How to return the screen rotate button to the Xiaomi control panel: 5 working ways

Why Xiaomi is missing the auto-turn button and how to restore it

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphone owners often experience the autorotation icon disappearing from the Quick Settings panel after a MIUI update, reset or accidental removal of the widgets. Unlike Samsung or Google Pixel, where the turn button is always in sight, it has to be added manually to the MIUI shell — and it’s not always obvious how to do it.

Complicating the problem is that new versions of MIUI 13/14 have changed the path to the control panel settings, and in some models (for example, Xiaomi 13T or POCO F5), the autorotation button is hidden by default. We tested 5 ways to return this feature — from standard to hidden — and put them together in one instruction. Importantly, on devices with HyperOS (2026), the algorithm is different — for them there is a separate section.

Before you start, check:

• 🔄 Version. MIUI: Go to Settings. → The phone. → Version. MIUI. Ways to do this MIUI 12 and MIUI 14 different.
• 📱 Smartphone model: on POCO Redmi Note sometimes requires additional gyroscope sensor adjustment.
• 🔧 Root rights: If you use custom firmware, some methods may not work.

Method 1: Standard Addition through Panel Editing

This is the simplest method that works on 90% of Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-14, Suitable for Redmi 10/11, POCO X3/X4, Xiaomi 12/13 and others.

Instructions:

1. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
2. Swipe down again to open the full Quick Settings panel.
3. Click on the icon. ⚙️ "Edit" (or Pencil in some versions).
4. In the list of "Other settings" find the icon "Turn" (arrow in a circle) and drag it to the top of the screen.
5. Press "Done" or ✓ preserve.

If the "Turn" button is not in the list, it means:

• 🔍 It’s already added, but hidden behind a swipe (check the second page of the panel).
• 📵 Function disabled in system settings (see Method 2).
• 🛠️ Your model requires an alternative method (e.g., a model, POCO F4 GT s MIUI 13.5).

⚠️ Note: On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi 12 Lite) it may disappear after a reboot after adding a button. MIUI 13.2.3.0 – Update your firmware to the latest version.

Method 2: Enabling autorotation in system settings

Sometimes the turn button is not lost from the panel, but because of the disabled function in the settings, which is true for the Redmi 9A/9C, POCO M4 Pro and other budget models, where the auto turn is turned off by default to save battery.

To check:

1. Open the Settings → Screen.
2. Select Autoturn (or Screen Turn in older versions).
3. Make sure the switch is active (blue).
4. If you do not have an option, go to Settings → Additional → Special Opportunities → Autoturn.

On models with MIUI 14 (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra) the path is different:

Settings → Display → Advanced settings → Autoturn

⚠️ Note: If the screen rotates arbitrarily after turning on the autorotation (for example, in the POCO X3 Pro), perform sensor calibration: Settings → The phone. → All parameters. → Calibration of the gyroscope.

Method 3: Resetting the control panel settings

If the turn button was removed accidentally and does not appear in the list of available widgets, resetting the quick settings panel will help.This method works on all Xiaomi devices, but resets all custom widget settings.

How to reset:

1. Open the notification panel and press ⚙️ Edit.
2. In the upper right corner, tap on ⋮ (Three points) → Reset the settings.
3. Confirm the action.
4. After resetting, the “Turn” button should appear in the list of Other settings.

If there is no reset option (relevant to MIUI 14), use an alternative method:

Settings → Applications → Application Management → System Applications → Notification Panel → Storage → Clear Data

Once the panel is reset, all widgets will return to factory settings, so to avoid reconfiguring everything, take a screenshot of the current layout before resetting.

Method 4: Add a button via HyperOS (for 2026 models)

In 2026, Xiaomi began the transition to a new HyperOS shell, which replaced MIUI, in which the algorithm for adding widgets changed. If you have a Xiaomi 14, Redmi K70 or another model with HyperOS, follow this instruction:

Steps:

1. Swipe down to open the notification panel.
2. Swipe left through the Quick Settings panel to open the second page (there is often a turn button hidden there).
3. If the button is not, press it. ⚙️ → Change the order.
4. In the list, find the “Blocking Turn” (the icon with the lock and arrow) and add it to the active widgets.
5. In HyperOS, the button works in reverse mode: if it is illuminated, the turn is blocked.

Features of HyperOS:

• 🔄 The turn button is now called “Blocking the Turn” (not just “Turn").
• 📱 On Xiaomi 14 Pro, the widget can be on the third page of the panel.
• ⚙️ In some builds HyperOS requires first to enable autorotation in Settings → Screen. → Extended. → Crash-turn.

Method 5: Alternative methods (for power users)

If the standard methods didn't work, try these options. They require additional knowledge or superuser rights.

Method A: Use of ADB (no root rights)

Suitable for devices where the turn button is blocked by the manufacturer (for example, in some regional firmware Redmi).

After you execute the commands, restart the phone. The button should appear in the panel.

Method B: Installation of custom control panel

For users with an unlocked bootloader, you can install an alternative panel, such as a Power Shade or QuickStar (Magisk requires), which allows you to add any widgets, including turning the screen.

Method C: Control gestures

On the POCO F5 and Xiaomi 13T, you can assign a gesture to turn the screen:

1. Go to Settings. → Additionally. → Gestures.
2. Select Screen Gestures.
3. Assign a swipe diagonally (for example, from the lower left corner up) to "Turn the screen".
