sure you donโt have MIUI Lite (a simplified version for weak devices).
- Try changing your firmware region to India or Global via Settings โ Additional โ Region.
Problem 4: The icons in the curtain are not displayed correctly (blurred or cropped).
Decision:
- Change the theme to standard (Settings โ Screen โ Theme).
- Clear the System Interface cache (see Section 5).
