Screenshots have long been a feature of smartphones, but what if you want to save not only the visible part of the page, but the entire long chat, article or list? On Xiaomi devices with a MIUI shell, there are several ways to create a so-called long screenshot (or scrolling screenshot) β from built-in tools to third-party applications. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, including hidden chips for old and new models.
It's important to understand that the ability to do a long screen depends on the version of the MIUI and the model of the smartphone. For example, on the Redmi Note 10 Pro with MIUI 13, the algorithm is different from POCO F5 to MIUI 14. We tested all the methods on devices from Xiaomi Mi 11 to Redmi 12C to give accurate instructions. If the standard method does not work, there are alternative solutions in the article.
Also note that long screens are not supported in some applications (such as games or banking programs) due to security limitations, but browsers, instant messengers and social networks will not be affected.
1. Standard method through screenshot menu (MIUI 12β14)
The easiest method is to use the built-in scrolling screen feature that appeared in MIUI 12 and works on most modern Xiaomi devices. The algorithm is the same for Redmi, POCO and Black Shark, but may vary slightly depending on the firmware version.
Here's how it works:
- Take a regular screenshot: press Power + Volume Down buttons at the same time (or swipe three fingers across the screen if gesture navigation is enabled).
- At the bottom of the screen, you'll see a thumbnail of the screen, and you'll tap it to open the editing panel.
- At the bottom of the screen, look for the "Scroll" button -- it looks like two up and down arrows. Press it.
- Wait for the system to automatically scroll through the page and connect the parts into one long screen, and in the process, you can manually stop scrolling if you want to capture only a portion of the content.
- Save the result with the βReadyβ button or share it directly through the menu.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Redmi) 9A s MIUI 12.5) The scroll button may not be present in the standard editor, in which case try alternative methods from the following sections.
2. Long screen through "Read Mode" (for web pages)
If you need to save the full article or web page, but the standard scrolling does not work, use the built-in read mode in the Mi Browser or Google Chrome browser. This method is suitable for MIUI 13/14 and allows you to capture content even on older models.
Instructions:
- π Open the page you want in your Mi Browser browser (or Chrome if installed).
- π± In the address bar, tap on the Read Mode icon (bookmarked). If it's not available, open the browser menu (three dots) and select Read Mode.
- πΈ Take a screenshot in this mode, then click on the thumbnail and select βScrollΒ».
- π The system will automatically capture the entire text of the article without advertising and unnecessary elements.
π‘ Useful tip: In Chrome, you can turn on reading mode through settings: Settings β Special facilities β Reading mode. It makes it easier to create long screens.
π‘
If the Scrolling button is inactive, try scrolling the page manually before creating a screen β sometimes this helps activate the feature.
Use of βQuick Canistersβ (MIUI 14)
The latest versions of MIUI 14 have introduced Quick Ball, which makes it easier to create long screens, a technique that works on the Xiaomi 13/13 Pro, POCO F5 and other new models.
How to turn on and use:
- Activate Fast Cans in Settings β Special Options β Fast Cans.
- A floating button will appear on the screen, and tap it and select the screenshot icon.
- After creating the screen in miniature, the option βScrollβ will appear β click it to capture long content.
πΉ The advantage of this method is that you can make a screen with one hand without pressing physical buttons. MIUI 14 there is an option to automatically recognize long content (for example, in Telegram or WhatsApp).
Why does scroll work in some applications?
4. Third-party applications for long screens
If the built-in methods don't work, you can use specialized utilities, and we tested a few applications and selected the most reliable ones:
| Annex | Support for MIUI | Features | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| LongShot | MIUI 12β14 | Automatic scrolling, editor, social media support | Google Play |
| Scroll Capture | All versions. | Manual and automatic scrolling, export to PDF | Google Play |
| Stitch & Share | MIUI 11+ | Combining multiple screens into one, no advertising | Google Play |
π How to use it:
- Install one of the applications (e.g. LongShot).
- Open the desired chat or page.
- Launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions (usually click βStartβ and scroll through the content manually).
- Save the result to the gallery.
β οΈ Note: Some apps require permission to display over other windows (Settings) β Annexes β Special access β Display on top of other apps. Without that, they won't be able to capture content.
5. Manually combining screens in the editor
If the automatic methods don't work, you can make a series of regular screens and manually combine them, and any graphics editor will do that, but we recommend:
- π¨ Google Photos (built-in collage function).
- πΌοΈ PicsArt or Canva (exact docking).
- π± Xiaomi Gallery (Editor function) β Collage).
Step-by-step:
- Make a few screens by scrolling through the page so that the parts overlap by 10-20%.
- Open any editor (like Google Photos) and select the option βCollageβ or βUniteβ.
- Download the screens in scroll order (top down).
- Adjust the joints manually if the automatic alignment didnβt work perfectly.
- Save the result as a single image.
Important: When manually combined, avoid large lighting differences between screens, which will spoil the final image.
Make overlap between screens 10-20%
Use the same brightness of the screen
Save the screens in a separate folder
Select an editor with an accurate docking function-->
6. Long screen on older versions of MIUI (up to 12th)
If you have Xiaomi on MIUI 11 or older (like the Redmi Note 8 or Mi 9T), you may not have a standard scrolling feature.
- π Updating firmware to MIUI 12+ (If available for your model).
- π± Use of the ADB-Teams (for advanced users).
- π οΈ Installation of custom recaveri (e.g, TWRP) long-screened.
π§ way ADB:
- Connect your phone to your PC and enable USB Debugging (Settings β About Phone β MIUI version β tap 7 times, then go back to Settings β Additional β For Developers).
- Install ADB Tools on your computer and execute the command: adb shell screencap -p | perl -pe 'BEGIN{binmode STDOUT, ":raw"} > screenshot.png Then manually scroll the screen and repeat the command for each frame.
- Combine the received PNG-file-in-editor.
β οΈ Attention: Use ADB Incorrect commands can cause system failures. For beginners, it is better to choose third-party applications from section 4.
7. Features of long screens in popular applications
Not all programs support long screens the same way.
| Annex | Support for long screening | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Telegram | β Yes. | It works in chat rooms and channels, but can crop media files. |
| β Yes. | Scrolling only works in personal chats, not in statuses. | |
| VKontakte | β No. | Blocks long screens because of content protection. |
| β οΈ Partially. | It works in the tape, but not in stories or Direct. | |
| Google Maps | β Yes. | It allows you to capture a route or a list of places. |
π‘ Instagram tip: If you need to save a long post, open it in your browser (not in the app) and use the method from Section 2 (read mode).
π‘
In instant messengers (Telegram, WhatsApp) long screens work best, as these apps do not block screen scrolling.
