Watermarks, a date or a Xiaomi logo can ruin even the best photo in photos, and itβs especially annoying when you want to share or type a picture on social media β unnecessary labels spoil the composition and look unprofessional. Fortunately, there are several ways to disable these signatures on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones, and most of them do not require root rights or complex manipulation.
The problem is complicated by the fact that in different versions MIUI (12 to 14) and on different models, the path to settings may be different, the option is hidden somewhere in the camera menu, and somewhere you need to look for it in the system settings. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, from standard settings to hidden functions and third-party applications. You will also learn why a signature may reappear after an update and how to avoid it.
Why does the photo appear and can it be removed forever?
The captions on the photos are not a bug, they're a feature, and manufacturers add them for a couple of reasons:
- π Date and time β convenient for sorting photos in the gallery, but spoils the appearance of the pictures.
- π·οΈ Logo. Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco β marketing move to emphasize the brand.
- π Watermark with model device β found on some firmware (for example, on Xiaomi) 12T Pro or Redmi Note 11 Pro+).
- π± Serial number or IMEI β rarely, but it happens on custom firmware.
The good news: on all Xiaomi smartphones MIUI 12 and a newer signature can be removed without root rights, except for some regional firmware (for example, for India or China), where the option can be blocked, in such cases, resetting the camera settings or installing a global version will help. MIUI.
The bad news is that when you update your system, your settings may reset and the watermark will return, which is because Xiaomi sometimes compulsorily includes signatures in new versions of the software. To avoid this, check your camera settings after you update and turn off the watermarks again if necessary.
Method 1: Disabling the watermark in the camera settings (MIUI 12-14)
The easiest and safest method is to use the camera appβs built-in settings. It works on most modern devices, including the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Redmi Note 12 and Poco. F5. Instructions:
- Open the Camera app.
- Touch the badge. βοΈ Settings (usually in the upper right corner).
- Scroll down to the Watermark or Signature section of the photo (the name may differ).
- Turn off the slider next to the Add Watermark option.
- If you have separate settings for date, logo, or model, turn them off too.
On some devices (e.g. Redmi) 9A POCO M4 Pro) the path may be slightly different:

If you're in your version MIUI There's no watermarked item, try another method, and note that some firmware may have a different name for the option, such as:
- Date signature (on Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite)
- Time stamp (on Redmi) K50),
- Xiaomi branding (on some global versions).
β οΈ Note: On custom firmware devices (e.g. Xiaomi.eu or Pixel Experience), the path to settings may be drastically different. In such cases, look for the option under the Camera Advanced Settings section or use the reset method (see below).
Method 2: Reset the camera settings to factory
If the watermark does not turn off via the menu or the option is simply missing, try resetting the camera settings.
- π Settings went down after the update MIUI.
- π± The device was purchased from hand and the previous owner changed the configuration.
- π€ There are conflicting applications in the system (e.g. GCam or other modified cameras).
Resetting instructions:
- Open the smartphone settings.
- Go to the Apps β Application management.
- Find the Camera app and open its settings.
- Select Warehouse β Clear data and Clear cache.
- Confirm the action (this wonβt delete your photos, just reset the camera settings).
- Reboot your smartphone.
Once you reboot, open the camera and check if the watermark has disappeared. If not, try going to the camera settings and disable the signature again. Sometimes resetting helps unlock hidden options.
π‘
If the watermark is gone after reset, but you have lost other camera settings (for example, manual shooting parameters), take screenshots in advance or write them down in a notebook.

Method 3: Use of third-party cameras (GCam, Open Camera)
If Xiaomi's built-in camera is persistently adding watermarks, and standard methods don't help, install a third-party app to shoot.
- πΈ Google Camera (GCam) is a ported version of the camera from Pixel, supports most Xiaomi smartphones. 4PDA or XDA Developers (Look for a version for your model!).
- π Open Camera is open source with wide settings, no watermarks. Available on Google Play.
- π₯ Footage β camera for professional shooting, allows you to disable all tags.
Instructions for GCam:
- Download and install. APK-file (e.g. GCam by) BSG or GCam by Urnyx05).
- Open the app and go to Settings β Photo settings.
- Find the Watermark or Tagged option and turn it off.
- Some versions of GCam do not have watermarks by default.
Advantages of third-party cameras:
- β No forced watermarks.
- β Best quality of images (especially in GCam).
- β More manual settings (exposure, ISO, white-colour).
Disadvantages:
- β Not all main camera features can work (e.g. Professional Mode or Night Mode).
- β On some models, the Xiaomi GCam may not support all modules (e.g. telephoto or macro).
β οΈ Attention: Installation APK Unverified sources may harm your device (4PDA, XDA) Check user feedback on your model, and allow installation from unknown sources in your security settings before installation.

- πΌοΈ Snapseed (from Google) β Free Editor with Fix Tool That Deletes Small Objects.
- π¨ Adobe Photoshop Express β patch or cloning feature will help remove inscriptions.
- π± TouchRetouch β specializes in removing unnecessary elements from photos.
- π» GIMP (for PC) - a full-fledged analogue of Photoshop with support for layers.
Step-by-step instructions for Snapseed:
- Open the photo in the app.
- Select the tool Correction (Brush icon).
- Increase the scale and circle the watermark.
- Click Remove β the algorithm will replace the selected area with close pixels.
- If necessary, adjust the size of the brush and the stiffness for the best result.
- Save the edited photo.
For complex cases (for example, if you have a watermark on a contrasting background), use Photoshop Express:
Open photo β Tools β Cloning β Select a clean area next to a watermark β Color over the inscriptionπ‘
When editing, save the original photo! Many apps (like Snapseed) allow you to export the edited version without erasing the source, which is useful if the result is not satisfied.
If the watermark is large or colored (such as the Xiaomi logo on a bright background), it is better to use it. GIMP PC-only:
- Open the photo in GIMP.
- Create a new layer (Layer) β New layer).
- Use the Cloning tool (C hotkey) to color over the watermark.
- Apply blur or color correction if you need to merge the fixes with the background.
Method 5: Modifying system files (for advanced users)
If all previous methods failed and the watermark appears on all photos (including screenshots and other camera images), the problem may be at the system level. MIUI, but it requires:
- π Root rights (or temporary unlocker via Magisk).
- π Knowledge of working with the Android file system.
- π Backup of data (in case of failure).
Instructions for root devices:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Mixplorer).
- Cross the path: /system/media/theme/default/watermark/ or (for new versions) MIUI): /system/priv-app/MiuiCamera/MiuiCamera.apk/res/drawable/
- Find files with watermarks (usually watermark.png or watermark). mi_watermark.png).
- Rename them to watermark.png.bak or delete them (pre-make a copy!).
- Reboot your smartphone.
For devices without root, you can try using ADB:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm /system/media/theme/default/watermark/watermark.png
mount -o ro,remount /system
rebootβ οΈ Note: Editing system files can cause camera crash, cyclical reboot or loss of warranty. Before changes, create a full backup through TWRP Or OrangeFox Recovery. If the camera stopped working after you deleted the files, return them or reinstall them. MIUI via Fastboot.
An alternative method for advanced users is to install a custom module called Magisk, which turns off watermarks at the system level.
- MIUI Watermark Remover (working on the MIUI 12-14),
- Disable MIUI Camera Watermark (for older versions).
How to install the Magisk module?
What to do if the watermark returns after the update
Many Xiaomi users are faced with the fact that after the update MIUI The watermark reappears even if it's been turned off, and that's because the system resets some of the camera settings to the factory settings, to avoid the problem:
- π Turn off automatic updates MIUI (Check the camera settings after each update).
- π± Use a third-party camera (such as GCam) as your primary camera.
- π§ Install Magisk module that blocks forced addition of watermarks.
- π Create a script to automatically disable (for root users).
If the watermark is back, follow the following steps:
- Check the camera settings (the option may have turned on again).
- Clear the Camera application data and cache (see Method 2).
- If it doesnβt help, reset the camera settings to the factory (Settings) β Annexes β Camera. β Warehouse β Clear the data).
- In the extreme, go back to the previous version. MIUI (If you know that there was no watermark on it).
On some firmware (for example, Xiaomi for the Indian market), a watermark is added at the core level, and it can only be turned off by flashing it to a global or European version. MIUI. Check if your model supports the change of region:
