Why is the alarm clock on Xiaomi so hard to find?
If you've just bought a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphone and can't find a standard alarm clock, you're not alone. The manufacturer regularly changes the layout of system applications in the MIUI shell, and in the latest versions (MIUI 14-15) and completely removed the shortcut from the home screen by default. Even experienced users sometimes get lost when they urgently need to set an alarm on an unfamiliar model.
Complicating the problem is that on some Xiaomi devices, the alarm clock is integrated into the Clock app, and on others it works as a separate Alarm app, depending on the firmware version and regional build, and in this article we will explore all possible options, from the classic path through the menu to hidden ways to launch through the voice assistant.
Method 1: Standard path through the app "Clock"
On most modern Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13), the alarm is hidden inside the system app Clock.
- Open the menu of all applications (swipe up from the bottom of the screen).
- Find the icon “Clock” (usually an analog watch with a white dial on a blue background).
- Slip the icon to open the app.
- In the bottom panel, select the tab "Alarm clock" (bell icon).
If the icon “Clock” is not in the app menu, try using the search:
- 🔍 Swipe down the main screen to open the search bar.
- 📝 Enter the request for a clock or clock (in English layout).
- 🛎️ In the results, select "Clock" or "Alarm».
💡
If the search doesn’t find the Watch app, check if it’s disabled in the settings. Go to Settings → Apps → App Management and find Clock in the list.
Method 2: Quick access through the notification panel
The latest versions of MIUI 14/15 (Android 13/14) have a convenient alarm label right in the notification bar.
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Swipe down again to turn the full panel around.
- Find the icon “Alarm bell” at the bottom of the screen.
- Slip on it - the section of creating a new alarm clock will open.
If there is no label, it can be added manually:
- 🔧 Click on the Edit icon (pencil) in the notification bar.
- 📱 Find the “Alarm” list and drag it to the active area.
- ✅ Click “Ready” to save the changes.
What to do if the notification panel does not swipe?
Method 3: Google Voice Assistant or XiaoAI
If you don't want to dig through the menu, you can use a voice assistant, which is especially convenient when the phone is on charge or you're busy doing other things.
For Google Assistant:
- Say “OK Google” or hold the Home button (if you have one).
- Say the command: “Set an alarm for 7 a.m.” or “Show my alarm clocks.”
- The assistant will either set an alarm clock right away or open the Watch app.
For XiaoAI (XiaoAI built-in assistant):
- 🎤 Hold the power button (on some models) or say XiaoAI».
- 🕰️ Say “Open the alarm clock” or “Set the alarm for tomorrow at 6:30 am».
- 🔄 If the assistant doesn’t understand, try to reformulate the request.
Method 4: Through system settings (alternative method)
If standard methods don’t work (for example, after resetting settings or updating firmware), you can open the alarm through system settings. This method is universal for all Xiaomi models, including the old Redmi 4X or Mi A2.
- Open the "Settings" (cog icon).
- Go to the Appendix section → Application management.
- In the search box, enter a clock or clock.
- Slip on the Clock app (com.android.deskclock).
- Click "Open" and the alarm clock interface will open.
If the Clock app is disabled:
- ⚙️ In the same application management menu, click "Enable».
- 🔄 Restart your phone if the alarm doesn’t appear.
Make sure the alarm is on (the slider is active)
Check the volume of the signal (not in silent mode)
Set the melody (may be without sound by default)
Turn off the "Do Not Disturb" mode during the alarm clock
-->
Method 5: Set a third-party alarm clock (if the standard one doesn't work)
If the built-in alarm clock does not save the settings, does not work or is not at all (this happens after informal firmware), you can install an alternative application.-3 tested:
| Annex | Features | Download link |
|---|---|---|
| Google Clock | Minimalist design, integration with Google Assistant, Spotting mode (gradual awakening) | Google Play |
| Alarmy | A hard awakening (must be scanned) QR-code or solve a mathematical problem, suitable for "sleeping» | Google Play |
| Sleep as Android | Smart alarm clock with sleep phase analysis, integration with wearable devices (Mi Band) | Google Play |
To set a third-party alarm:
- Download the application from Google Play (links in the table).
- Open it and provide the necessary permissions (access to notifications, microphone for voice control, etc.).
- Turn off the standard Xiaomi alarm to avoid conflicts (go to Settings → Apps → Watches → Disable).
💡
Third-party alarms often offer additional features (such as sleep tracking or adaptive wake-up), but can drain the battery faster due to operating in the background.
Why does Xiaomi’s alarm clock fail? 5 common reasons
Even if you set your alarm correctly, it may not work, and here are the main reasons and ways to fix them:
- 🔇 Do Not Disturb: Check if it's on while the alarm goes. → Sound and vibration → Don't disturb and set exceptions.
- 🔋 Optimizing the battery: MIUI aggressively closes the background processes. Add the Clock app to the exceptions: Settings → Battery → Optimizing the battery → All applications → The clock → Not optimize.
- 🔔 Signal volume: Make sure the alarm clock volume is not at zero. Press the volume button and check the alarm clock slider».
- 📵 Firmware problems: After the update MIUI The alarm clock may be reset. Try resetting the Clock app settings to Settings. → Annexes → The clock → Warehouse → Clear the data.
- 🕒 Wrong time zone: If the phone is showing the wrong time, the alarm clock won't work when it's right. → Additionally. → Date and time.
💡
If the alarm is going off but the sound is too quiet, try changing the tune. Some standard MIUI signals are low volume. Go to the alarm settings and select the tune from the Local Files section.
⚠️ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi) 9A or POCO M3) The alarm clock doesn't work in Energy Saving mode. Turn it off before bed or add the clock to the exclusion list.
How to return the alarm to the main screen?
If you're uncomfortable opening the Watch app every time, you can create a shortcut right on your desktop.
- Press and hold the empty space on the main screen.
- In the menu that appears, select “Widgets”.
- Scroll down the list and find the “Clock” section.
- Select the alarm clock widget (usually an icon with a bell).
- Drag him to the main screen.
If the widget is missing:
- 📥 Install a launcher from Google (e.g. Google Now Launcher or Nova Launcher).
- 🔄 In the launcher settings, find the option “Add shortcut” and select “Clock” → Alarm clock».
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI Global for the European market) alarm widget may not be available due to manufacturer restrictions, in which case use the method with a notification panel or voice assistant.
