Why Redmi Note 10 screenshots are different โ and how to fix it
Have you ever noticed that screenshots on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 (and its Pro and Pro versions) 5G) Can they vary in quality, format, or even cut? MIUI and the system settings. MIUI 14 screenshots are saved by default in.png format with transparency, and in older versions - in.jpg with compression artifacts. DRM-protection) block the creation of screenshots - and this is not a bug, but a security feature.
In this article, we will examine not only the standard methods (hot keys and gestures), but also little-known chips: how to take long screenshots of the pages you scrolle, where to find a hidden folder with screens, and why sometimes a screenshot turns black, and how to circumvent the restrictions in secure applications without root rights and third-party programs.
If youโve just bought a Redmi Note 10 or upgraded your firmware, check out the MIUI version: go to Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version. It depends on which methods will work on your device.
Method 1: Classic button combination (always working)
It is a versatile method that works on all Xiaomi smartphones, including the Redmi Note 10, regardless of the MIUI version.
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the power button (right) and the volume button (left) at the same time.
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the shutter sound and see the screenshot animation.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If you press the buttons too long (more than 3 seconds), you will be forced to restart or call Google Assistant.
โ๏ธ Checking before screenshot
Where to look for a finished screenshot? By default, it is saved to the DCIM โ Screenshots or Pictures โ Screenshots folder. To quickly open it, tap the screenshot notification in the curtain.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot not saved | Lack of space on the device | Clear the cache or transfer files to the memory card |
| Black screenshot. | DRM-In-app protection (e.g. Netflix) | Use Google Assistant or an external camera |
| Cut edges | Non-standard screen resolution | Turn off scaling in Settings โ Screen |
Method 2: Three-finger gesture (fastest, but you need to adjust)
In MIUI 12 and later, we have a feature for swiping three fingers across the screen, which is disabled by default, so we activate it first.
- Go to Settings โ Additional โ Special features โ Gestures.
- Find the Screenshot swipe down and turn it on.
- Choose the direction of the gesture: down or up (we recommend down - so it is more convenient).
Now, to take a screenshot, swipe your three fingers across the screen from top to bottom (or vice versa if you choose a different direction). Important: the gesture should be smooth but fast - if you lead too slowly, the system will perceive this as an accidental touch.
๐ก
If the gesture doesn't work, check if it conflicts with other gestures (such as split screens).
The advantage of this method is speed, for example, in games or videos, where the power and volume buttons are uncomfortable to press, but there is also a disadvantage: random activations if you often use multi-touch (for example, in PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact).
Method 3: Voice assistant (if the buttons are broken or hands are busy)
If you have MIUI 13/14, you can take a voice screenshot without touching a single thing.
- Activate Google Assistant (should be enabled by default).
- Say, โOK Google, take a screenshotโ or โTake a screenshot.โ
- Confirm the command (if required).
โ ๏ธ Note: This method does not work in content-protected applications (e.g. Sberbank Online or Tinkoff) and requires an internet connection to recognize voice.
The alternative is to use Xiaomiโs built-in voice assistant (if installed).
- Open Settings โ Voice Assistant Xiao AI.
- Turn on the function and allow access to the screen.
- Say โXiao AI, screenshotโ (in Chinese firmware) or โTake a screenshotโ (in global).
Method 4: Long screenshot (for web pages and chats)
If you want to capture not only the visible part of the screen, but also what is below (for example, a long chat in Telegram or an article in the browser), use the Scrolling Screenshot feature. It works in most applications, except for social networks with dynamic content (for example, Instagram or TikTok).
Instructions:
- Take a regular screenshot of any of the above methods.
- Immediately after the thumbnail appears, the screenshot in the lower right corner tap on it.
- In the editor that opens, click on the Scrolling icon (two arrows down).
- Wait until the system automatically scrolls through the page and connects the parts into one long screenshot.
โ ๏ธ Note: In some apps (e.g. VKontakte), a long screenshot may crop the bottom, in which case try taking a few regular screenshots and pasting them manually in the Google Photos or Collage Maker app.
Why does scroll work in some applications?
Method 5: Party of application (if standard methods do not fit)
If the built-in features of Redmi Note 10 do not suit you (for example, you need to edit screenshots immediately after creation or automatically upload them to the cloud), try third-party utilities. MIUI:
- ๐ฑ Screen Master โ allows you to swipe screenshots on the notification panel, adds markup tools.
- ๐จ Screenshot Touch โ Supports gestures, screen recording and automatic booting in Google Drive.
- ๐ Super Screenshot โ can bypass locks in some secure applications (but not all!).
โ ๏ธ Warning: When installing third-party screenshot apps, allow them to access Overlay over other windows and Screen Reading in security settings.
If you choose a third-party app, pay attention to:
- ๐ Security: Check reviews and permissions (some utilities may collect data).
- ๐ฅ Weight: Avoid heavy programs (optimally up to 10MB).
- ๐ฏ Functional: do you need additional features (for example, recording video from the screen).
Where are screenshots stored and how to transfer them to the computer
By default, all screenshots on the Redmi Note 10 are saved in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots/or (in some firmware):
/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Screenshots/To find them quickly:
- Open the Gallery app.
- Go to the Screenshots album (usually created automatically).
- To sort by date, tap on the icon "Filter" (in the upper right corner).
To transfer screenshots to your computer:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Po Po Po USB: Connect your phone to your PC, select File Transfer Mode and copy the Screenshots folder.
- โ๏ธ Cloud: Upload files to Google Drive or Mi Cloud (Xiaomiโs built-in cloud).
- ๐ง Mail / messenger: send yourself screenshots via Telegram (without loss of quality) or email.
๐ก
If screenshots are missing (disappeared) from the gallery, check if Hide System Folders is enabled in the file manager settings, and they can be automatically archived in Google Photos (if sync is enabled).
Frequent mistakes and how to fix them
Even on a reliable device like the Redmi Note 10, there can be problems with screenshots, and here are some of the most common solutions.
| Mistake. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot not saved | We're out of space on the device. | Clear the cache or transfer the files to SD-map |
| Black screen instead of screenshot | DRM-Protection (Netflix, banking applications) | Use an external camera or Google Assistant |
| Screenshot cropped at the edges | Screen Scaling Mode Enabled | Turn it off in Settings โ Screen โ Scale |
| Three finger gestures are not working. | Conflict with other gestures | Turn off unnecessary gestures in Settings โ Special features |
| Screenshots are kept in poor quality | Compression in camera settings | Change the format to PNG in Settings โ Additional โ Screenshots |
If none of the methods help, try resetting your gesture settings:
- Go to Settings โ System โ Resetting settings.
- Choose Reset gesture settings (not to be confused with a full reset!).
- Reset the device.
