Adding a Google account to a Xiaomi smartphone is a must-have for the device, without which you can’t download apps from the Play Market, sync contacts, photos, or use services like Gmail and Google Drive. However, Xiaomi owners often face nuances ranging from the lack of an add-on button to synchronization errors due to the features of the MIUI shell.
In this article, we’ll look at all the ways you can add a Google account, from the standard method through settings to workarounds for devices with limited functionality on Google services (e.g., models for the Chinese market). You will also learn how to fix common errors, why the system can block the input and how to ensure the security of data during synchronization. Preparing a smartphone before adding an account
Before you start adding a Google account, make sure your smartphone is ready for the procedure, which will eliminate most errors like “I couldn’t sign in” or “Google Play services have stopped.”
First, check your Internet connection. You only add an account with a stable connection, preferably over Wi-Fi, as mobile internet may be interrupted.

If you don’t have a Google account option in your settings, try it through Play Market, which works even on some Chinese firmware with partially installed Google services.

Installing Google services on Chinese firmware
Xiaomi smartphones designed for the Chinese market (with the CN suffix in the model name) often come without Google services preinstalled. To add an account, you will need to install the Google Framework manually.
The most reliable way is to use the Xiaomi EU ROM utility or the GMS Installer package.
- Download the archive from the Google Framework for your model from the Xiaomi EU forum.
- Unpack the archive and transfer the folder to your smartphone.
- Install. APK-Manual files starting with Google Account Manager and Google Services Framework.
- Restart your device and try adding an account through the Play Market.
An alternative method is to use Magisk and Universal SafetyNet Fix, which will help bypass SafetyNet if the system blocks the installation of the GMS. However, this will require unlocking the bootloader and root rights, which will void the warranty.
What if no account is added after installing the GMS?
Data synchronization and security settings
After adding a Google account, set up sync to avoid data loss when resetting or replacing your device. Open Settings → Accounts → Google → Account Sync and enable options:
