Why Xiaomi doesn’t have a date and how to fix it
You took a picture on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5 Pro, but when you look at the shooting date, you don't see the shooting date? This is standard: by default, Xiaomi smartphones don't put a date directly on the image, although metadata (EXIF) is stored. The problem is that this data is not displayed visually - you either need to enable it in the camera settings or add a software version.
In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to add a date to the photo: from built-in MIUI functions to third-party applications. Note: methods differ depending on the model and firmware version. For example, on Xiaomi 13 Ultra with MIUI 14, the path to settings may differ from Redmi 10A with MIUI 12.5. We took these nuances into account and provided current screenshots for the latest versions of the software.
Before you start, check:
- 📱 Version MIUI: Settings → The phone. → Version. MIUI. If you MIUI 12 or older, all methods from the article will fit.
- 📷 Camera version: Update it via Google Play if available.
- 🔄 Firmware Region: on Global Versions (MIUI Global) some functions may not be available.
Critical information: On Xiaomi smartphones with a Qualcomm chipset (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro+), the date can only be added through third-party applications - the built-in feature works only on devices with MediaTek processors (for example, POCO M5).
Method 1: Include date in Xiaomi’s standard camera settings
The easiest method is to activate the date display directly in the Camera app, but it is not available on all models.
- Open the Camera app.
- Touch the badge. ⚙️ «Settings"** (usually in upper right corner).
- Scroll down to the Watermark or Time Marks section.
If there is no such item, then your model does not support the function at the firmware level, in which case move on to methods 2-5.
☑️ What to do if the camera settings do not have the option "Date"
| Xiaomi model | Support for built-in date | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | ✅ Yes. | Function in the section "Watermark" |
| POCO X5 Pro | ✅ Yes, only on MIUI 14) | Requires a camera upgrade to version 6.1.012+ |
| Xiaomi 13 Lite | ❌ No. | Only through third-party applications |
| Redmi 10C | ✅ Yes. | The option is hidden in “Additional settings” |
Important: Some devices will only display the date in Pro Mode. Try switching to this mode and checking your settings again.
Method 2: Use of the EXIF-Data (Hidden Meta-Information)
Even if the date is not visible in the photo, it is stored in the EXIF-metadata: can be viewed or exported using standard and third-party tools.
How to watch EXIF on Xiaomi without apps
- Open the gallery and select a photo.
- Tap the “i” icon** (information) in the bottom menu.
- Scroll down to the Details block.** There will be date, time, camera model and other settings.
To put a date on a photo from EXIF, use applications like Photo Exif Editor or EXIF Viewer by Fluntro.
- 📅 Extract date from metadata and add it as text to image.
- 🔄 Change the display format (e.g, DD.MM.YYYY or MM/DD/YY).
- 🎨 Select font, color and position of the inscription.
⚠️ Note: When cropping or editing photos through third-party apps (such as Snapseed or Lightroom) EXIF-The data can be deleted. Always keep the originals!
Method 3: Third-party applications for adding date
If the built-in features don't work, install one of the specialized applications. We tested 5 popular solutions and selected the best ones:
| Annex | Ratings. | Pluses | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| DateStamp | 4.7 ⭐ | 100+ fonts, support for Russian language, batch mode | Advertising in the free version |
| Photo Stamp Camera | 4.5 ⭐ | Automatic addition of date when shooting | Paid stickers |
| Add Text on Photo | 4.3 ⭐ | Flexible position and style settings | A complex interface for beginners |
Step-by-step instructions for DateStamp
- Download DateStamp from Google Play and open it.
- Click “Select Photos” and import files from the gallery.
- In the Text section, select the variable {date} or {datetime}.
💡
If the date on the photo is too small, increase the font size to 24-30 pt and add shadow ("Shadow of text" in the settings) for better readability.
Method 4: Automatically add date via Tasker (for advanced)
If you want to add a date automatically every time you shoot, use Tasker, an Android action automation app that requires customization skills but gives you maximum flexibility.
What you need:
- 📱 Tasker App (paid, ~200 ₽).
- 🔧 AutoInput plugin (to simulate clicks).
- 📁 Folder for processed photos (for example, DCIM/Stamped).
Instructions:
- Create a new task in Tasker with the trigger “Event → Plugin → AutoInput → UI Event” (select a photo shooting event).
- Add the action “Plugin → AutoInput → Text”** and enter the date format (for example, %DATE ~%TIME).
Example of code for Tasker
⚠️ Note: Tasker can slow down shooting by 1-2 seconds to process photos!
Method 5: Manually editing the date (for single photos)
If you only need to add a date to a few pictures, the easiest way to use standard editing tools is to:
- Open the photo in the Gallery and click "Edit".
Advantages of this method:
- 🎯 Exact control over date location and style.
- 🚀 No need to install third-party applications.
- 🔄 Ability to add additional information (e.g. location).
Disadvantages:
- ⏳ It takes a lot of time for a lot of photos.
- 🎨 Requires design skills for accurate results.
💡
For mass photo processing (for example, after a vacation), use DateStamp or Photo Stamp Camera. For single photos, a built-in gallery editor is enough.
