Why you need screenshots on Redmi 7 and what to do if they donβt work
Screenshots on Xiaomi Redmi 7 are a basic feature that is hard to do without: saving important correspondence, fixing errors in applications, creating memes or proof for controversial situations. However, even such a simple operation has nuances. For example, users often find that screenshots do not save in the gallery, disappear from the quick settings menu or the button Volume down + Power does not work. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to create screens on Redmi 7 (including models with MIUI 10, 11 and 12 firmware), as well as solve typical problems.
Redmi 7 features 5 screenshot techniques, from the classic button combination to voice commands and gestures, but not all of them work out of the box. For example, Three-toed swipe is disabled by default, and Quick Ball requires pre-setting, and we will describe each method in detail, specify the limitations and give tips on how to return screenshots if they suddenly stopped saving.
Method 1: Classic button combination (Loudness down + Power)
Itβs a versatile method that works on all Xiaomi smartphones, including the Redmi 7.
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the volume reduction button (on the left end) and the power button (on the right end).
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the sound of the camera shutter and see the animation of the screenshot.
β οΈ Warning: If you have a switch-off menu on the screen, you have held the buttons for too long. Try again, but with a shorter press.
The buttons do not stick and press clearly.|The screen is not locked (unlock your phone)|There is enough memory on the phone (screens are not saved when the storage is filled)|Do Not Disturb (it can block the shutter sound)-->
Where to look for a finished screenshot? By default, it is saved in the Gallery β Screenshots folder (or DCIM β Screenshots in the file manager). If the picture does not appear, check the permissions for the Gallery application in the settings or restart the phone.
Method 2: Three-toed swipe (gesture for screenshot)
Three-toed swipe allows you to take a screenshot with your three fingers on the screen from top to bottom, which is convenient when the power or volume buttons are not working, but by default the gesture is turned off β you need to activate it manually:
- Go to Settings β Additional β Special features β Gesture for a screenshot.
- Activate the Three-toed Swipe switch.
- Select the swipe direction (usually from top to bottom).
Now, to take a screenshot, swipe three fingers simultaneously across the screen in a given direction, and the shutter sound and animation will confirm that the shot was successfully taken.
Why isn't the gesture working?
Important: On Redmi 7 with MIUI 10 firmware, the gesture may conflict with other system functions (such as face unlock), in which case update the firmware to MIUI 11/12 or use alternative methods.
Method 3: Quick Ball (floating button)
Quick Ball is a virtual button that appears on top of any screen and gives you quick access to frequently used features, including screenshots, to customize it:
- Open the Settings. β Additionally. β Quick Ball.
- Activate the switch at the top of the screen.
- Click on Quick Ball Settings and add Screenshot to the menu (drop it from the bottom list to the top).
Now you'll see a translucent circle on the screen, and you'll click on it and you'll select Screenshot, and it'll be snapped instantly, and the advantage of this is that it works even in games and apps where the buttons are locked.
Button combination|Three-toed swipe|Quick Ball|Voice assistant|Other-->
| Method | Pluses | Cons | Works in games? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volume + power buttons | It works always, does not require adjustments. | Uncomfortable with one hand, buttons wear out | Yes. |
| Three-toed swipe | Quick, no need for buttons. | It can be triggered by accident, conflicts with gestures. | No. |
| Quick Ball | Convenient, works in most applications | Takes up space on the screen, requires adjustment | Yes. |
| Voice assistant | Without hands, useful for people with disabilities | Internet may not work in a noisy place | No. |
Method 4: Voice command via Google Assistant
If you need to take a screenshot without hands (for example, while cooking or when your hands are busy), use a voice assistant.
- Activate Google Assistant (long-term press on the Home button or voice command βOK, Googleβ).
- Say βtake a screenshotβ or βscreenshotβ.
- Confirm the action (if required).
β οΈ Note: This method only works when you connect to the Internet and the microphone is turned on, and some applications (such as banking) block screenshots from being taken through third-party services for security reasons.

If Google Assistant doesn't recognize a command, try saying it in English, "Take a screenshot." Often, this works better than the Russian versions.
Method 5: Through the notification panel (MIUI 12 and later)
In MIUI 12+, you can add a screenshot button to the notification bar, which is convenient if other methods don't work for some reason, and you can activate it.
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Click on the Edit icon (pencil in the lower right corner).
- Find the βScreenshotβ list and drag it to the active area.
Now, you'll always have a button at hand -- just swipe down and click on it, which is especially useful if you don't have physical buttons or gestures turned off.
What to do if screenshots are not saved
Sometimes screenshots are taken, but they don't show up in the gallery.
- π Screenshots folder removed: Create it manually in DCIM via file manager.
- π No permissions: Check the permissions for the Gallery and Camera apps in Settings β Annexes β Permits.
- ποΈ Lack of memory: Clear the cache or transfer files to SD-map.
- π System failure: Restart your phone or reset the settings of the Gallery app (Settings) β Annexes β gallery β Warehouse β Drop it).
If the problem persists, try using third-party screenshot apps (like Screenshot Easy or Super Screenshot) that bypass MIUI limitations and save the images to a separate folder.

On Redmi 7 with MIUI 10 firmware, screenshots may not be saved due to a permission bug. Solution: Update your firmware to MIUI 11/12 or manually assign DCIM/Screenshots permissions to write through a file manager (e.g., MiXplorer).
