Xiaomi cameras (popularly called soapboxes) have gained popularity due to a combination of compactness, quality of shooting and affordable price. However, even with such devices, sometimes there are problems: the device does not respond to the power button, freezes when turned on or suddenly shuts down. If your Xiaomi soapbox refuses to turn on, do not rush to carry it into the service, in 80% of cases, the problem can be solved by yourself.
In this article, we will look at all the possible ways to turn on your camera, from basic to advanced, and also tell you what to do if standard methods do not work. Particular attention will be paid to the Xiaomi Mi Compact Camera, Mijia Mini Camera and Xiaomi Smart Camera models, but the instructions will also be suitable for other devices of the brand. Before you start, make sure that your device is charged - this is the most common cause of "faults".
1. Standard Entry: Checking the Basic Actions
Start with the obvious: pressing the power button correctly. Most Xiaomi soaps have an on button on the top or side, often with a shutter. Here's how to do it correctly:
- ๐ Battery Charging: Connect the camera to the charger for 10-15 minutes, even if the indicator is not on.
- ๐ Long-term retention: Press and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds โ some models require this action for the first turn on.
- ๐ Reboot: If the camera is getting stuck (the indicator is on, but the screen is unresponsive), remove the battery for 30 seconds, then insert back in and try turning it on again.
If the soapbox never turned on after this manipulation, move to the next section. Special attention: Xiaomi Mijia Mini Camera 2 models have a hidden reset - press the power and shutter buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds until the indicator flashes red.
Battery problems: diagnostics and solutions
The battery is the most vulnerable part of a compact camera, and over time it loses capacity, it swells up, it refuses to hold a charge, and here's how to test it.
- External inspection: remove the battery and inspect it for bloating, corrosion or damage to the contacts. If the battery is deformed, don't use it! It's dangerous.
- Multimeter test: If you have a tester, measure the voltage on the contacts. Normal value for Li-ion Xiaomi batteries is 3.7-4.2 V. If the indicator is below 3.3 V, the battery is deeply discharged and may not turn on without special charging.
- Battery replacement: Mijia Mini Camera models are suitable for BL-5C batteries (similar to Nokia), the main thing is the coincidence of voltage and capacity.
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The indicator does not burn when charging | Faulty cable/adapter or charging controller | Try another cable/charging. If it doesn't work, repair the board. |
| The camera turns on, but immediately turns off. | Deep battery discharge | Charge the battery with an external RAM (e.g. iMax B6) |
| The device warms up when charging | Short circuit in the battery | Shut the grid off immediately! Replace the battery. |
โ ๏ธ Warning: If the battery is swelling, do not try to charge or puncture it! This can cause fire.
3. Settings reset: when the camera "forgets" how to turn on
Sometimes Xiaomi's soapbox will stop responding to buttons because of a software failure, in which case a factory reset will help.
Make sure the battery is 50%+ charged.
Turn off the camera (if it reacts)
Press the Power + Shutter + Mode buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds
Wait for the indicator to flash (3 times red โ reset successful)-->
Xiaomi Mi Compact Camera is a different procedure:
- Connect the camera to your computer via USB.
- Create a reset.txt file in the root directory of the memory card (without content).
- Turn on the camera, it will automatically reset.
After resetting, all settings (date, time, shooting parameters) will have to be reconfigured, and if the camera is turned on but is unstable (it turns off itself, does not save photos), you may need to flash it again, as we will discuss later.
What if the reset didn't help?
4. Firmware and software update: restore the working capacity
Outdated or damaged firmware is a common cause of dead soaps. Xiaomi regularly releases updates for its cameras, but not all users install them.
- ๐ฑ Through the Mi Home app: Connect your camera to Wi-Fi. Open the app, find your device. Go to Settings. โ Firmware update.
Manually through the memory card:
โ ๏ธ Warning: download firmware only from verified sources! Viruses or corrupted files can finally "kill" the camera.
