You took a photo on your Xiaomi, but the result was disappointing: was the image blurred, fuzzy or βsoapyβ? This problem is familiar to many owners of smartphones of the brand β from budget Redmi to flagship Xiaomi 13/14. The causes of blur can be different: from incorrect camera settings to hardware module limitations or software processing errors.
In this article, we will discuss 7 proven ways to restore clarity to your images β both before shooting (camera setting, mode selection) and after (editing and restoring). You will learn what parameters affect sharpness the most, how to avoid soap in low light conditions, and what applications will help save already damaged frames. And also β why some Xiaomi models blur appears even with perfect focus, and how to fix it through the engineering menu.
Important: The methods are suitable for all modern smartphones of the brand, including the Redmi Note series, POCO, Xiaomi Civi and flagship models. If your device is released before 2018, some features (for example, the first time you have a smartphone, AI-processing) may not be available β we will warn you about this separately.
1.Check out the basic Xiaomi camera settings
The most common blurring is due to incorrectly selected shooting parameters, starting with the basic settings that can be changed directly in the standard Camera app:
- πΈ Photo resolution: go to Camera Settings β Resolution and select the maximum value (for example, 50 MP or 108 MP for flagships). 9A, POCO M3) Only 12 MPs can be available, which is normal.
- π Focus Mode: In the same settings, find Focus and set Continuous Autofocus (AF-C) for dynamic scenes or a one-time (AF-S) static.
- π Exposition and HDR: Turn off the car-HDR, if the shooting is conducted in contrast lighting (for example, against the sun), this mode can artificially blur the details during processing.
Pay special attention to the setting of the scene or AI-Xiaomi algorithms sometimes misidentify the type of scene (e.g., mistaking a portrait for "night mode"), leading to incorrect processing. AI In settings or manually select the Professional mode (Pro).
If you still have a blur after the changes, move on to the next step, but first check if you have Beauty Mode on, which often smooths out textures (like skin or tissues), creating a plasticity effect.
2. Clean the lens and check the hardware condition
A common but common cause of blurring is a contaminated lens. On Xiaomi smartphones, the lenses protrude above the body, so they quickly become covered with fingerprints, dust or greasy marks.
- Use a microfiber wipe (for example, for glasses) or special wet wipes for optics. Do not use alcohol, acetone or coarse fabrics!
- If the dirt has eaten, lightly moisten the napkin with distilled water or screen cleaning solution (without harsh chemicals).
- For hard-to-reach places (for example, between camera modules), use a soft brush or compressed air (a canister).
Also check the body for mechanical damage:
- π§ Cracks on the lens glass (even microscopic) can scatter light.
- π± If the phone fell, check if the camera is not a backlash - this is a sign of damage to the mounting module.
- π‘οΈ Overheating of the device (for example, after games) can temporarily impair focusing due to thermal expansion of the lenses.
π‘
To check if the lens is broken, point the camera at a light source (for example, a lamp), if you see iridescent severances or distortions, the lens is damaged.
If the blur is still there after cleaning and there is no damage, the problem may be the software processing, and this is discussed in the next section.
3. Turn off aggressive photo processing
Xiaomi is known for actively applying post-processing algorithms to photos: noise reduction, sharpening, color correction. Sometimes these algorithms work too aggressively, which leads to artifacts (for example, a soap effect or blurred edges).
To disable unnecessary processing:
- Open the Camera app and go to Settings β Additionally.
- Find the items: Improving photos β turn off; AI-camera AI-scene β shut off; noise suppression β Set on Low or Off; Contrast/Saturation β drop to zero.

If you use third-party apps (like Open Camera or Footage), check their settings for similar options. Itβs also worth updating the camera firmware β sometimes blurring appears after updates. MIUI because of algorithm bugs.

4. Use the correct shooting modes
The choice of mode directly affects the clarity of the image. Let's consider which mode is suitable for different conditions:
| Regime. | When to use | Risks of blurring | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automobile | Daylighting, static objects | Incorrect selection of parameters AI | Turn it off. AI Hold your finger on the screen for manual focusing. |
| Portrait | People, objects with blurred backgrounds | Inaccurate segmentation of edges, "soap" on hair | Increase the distance to the object, use the rear camera |
| Night mode. | Poor lighting (evening, room) | Moving objects are made blurry | Use a tripod or support, reduce exposure time |
| Professional (Pro) | Control over ISO, squeezing, white balance | Wrong settings ISO/extraction | Install. ISO β€ 800, exposure β€ 1/30tripodless |
| Document | Text, checks, pages of books | Distortion of edges in correction of perspective | Remove strictly perpendicular, without tilting. |
You have to be especially careful with Night Mode, and many Xiaomi users complain that when you shoot in the dark, the photos are "lubricated" because of the long shutter speed, the camera picks up the slightest movement of the hands.
- π± Use a tripod or put your phone in a stable surface.
- β±οΈ In manual mode (Pro), set shutter speed no more 1/10tripodless.
- π¦ Add extra light (like another phoneβs flashlight) to shorten shutter speed.
π‘
Night mode on Xiaomi gives the best results when shooting static objects (buildings, landscapes) and only from a tripod. For moving objects, use Auto mode with flash on.
5. Restore the clarity of blurred photos
If the photo is already taken and it is blurred, the post-processing apps will help to fix the situation. We tested 5 popular tools and selected the best ones for Xiaomi:
- πΌοΈ Adobe Lightroom (free): The Sharp Mask Tool (Detail) β Sharpening.Install Amount: 50-70, Radius: 1.0-1.5, Detail: 30-50. Avoid the above values β there will be noise.
- π± Snapseed (Google): Details filter β Sharpening. Use it. +20-30% light-correct.
- π€ Remini (for portraits): It restores faces well, but can distort textures.
- π» Topaz Gigapixel AI (PC: The most powerful solution to increase resolution and remove blur, but paid.
For automated correction, try Google Photos:
- Open the blurred photo in the app.
- Press Edit. β Tools β Sharpness.
- Move the slider to the right before the artifacts appear, then reduce the value a little.
How to remove blur from the text in the photo?
Importantly, no application will return 100% clarity if the original photo is very blurry. The higher the resolution of the original, the better the result. For example, a photo at 12 MP after processing will look better than 2 MP.
6. Check the hardware limitations of your model
Some Xiaomi smartphones have design features that affect the clarity of photos.
- π± Redmi 9/9A/9C Other budget models: use cheap lenses with plastic lenses, which are more susceptible to distortion.
- π Xiaomi with a telephoto camera (for example, Mi 11 Ultra): when shooting with zoom >5x There is a lack of clarity due to digital increase.
- π Older models (until 2019): may not support modern focusing algorithms (e.g. Laser) AF or Phase Detection).
To see if blurring is a hardware problem, do a test:
- Take a photo in Pro mode with manual settings: ISO: 100 Excerpt: 1/1000With Focus: manual focusing (MF)
- If even with such parameters, the photo is blurry, the problem is in the lens or matrix.
- If the photo is clear, the settings or software processing are to blame.
π‘
On multi-camera models (wide-angle, telephoto) check each one separately. Often blurring only appears on the extra modules, and the main camera works normally.
If the test showed a hardware problem, there are two options:
- Contact the Xiaomi service center (warranty repair is possible in case of factory defect).
- Use an external camera (for example, USB-webcam OTG).
7. Reset the camera settings or stitch the module
If all previous methods failed, the problem may lie in the system files of the camera, in which case the reset or flashing will help:
Method 1: Resetting camera settings
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the Camera, open the Warehouse and click Clear Data.
- Reboot the phone.
Method 2: Reinstall the camera firmware (for advanced users)
- π± Download stock firmware for your model from the official Xiaomi website (Support section).
- π§ Use Fastboot or Recovery to install (instructions are available on the forums) 4PDA or XDA).
- β οΈ Warning: Wrong firmware can knock your phone out!
Method 3: Engineering menu (for experienced ones only!)
In some Xiaomi models, you can manually calibrate the focus through the engineering menu:
- Dial in the dialer: ##36446337## (for MTK) or #4636### for Snapdragon).
- Go to the Hardware Testing β Camera section.
- Find the parameters. AF Calibration or Lens Shading and perform reset.
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
If after all the manipulations blurred, most likely, the problem in the hardware (for example, the autofocus sensor failed), in this case, only repair will help.
