Why Xiaomi Blocks Music When Recording Videos and How to Get Around It
Have you ever tried to record a video to a favorite song on Xiaomi, but you end up with silence instead of sound? It's no coincidence that smartphones automatically turn off background music when you start recording a video due to Android restrictions and copyright policy. The fact is that the system recognizes audio playback through speakers as "alien noise" and blocks it with a mixer so as not to spoil the quality of the main sound (voice, surrounding sounds).
But what if you want to record a dance to music, a background track review, or a stream with a soundtrack? There are several legal ways to get around this restriction, from using hidden camera features to third-party apps. In this article, we will discuss all the working methods for Redmi, POCO and Mi models based on MIUI 12-14 and HyperOS.
Important: Some methods require root rights or additional software, but we will focus on solutions available without hacking the system. Also note that recording videos with other people's music tracks may violate copyright when posting on social networks - use only licensed songs or your own tracks.
Method 1: Using Screen Recording Mode with Internal Sound
The easiest way to record music videos on Xiaomi is to use the built-in Screen Recorder feature, which unlike the camera, can capture internal sound from the system, including music from apps (Spotify, YouTube Music, VK Music).
How it works:
- π΅ Run the player with the right song and make sure the track plays.
- π± Open the notification panel and find the button Screen recording (if not, add through the Edit panel).
- π Before recording, click on the settings gear and turn on the option to Record sound. β Select the internal sound (not the microphone!).
- π₯ Start recording, then switch to the music app and go back to shooting.
Limitations of the method:
- β οΈ Only the screen is recorded - to shoot the world around you you will have to combine with the camera (see Method 3).
- β οΈ In some models (POCO F5, Redmi Note 12: There may be no internal audio option β activation via ADB.
Enable the option "Inner sound" in the screen recording settings
Close all background applications for sound purity
Check the volume of the music (at least 70%)
Disable notifications so they donβt get into the record-->
Method 2: Applications for recording with an external microphone (without root rights)
If you need to record camera and music video at the same time but without root rights, use third-party apps that bypass Android restrictions.
| Annex | Features | Compatibility with Xiaomi |
|---|---|---|
| AZ Screen Recorder | Recording internal sound + overlaying music after shooting | It runs on MIUI 12-14 but requires adjustment to ADB for internal sound. |
| Mobizen | Support for recording from the front and main camera + sound mixing | Stable on Redmi Note 11/12, POCO X4/X5 |
| DU Recorder | Built-in editor for overlaying music after recording | Can be lagged on weak models (Redmi 9A) |
Instructions for AZ Screen Recorder:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Start the music in the player (Spotify, Yandex Music).
- In AZ Screen Recorder, select Settings β Sound Recording β Internal Audio.
- Start recording the screen, then open the camera and shoot the video.
β οΈ Attention: MIUI 14 HyperOS to activate internal sound in AZ Screen Recorder requires you to execute a command through ADB: adb shell settings put global capture_internal_audio 1 Without it, the option will be unavailable.
Method 3: Combined recording (screen + camera) for dancing and streaming
If you need to record yourself on a camera with music (for example, for TikTok or Instagram Reels), use a combination of screen recording and a front camera.
- Turn on the song in the player and start Screen recording with the option Internal sound.
- Open the camera, switch to the front and start shooting without sound (turn off the microphone in the camera settings).
- After recording, use an editing app (such as CapCut or KineMaster) to overlay the audio track from the screen recording onto the camera video.
Advantages of the method:
- π¬ Noiseless sound (music is taken directly from the system).
- π± It works on all Xiaomi models, including Redmi. 10C and POCO M4 Pro.
- π΅ Allows you to synchronize music with movement (for example, for dancing).

Method 4: Root solutions for advanced users
If you have root rights (or are willing to get them), you can completely unlock the recording of internal sound through system files, a method that is suitable for Xiaomi based on Android 10β13.
What needs to be done:
- Install Magisk and the Audio Modification Library module.
- In the Root Explorer file manager, go on the way: /system/etc/audio_effects.conf Find the line capture.internal = False - Replace with true.
- Reset the device.
After that, any recording app (including a standard camera) can capture the internal sound, but be careful:
- β οΈ Ruth could disrupt work MIUI and lead to blocking of banking applications.
- β οΈ On some models (Xiaomi 13 Pro, POCO F4 GT) Additional build.prop configuration is required.

I'm not making a sound, then I'm mounting it.
I have a root license, I write it directly.
I use third-party apps.

How to Avoid Copyright Problems When Publicing
Even if you manage to record music videos, uploading to YouTube, TikTok or Instagram may result in content being blocked or monetized in favor of the copyright holder.
- πΌ Use free tracks from libraries: YouTube Audio Library (embedded in YouTube Studio), Epidemic Sound (paid but legal for monetization), Free Music Archive (tracks under a Creative Commons license).
- π€ Record your own covers or use instrumental versions of songs.
- π Specify music sources in the video description (e.g.: "Music: [track title] - [performer], license" CC BY 3.0").
If you want to use popular tracks:
- π§ Reduce the volume of original music in a video by 50-70% and add your voice or sounds (so algorithms are less able to recognize the composition).
- π Post the video as βPrivateβ or βFriends Onlyβ if you plan to use it for a non-commercial purpose.
β οΈ Attention: TikTok and Instagram Reels automatically recognize music and can block or limit video coverage. For example, Sony Music or Universal tracks almost always lead to blocking monetization. U.S. Copyright Office.
Frequent mistakes and how to fix them
When recording music videos on Xiaomi, users often face typical problems.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Music disappears when the camera is launched | The system automatically mutes the media when shooting | Use screen recording or applications like AZ Screen Recorder |
| Only the left/right ear (mono sound) is recorded. | Mixer error in capturing internal audio | In the recording settings, turn on Stereo sound or use the Magisk module Audio Mod |
| Video lags when recording with music | Lack of RAM | Close the background apps or lower the recording resolution to 720p |
| The app does not see the "Inner Sound" option. | MIUI Limitation for Uncertified Devices | Activate via ADB (see Method 2) or get root rights |
If none of the methods work, check:
- π Update. MIUI Up to the latest version β in new firmware sometimes add support for internal sound.
- π Make sure that the music is played through the system player (not through the browser).
- π± Restart the device β sometimes the audio service βhangsβ after prolonged use.

On Xiaomi 12T and newer (HyperOS) models, the option of recording internal sound can be blocked at the core level, in which case only root or using an external microphone to capture sound will help.
