Background connectivity is a mechanism that allows applications to communicate when you are not using them directly.
Understanding this mechanism is critical to optimizing MIUI or HyperOS. Without proper setup, background processes can significantly reduce battery life and exhaust mobile traffic limits. In this article, we will discuss how to manage these processes effectively.
The Android system that powers Xiaomiβs shells is designed to keep information updated, but aggressive memory optimization in Xiaomiβs firmware sometimes conflicts with user needs, requiring manual adjustments. Disabling the background data in global settings can lead to messaging and system notifications.
The principle of background processes in MIUI
When you fold an app or lock the screen, the operating system doesn't always stop it completely. Many programs continue to perform tasks like downloading messages, updating news feeds or synchronizing cloud data. In Xiaomi terminology, this is often called background traffic or background activity.
System services such as Google Play Services or Xiaomi Cloud are given higher priority and access to the network even in an energy-saving environment, and third-party applications may be limited to power-saving settings.
It is important to distinguish between two types of background activity: the system allowed and the user allowed. The first is necessary for the basic functionality of the smartphone, the second is the whim of software developers. Control over the second type allows you to significantly extend the life of the battery.

Power saving mode is the main tool that automatically changes the game for background connections, and when you activate Saving or Super Saving mode, the system forcibly restricts background activity for most applications.
In Super Battery Saver mode, only the basic set of functions remain active: calls, SMS, and possibly one chosen messenger. All other background processes, including synchronizing email and updating widgets, stop completely.
You can set exceptions. You can go to Settings β Battery β Power Saving Settings. You can add important apps to the list of those that won't be subject to severe restrictions even at low charge.

Managing Auto Startup and Related Processes
Autorun and background connection are closely related: If an application is allowed to autorun, it is more likely to try to maintain a permanent connection to the server, and these parameters are managed through the built-in Security tool.
