How to add a date to a photo in a Xiaomi phone: all ways with instructions

Why Xiaomi doesn’t have a date and how to fix it

You took a picture on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5 Pro, but when you look at the shooting date, you don't see the shooting date? This is standard: by default, Xiaomi smartphones don't put a date directly on the image, although metadata (EXIF) is stored. The problem is that this data is not displayed visually - you either need to enable it in the camera settings or add a software version.

In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to add a date to the photo: from built-in MIUI functions to third-party applications. Note: methods differ depending on the model and firmware version. For example, on Xiaomi 13 Ultra with MIUI 14, the path to settings may differ from Redmi 10A with MIUI 12.5. We took these nuances into account and provided current screenshots for the latest versions of the software.

Before you start, check:

  • 📱 Version MIUI: Settings → The phone. → Version. MIUI. If you MIUI 12 or older, all methods from the article will fit.
  • 📷 Camera version: Update it via Google Play if available.
  • 🔄 Firmware Region: on Global Versions (MIUI Global) some functions may not be available.

Critical information: On Xiaomi smartphones with a Qualcomm chipset (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro+), the date can only be added through third-party applications - the built-in feature works only on devices with MediaTek processors (for example, POCO M5).

Method 1: Include date in Xiaomi’s standard camera settings

The easiest method is to activate the date display directly in the Camera app, but it is not available on all models.

  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Touch the badge. ⚙️ «Settings"** (usually in upper right corner).
  3. Scroll down to the Watermark or Time Marks section.

If there is no such item, then your model does not support the function at the firmware level, in which case move on to methods 2-5.

☑️ What to do if the camera settings do not have the option "Date"

Done: 0 / 4
Xiaomi modelSupport for built-in dateNotes
Redmi Note 12 Pro+✅ Yes.Function in the section "Watermark"
POCO X5 Pro✅ Yes, only on MIUI 14)Requires a camera upgrade to version 6.1.012+
Xiaomi 13 Lite❌ No.Only through third-party applications
Redmi 10C✅ Yes.The option is hidden in “Additional settings”

Important: Some devices will only display the date in Pro Mode. Try switching to this mode and checking your settings again.

Method 2: Use of the EXIF-Data (Hidden Meta-Information)

Even if the date is not visible in the photo, it is stored in the EXIF-metadata: can be viewed or exported using standard and third-party tools.

How to watch EXIF on Xiaomi without apps

  1. Open the gallery and select a photo.
  2. Tap the “i” icon** (information) in the bottom menu.
  3. Scroll down to the Details block.** There will be date, time, camera model and other settings.

To put a date on a photo from EXIF, use applications like Photo Exif Editor or EXIF Viewer by Fluntro.

  • 📅 Extract date from metadata and add it as text to image.
  • 🔄 Change the display format (e.g, DD.MM.YYYY or MM/DD/YY).
  • 🎨 Select font, color and position of the inscription.
📊 How often do you check? EXIF-photo-report?

Sometimes, if necessary.
Always, before publication
I don't know what it is.

⚠️ Note: When cropping or editing photos through third-party apps (such as Snapseed or Lightroom) EXIF-The data can be deleted. Always keep the originals!

Method 3: Third-party applications for adding date

If the built-in features don't work, install one of the specialized applications. We tested 5 popular solutions and selected the best ones:

AnnexRatings.PlusesCons
DateStamp4.7 ⭐100+ fonts, support for Russian language, batch modeAdvertising in the free version
Photo Stamp Camera4.5 ⭐Automatic addition of date when shootingPaid stickers
Add Text on Photo4.3 ⭐Flexible position and style settingsA complex interface for beginners

Step-by-step instructions for DateStamp

  1. Download DateStamp from Google Play and open it.
  2. Click “Select Photos” and import files from the gallery.
  3. In the Text section, select the variable {date} or {datetime}.

💡

If the date on the photo is too small, increase the font size to 24-30 pt and add shadow ("Shadow of text" in the settings) for better readability.

Method 4: Automatically add date via Tasker (for advanced)

If you want to add a date automatically every time you shoot, use Tasker, an Android action automation app that requires customization skills but gives you maximum flexibility.

What you need:

  • 📱 Tasker App (paid, ~200 ₽).
  • 🔧 AutoInput plugin (to simulate clicks).
  • 📁 Folder for processed photos (for example, DCIM/Stamped).

Instructions:

  1. Create a new task in Tasker with the trigger “Event → Plugin → AutoInput → UI Event” (select a photo shooting event).
  2. Add the action “Plugin → AutoInput → Text”** and enter the date format (for example, %DATE ~%TIME).

Example of code for Tasker
Profile: Photo Taken (31) Event: AutoInput UI Event [Configuration:Apps:com.android.camera Package:com.android.camera Class:com.android.camera.Camera Activity:com.android.camera.Camera] Task: Stamp Date (32) A1: Variable Set [ Name:%date_to_stamp To:%DATE ~ %TIME Do Maths:Off Append:Off ] A2: AutoInput Text [ Configuration:Text: %date_to_stamp Timeout (Seconds):20 ] A3: Image Manipulation [ Configuration:Image Path: %ef(1) Text: %date_to_stamp Position: Top Right Text Size: 24 Text Color: #FFFFFFFF Background Color: #FF000000 Outline Color: #FF000000 Font: Default Bold: On Italic: Off Shadow: On ] A4: Move [ From:%ef(1) To:DCIM/Stamped Use Root:Off ]

⚠️ Note: Tasker can slow down shooting by 1-2 seconds to process photos!

Method 5: Manually editing the date (for single photos)

If you only need to add a date to a few pictures, the easiest way to use standard editing tools is to:

  1. Open the photo in the Gallery and click "Edit".

Advantages of this method:

  • 🎯 Exact control over date location and style.
  • 🚀 No need to install third-party applications.
  • 🔄 Ability to add additional information (e.g. location).

Disadvantages:

  • ⏳ It takes a lot of time for a lot of photos.
  • 🎨 Requires design skills for accurate results.

💡

For mass photo processing (for example, after a vacation), use DateStamp or Photo Stamp Camera. For single photos, a built-in gallery editor is enough.

  1. Reset the camera settings: Settings → Apps → Camera → Storage → Clear the data.
  2. Reboot the phone.
  3. Check the availability of the option again.
Can I add a date to a photo that has already been uploaded to the cloud (Google Photos, Mi Cloud)?
No, cloud services don't allow you to edit the images themselves. You need to: Download the photo to the device. Add the date in one of the ways above. Upload it to the cloud again (it recognizes this as a new file). Exception: Google Photos saves the data. EXIF-data, but does not show it in the picture itself.
Why did the photo quality deteriorate after adding a date through the app?
This is due to re-compression. To avoid loss: Save the photo in PNG format (lossless) instead of JPEG. In the application settings, select "Maximum Quality." Use the original dimensions (don't change the resolution).
How to remove the date from the photo if it interferes?
If the date was added through the app: Open the photo in DateStamp or similar editor. Select the tool "Delete text" or "Restore the original." If the date is embedded in EXIF and is displayed in the gallery: Use the EXIF Eraser application to clean metadata. Or convert the photo to PNG (metadata will not be saved).
Does this work on the POCO F5 and other new models?
On the POCO F5 (and other 2023-2026 smartphones on MIUI 14), there is no built-in date addition feature. Use: Method 3 (third-party applications). Method 5 (manual editing). On some POCO firmware, the option appears after the camera upgrades to version 6.2.008+.
Can I automatically add a date to screenshots?
Yes, but only through Tasker (see Method 4). Alternative: Install Screenshot Touch. In the settings, enable the option "Add date." Now all screenshots will be time-stamped.
