Photos from Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco smartphones often spoil watermarks with the brand name — especially if you want to post a picture on social networks or type it «AI-camera"), but it can be removed as standard means MIUI, and with the help of third-party tools.
Many users mistakenly think that the watermark is embedded in the image itself at the pixel level, but in fact it is just metadata that is superimposed on top of the image when viewed. This means that the original photo remains intact - you just need to export it correctly. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways for MIUI 12-14, including hidden camera settings, editing through Google Photos and even manual deletion through ADB.
If you've never been through metadata editing, don't worry: most methods don't require technical skills. However, some solutions (such as turning off watermarks through an engineering menu) may vary depending on the smartphone model and firmware version. On Global ROM devices, the option to disable the watermark is often hidden, and must be activated through hidden settings.
1. Disabling the watermark in Xiaomi camera settings
The easiest way to do this is to deactivate the automatic addition of the label directly in the Camera app, which works on most devices with MIUI 12 and later, but may not be available on budget models or Chinese firmware (China ROM).
Instructions:
- Open the Camera app.
- Touch the badge «⚙️ Settings" (usually in the upper right corner).
- Scroll down to the Watermark section (or Watermark in English firmware).
- Transfer the slider to the "Off" position.
If you don't have a Watermark option on the menu, your model doesn't support that option at the interface level, so try the other methods in this article.
Check the version of MIUI (Settings → About the phone)
Update the Camera app to the latest version
Backup of important photos
Reboot your smartphone before changing your settings-->
⚠️ Note: On some devices (e.g. Redmi Note 9 Pro with a MIUI (13) the watermark option appears only when filming in Documents mode, or «AI-Try switching between modes to find hidden settings.
2. Delete the inscription through the editor Google Photos
If a watermark is already added to a photo, it can be removed using the built-in Google Photos editor, which does not remove metadata, but simply crops or paints the inscription, so it is suitable for single shots.
Step-by-step:
- Open the photo in Google Photos and click “Edit” (pencil icon).
- Select the "Pruning" tool» (✂️) and trim the edge with the Xiaomi inscription (if it is located on the corner).
- If pruning is not possible, use the Retouch tool» (🎨) → «Paint in" to manually remove text.
- Save the modified version as a copy (the original will remain intact).
The disadvantage of this method is the loss of part of the image during cropping or imperfect quality during retouching. For batch processing, it is better to use specialized applications (see the next section).
💡
If the Xiaomi label is located in the center of the photo, try the “Blurr” tool in Google Photos – it will make the text less noticeable without spoiling the rest of the picture.
Third-party applications for watermark removal
We've tested some popular solutions to remove text from photos, and we've selected those that don't spoil image quality or require root rights.
- 📱 Snapseed (Google) is a free editor with a tool called "Healing" for point deleting text.
- 🖼️ Remove Watermark (from Binh Nguyen) – automatically finds and removes watermarks with a package of photos. There is a restriction on the free version (5 photos per day).
- 💻 PhotoRoom – convenient for removing inscriptions from background areas (for example, if the text is on a monotonous background).
Example of work in Snapseed:
- Open the photo in the app and select the “Healing” tool.
- Swipe around the Xiaomi inscription with your finger – the algorithm will automatically fill the area with the texture of the background.
- Adjust the “Brush Size” and “Toughness” if necessary for precise processing.
- Save the result to the gallery.
⚠️ Note: Some applications (such as InShot's Watermark Remover) leave artifacts in place of deleted text. Always check the result at 100% zoom before saving.
| Annex | Free version | Package processing | Quality of the result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snapseed | Yes (no restrictions) | No. | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Remove Watermark | Yes (5 photos/day) | Yes. | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| PhotoRoom | Yeah (watermarked) | No. | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Adobe Photoshop Express | Yes (basic functions) | No. | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
4. Manual removal via ADB (for power users)
If standard methods do not help, you can disable watermarks at the system level using the ADB-This method requires connecting a smartphone to a PC and basic knowledge of working with Android Debug Bridge.
Instructions:
- Turn on Developer Mode on your smartphone: go to Settings → About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Return to Settings → Additional → For developers and activate “Debugging by USB”.
- Connect your phone to your PC, install ADB Tools, and execute the command: adb shell settings put global. camera_watermark_enabled 0
- Reset the device.
Once this command is completed, watermarks will no longer be added to new photos, and you will need to use editing for old photos (see section 2 or 3).
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
5. Resetting camera settings to factory
If the watermarks are created after the MIUI update or third-party modifications are installed, resetting the camera settings will help, and this method will not delete your photos, but will return all shooting parameters to the default state.
How to reset your settings:
- Open the Camera app.
- Go to Settings → Reset settings (or Restore defaults in English firmware).
- Confirm the action.
After reset, check if the watermark option is still on the menu. If so, turn it off (see section 1). If not, no watermarks will be added.
⚠️ Note: On some firmware (China) ROM Resetting camera settings can result in resetting all user color profiles (such as “Cinematic” or “Vivid.
6. Alternative methods: shooting in third-party cameras
If none of these methods worked, the last option is to use third-party photography apps that don’t add watermarks.
- 📸 GCam (Google Camera) - ported version of the camera from Google Pixel with advanced settings. HDR+ Night Sight, but requires the right configuration for your model.
- 🎥 Open Camera – Open source with manual settings ISO, It's a shutter speed and white balance, doesn't add any labels to the photo.
- 🖼️ ProCam X – a paid application with support RAW and professional shooting tools.
To avoid compatibility issues, download GCam only from trusted sources (like Celso Azevedo).
💡
Shooting in GCam can give better quality photos than a standard Xiaomi camera, but requires fine-tuning the configuration file (.xml) for your model.
