Xiaomi DVRs (including the 70mai Dash Cam, MiVue 796, and others) record video in a secure format that canβt be simply copied as a regular file. Many users find that when you connect the recorder to your computer, the memory card is displayed empty or files are not readable. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of downloading video, from official (via the application) to alternative (via the card reader).
Important: the methods vary depending on the recorder model and firmware version. For example, the Xiaomi 70mai Pro+ supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi transmission, and the budget models of the MiVue C200 only via cable. We will specify the features for each line.
Method 1: via the official Mi Home or 70mai app
The most reliable method is to use proprietary software. Mi Home (for Mijia series registrars) and 70mai (for the line of the same name) applications allow you not only to download videos, but also to configure recording parameters, update firmware and view recordings in real time.
Step-by-step:
- Install the app: π± Mi Home for Android/IOS π 70mai Android/IOS
- Connect the Registrar to Wi-Fi: Turn on Wi-Fi on the Registrar (Wi-Fi button or in the Settings menu) β Wireless network: Connect to the logger network (type name) on your phone 70mai_XXXX or MiVue_XXXX).
- In the app: Click Add Device β select DVR. Follow the on-screen instructions (you may need to enter a password from the sticker on the case). After connecting, go to Gallery or Records. Select video β Click Down (cloud icon with a down arrow).
Important: 70mai automatically converts video to MP4 when downloaded, whereas the original files on the memory card can be in.MOV or.TS (streaming video) format.
Wi-Fi on the registrar
The phone is connected to the registrar network (not to home Wi-Fi!)
The latest update of the application has been installed
There is enough free space on the phone (video weighs ~100 MB / min)

Method 2: Direct Wi-Fi transmission without internet
If you donβt have access to Xiaomi apps (like your work phone), you can download videos directly over the local network, which works for most models except the MiVue C100 and C200 (which have stripped down Wi-Fi functionality).
Algorithm of action:
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the registrar and connect your phone/laptop to it (the password is usually indicated on the case or in the instructions).
- Open your browser and enter the address: For 70mai: http://192.168.10.1 For MiVue 796/798: http://192.168.8.1

The transmission speed depends on the model:
- π 70mai Pro+, MiVue 798: Up to 15 MB/s (Wi-Fi 5 GHz).
- π’ MiVue C200, 70mai Midrive D06: up to 3 MB/s (Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz).
β οΈ Note: Some registrars (e.g. Xiaomi Mijia) 1S) They block access to the web interface after 3 failed attempts to enter a password. RESET case.
π‘
If the web interface doesn't open, try another browser (like Firefox instead of Chrome) or disable the VPN.Some registrar models block access when a proxy is detected.
Method 3: Connecting to a PC through USB-cable!)
It would seem that the easiest way to connect the recorder to the computer is via USB β but there are pitfalls here. Most Xiaomi models when connected to a PC are displayed as Media Device (MTP), not as a removable disk.
- π₯οΈ Videos can only be viewed through the built-in player (e.g. Windows Media Player).
- π« Files cannot be copied in the standard way (through a conductor).
- π§ You need to use special software or turn on the mass storage mode.
How to turn on the removable disk mode:
- Connect the Registrar to your PC via USB (use the original cable!).
- The Registrar will be asked to select the connection mode β Choose Mass Storage or USB-accumulator.
- If you do not have a request, go to the Registrar menu: Settings β Connection β USB Mode β Mass Storage
- The memory card will then appear as a removable disk (e.g., E: or F:).
| Registrar's model | Does it support Mass Storage? | Do you need software to copy? | Max, transmission speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 70mai Pro/Pro+ | β Yes, on the menu) | β No. | ~20 MB/s (USB 3.0) |
| MiVue 796/798 | β Yes (automatically) | β No. | ~15 MB/s (USB 2.0) |
| Xiaomi Mijia 1S | β No. | β Yes. PC Suite) | ~5 MB/s (MTP) |
| 70mai Midrive D06 | β Yes, after the update) | β No. | ~10 MB/s (USB 2.0) |
β οΈ Note: If the registrar is not identified on the PC, check: π Whether the original cable is used (not all) USB-cables support data transmission). π Try another one. USB-port (preferably) USB 3.0 blue). π§ Update chipset drivers on PC (especially relevant for Windows) 7/8).
Method 4: Xiaomi Cloud Storage (Restrictions and Tariffs)
70mai and MiVue 4G/LTE registrars (such as the 70mai Pro Plus+ or MiVue 798 LTE) can automatically upload video to the Xiaomi Cloud, which is convenient for remote access, but there are limitations:
- π¦ Free rate: 5 GB of storage, video stored for 7 days.
- π° Paid fares: 50 GB - 99 β½/Mos. 200 GB - 299 β½/moss.
- β‘ Download speed: Depends on the quality of the connection 4G (average 2-5 MB/s).
How to download video from the cloud:
- Open the 70mai or Mi Home app.
- Go to the Cloud. β My notes.
- Select video β click Download (the arrow icon down).
- The video will be saved to the phone gallery in the Xiaomi/Cloud folder.
Important: the cloud only stores event videos (accidents, braking) and does not keep a continuous record. To download all videos, you must manually mark them as "important" in the registrar settings:
Settings β Cloud β Autoboot β Select βAll VideosβHow to reduce traffic consumption when uploading to the cloud?
Method 5: Retrieving a memory card and reading on another device
If other methods don't work, you can take the microSD card out of the recorder and read it on your phone, PC, or tablet.
- π Videos are stored in folders by date: DCIM β 100MEDIA record.
- π Files can be in formats.MOV,.MP4 or.TS (streaming).
- π Some models (MiVue 798) encrypt video β they can not be read without a recorder.
Step-by-step:
- Turn off the recorder (Power button or hold the Menu for 3 seconds).
- Remove the microSD card (the compartment is usually on the side or bottom).
- Put the map in: π₯οΈ Card reader on PC (recommended) USB 3.0 for speed). π± MicroSD adapter β USB-C telephone.
DCIM
Record
β οΈ Note: MicroSD cards in Xiaomi registrars are often formatted in the FAT32, which does not support files anymore 4 GB: If the video is long, the recorder automatically breaks it down into pieces (e.g., a video that is long, VID_20260501_123456_01.MOV, VID_20260501_123456_02.MOV). To glue them together, use programs like FFmpeg or MP4Joiner.

Removing a memory card is the most versatile method, but it requires caution: do not remove the card during writing (the risk of damaging the file system).
Common Problems and Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
When downloading videos from Xiaomi registrars, users encounter typical errors.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Videos are not downloaded via Wi-Fi | Weak signal or IP conflict | Bring your phone closer to the registrar or reset the network (Settings β Wi-Fi β Reset) |
| Memory card is not readable on PC | ExFAT format or file system damage | Format the card in the registrar (Settings β Format) |
| Video is played without sound | The microphone is off in the settings. | Turn on the sound recording: Settings β Audio β On. |
| The app doesn't see the registrar | Outdated firmware or software version | Update your firmware through Settings β Update and App in App Store/Google Play |
Additional advice:
- π If the video is βtearedβ or slows down, try converting it through HandBrake (free software).
- π‘ To speed up Wi-Fi transmission, turn off mobile data on your phone β this will reduce interference.
- π οΈ If the registrar does not turn on after the card is removed, check the contacts (possibly the connector has moved away).
