How to return the screen rotate button to the Xiaomi control panel: 5 working ways

Why Xiaomi is missing the auto-turn button and how to restore it

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphone owners often experience the autorotation icon disappearing from the Quick Settings panel after a MIUI update, reset or accidental removal of the widgets. Unlike Samsung or Google Pixel, where the turn button is always in sight, it has to be added manually to the MIUI shell โ€” and itโ€™s not always obvious how to do it.

Complicating the problem is that new versions of MIUI 13/14 have changed the path to the control panel settings, and in some models (for example, Xiaomi 13T or POCO F5), the autorotation button is hidden by default. We tested 5 ways to return this feature โ€” from standard to hidden โ€” and put them together in one instruction. Importantly, on devices with HyperOS (2026), the algorithm is different โ€” for them there is a separate section.

Before you start, check:

  • ๐Ÿ”„ Version. MIUI: Go to Settings. โ†’ The phone. โ†’ Version. MIUI. Ways to do this MIUI 12 and MIUI 14 different.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Smartphone model: on POCO Redmi Note sometimes requires additional gyroscope sensor adjustment.
  • ๐Ÿ”ง Root rights: If you use custom firmware, some methods may not work.

Method 1: Standard Addition through Panel Editing

This is the simplest method that works on 90% of Xiaomi devices with MIUI 12-14, Suitable for Redmi 10/11, POCO X3/X4, Xiaomi 12/13 and others.

Instructions:

  1. Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
  2. Swipe down again to open the full Quick Settings panel.
  3. Click on the icon. โš™๏ธ "Edit" (or Pencil in some versions).
  4. In the list of "Other settings" find the icon "Turn" (arrow in a circle) and drag it to the top of the screen.
  5. Press "Done" or โœ“ preserve.

If the "Turn" button is not in the list, it means:

  • ๐Ÿ” Itโ€™s already added, but hidden behind a swipe (check the second page of the panel).
  • ๐Ÿ“ต Function disabled in system settings (see Method 2).
  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Your model requires an alternative method (e.g., a model, POCO F4 GT s MIUI 13.5).

โ˜‘๏ธ Preparation before adding a button

Done: 0 / 4

โš ๏ธ Note: On some devices (e.g. Xiaomi 12 Lite) it may disappear after a reboot after adding a button. MIUI 13.2.3.0 โ€“ Update your firmware to the latest version.

Method 2: Enabling autorotation in system settings

Sometimes the turn button is not lost from the panel, but because of the disabled function in the settings, which is true for the Redmi 9A/9C, POCO M4 Pro and other budget models, where the auto turn is turned off by default to save battery.

To check:

  1. Open the Settings โ†’ Screen.
  2. Select Autoturn (or Screen Turn in older versions).
  3. Make sure the switch is active (blue).
  4. If you do not have an option, go to Settings โ†’ Additional โ†’ Special Opportunities โ†’ Autoturn.

On models with MIUI 14 (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra) the path is different:

Settings โ†’ Display โ†’ Advanced settings โ†’ Autoturn
Xiaomi modelThe path to auto-turn settingsNotes
Redmi Note 10/11Settings โ†’ Screen โ†’ AutoturnMay require a reboot.
POCO F3/F4Settings โ†’ Display โ†’ Advanced โ†’ TurnThe gyroscope sensor is sometimes reset
Xiaomi 12/13 ProSettings โ†’ Screen โ†’ Autoturn โ†’ Sensor settingsThere is an option to calibrate the gyroscope
Redmi 9/9ASettings โ†’ Special. opportunities โ†’ AutoturnThe function may not be available in some regions

โš ๏ธ Note: If the screen rotates arbitrarily after turning on the autorotation (for example, in the POCO X3 Pro), perform sensor calibration: Settings โ†’ The phone. โ†’ All parameters. โ†’ Calibration of the gyroscope.

Method 3: Resetting the control panel settings

If the turn button was removed accidentally and does not appear in the list of available widgets, resetting the quick settings panel will help. This method works on all Xiaomi devices, but resets all custom widget settings.

How to reset:

  1. Open the notification panel and press โš™๏ธ Edit.
  2. In the upper right corner, tap on โ‹ฎ (Three points) โ†’ Reset the settings.
  3. Confirm the action.
  4. After resetting, the โ€œTurnโ€ button should appear in the list of Other settings.

If there is no reset option (relevant to MIUI 14), use an alternative method:

Settings โ†’ Applications โ†’ Application Management โ†’ System Applications โ†’ Notification Panel โ†’ Storage โ†’ Clear Data

๐Ÿ’ก

Once the panel is reset, all widgets will return to factory settings, so to avoid reconfiguring everything, take a screenshot of the current layout before resetting.

Method 4: Add a button via HyperOS (for 2026 models)

In 2026, Xiaomi began the transition to a new HyperOS shell, which replaced MIUI, in which the algorithm for adding widgets changed. If you have a Xiaomi 14, Redmi K70 or another model with HyperOS, follow this instruction:

Steps:

  1. Swipe down to open the notification panel.
  2. Swipe left through the Quick Settings panel to open the second page (there is often a turn button hidden there).
  3. If the button is not, press it. โš™๏ธ โ†’ Change the order.
  4. In the list, find the โ€œBlocking Turnโ€ (the icon with the lock and arrow) and add it to the active widgets.
  5. In HyperOS, the button works in reverse mode: if it is illuminated, the turn is blocked.

Features of HyperOS:

  • ๐Ÿ”„ The turn button is now called โ€œBlocking the Turnโ€ (not just โ€œTurn").
  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ On Xiaomi 14 Pro, the widget can be on the third page of the panel.
  • โš™๏ธ In some builds HyperOS requires first to enable autorotation in Settings โ†’ Screen. โ†’ Extended. โ†’ Crash-turn.
What to do if there is no turn button in HyperOS?
In rare cases (e.g., HyperOS test builds for Redmi K70E), the button may be missing due to a bug. Solution: 1. Update the firmware to the latest version via Settings โ†’ About Phone โ†’ System Update. 2. If there are no updates, install manual firmware via MIUI bootloader (unlocked bootloader required). 3. Alternative: Use the turn lock gesture - double tap the turn icon in the status bar (top right corner of the screen).

Method 5: Alternative methods (for power users)

If the standard methods didn't work, try these options. They require additional knowledge or superuser rights.

Method A: Use of ADB (no root rights)

Suitable for devices where the turn button is blocked by the manufacturer (for example, in some regional firmware Redmi).

adb shell settings put global auto_rotation_available 1

adb shell settings put global auto_rotation_enabled 1

After you execute the commands, restart the phone. The button should appear in the panel.

Method B: Installation of custom control panel

For users with an unlocked bootloader, you can install an alternative panel, such as a Power Shade or QuickStar (Magisk requires), which allows you to add any widgets, including turning the screen.

Method C: Control gestures

On the POCO F5 and Xiaomi 13T, you can assign a gesture to turn the screen:

  1. Go to Settings. โ†’ Additionally. โ†’ Gestures.
  2. Select Screen Gestures.
  3. Assign a swipe diagonally (for example, from the lower left corner up) to "Turn the screen".

โš ๏ธ Attention: Use ADB Or custom modules can cause system failure if the commands are entered incorrectly. โ†’ Additionally. โ†’ Backup.

๐Ÿ’ก

If you are not sure about your skills, it is best to contact the Xiaomi service center or use standard methods (Methods 1-3).

Frequent problems and their solutions

Even after adding the turn button, users are confronted with bugs, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:

If your problem is not resolved, check:

  • ๐Ÿ”‹ Power saving mode: it can block sensors. Turn it off in Settings โ†’ Battery.
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Third-party apps: Some launchers (like Nova Launcher) conflict with the panel MIUI.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฒ Updates: Xiaomi forums often post patches for twist bugs (look for phone model).
Why did the turn button disappear after the MIUI 14 upgrade?
In MIUI 14, the control panel structure has changed, so the button can now be called "Block Turn" and be located on the second page of the widgets. Also check if the autorotor is turned off in the screen settings. If there is no button at all, try resetting the panel (Method 3).
Can I add a turn button to a POCO F5 without root rights?
Yes. POCO F5 s MIUI 14 button is added via editing the panel (Method 1). If it is not listed, turn on autorotation in Settings โ†’ Display. โ†’ Extended. โ†’ Turn around, then reset your phone. ADB-Teams (Method 5, Method A).
What if the screen rotates even when the turn button is off?
This indicates that the gyroscope sensor is failing. Calibrate: Go to Settings โ†’ About Phone โ†’ All settings. Find the gyroscope calibration (or Sensor calibration). Follow the on-screen instructions (usually put the phone on a flat surface). If the problem persists, turn off the autorotor completely and use manual control through the panel.
How to return the turn button to Xiaomi 13 Ultra with HyperOS?
In HyperOS, the button is called โ€œBlocking the Turnโ€ and works in reverse mode (backlighting). = To add it, open the notification panel and swipe left. Press โš™๏ธ โ†’ Change the order. Find the "Block Turn" widget and drag it to the active zone. If the widget is missing, update the firmware or reset the panel settings (Method 3).
Can I assign a screen rotation to the volume button?
Yes, but only with third-party apps like Button Mapper (requires Android 10+). Algorithm: Install Button Mapper from Google Play. Grant permissions to access special features. Set Toggle auto-rotate to hold the volume button. MIUI may require you to turn off battery optimization for the application.
