Xiaomi Redmi 9T is one of the most popular budget smartphones with rich features, but even experienced users sometimes do not know all the ways to create screenshots on this device. A screenshot may be needed to save important information, show an error in the application or just to share a funny meme with friends. In this article, we will analyze all the available methods, from the classic combination of buttons to little-known features of MIUI, which work even on a locked screen.
The Redmi 9T features both Android-standard screenshots and Xiaomi-specific solutions, such as gesture commands or voice assistant integration, and we tested each method on different firmware versions (including MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 14) and put together relevant combinations that are guaranteed to work on your device, and youβll learn how to edit screenshots immediately after creation and where they are stored.
1. Classic method: power and volume buttons
This is the most versatile method that works on all Xiaomi smartphones, including the Redmi 9T. It does not require additional settings and works even if you have disabled gesture controls.
To take a screenshot:
- Open on the screen what you want to capture (page in the browser, message in the messenger, etc.).
- At the same time, press the power button (right) and the volume button (top button on the left end).
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the characteristic shutter sound of the camera and see the animation of the save.
If the screenshot didnβt work the first time, check:
- πΉ Do you press the buttons separately (you need to press them simultaneously).
- πΉ Is the screen locked (on a locked screen this method does not work).
- πΉ Is the systemβs sound turned off (visual animation will still appear).
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI Long-term retention of power and volume buttons can cause the reset menu. If this happens, just press "Cancel" and try again with a shorter press.

If you have a magnetic lock case (such as a book), open it before creating a screenshot - the magnet can block sensors and interfere with the recognition of clicks.
2. Gesture commands: three-finger slip
Xiaomi has added a handy gesture screenshot feature to MIUI, which is especially useful if you have a broken power button or often take screenshots with one hand.
To activate the gesture:
- Go to Settings β Additional functions β Gestures.
- Find the "Three Fingers Screenshot" and turn on the switch.
- You can choose the direction of the slide: down or up (default - down).
Now to take a screenshot:
- Place three fingers (usually index, middle and ring fingers) on the screen.
- Then, move them down (or up if you change the setting).
- The screenshot will be created instantly, without delay.
Advantages of this method:
- π Works in most applications, including games (unless gestures are blocked).
- π You can take screenshots with one hand (comfortable for large screens).
- π No risk of accidentally turning off your phone or calling the reboot menu.
3. Voice assistant: OK, Google and XiaoAI
If you're too lazy to push buttons or make gestures, you can use voice control. There are two options available on the Redmi 9T: Xiaomi's built-in XiaoAI assistant and Google Assistant.
Method 1: XiaoAI (works without the Internet)
- Activate the assistant by saying, βOK, Xiao-Ai,β or holding the Home button (if you have one on your firmware).
- Tell the command to "take a screenshot" or "screenshot".
- Confirm the action if necessary.
Method 2: Google Assistant (requires the Internet)
- Say, "Okay, Google, take a screenshot."
- If the assistant requests confirmation, click "Allow".
Limitations of the voice method:
- π It does not work in some banking applications and games due to security restrictions.
- π XiaoAI may not understand the command if you have a non-Chinese language in the system.
- π Google Assistant Requires Internet Connection to Process Teams.

4. Quick settings panel: Hidden screenshot button
Few people know, but MIUI has a built-in button to take screenshots right in the notification bar, which is convenient if you need to take a series of pictures in a row.
How to use:
- Swipe your finger down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Swipe down again to open the full panel.
- Find the screenshot icon (usually a scissor or a zipper rectangle) if it's not there, click on the pencil (Edit) and add the button to the active button.
- Click on the icon β the screenshot will be taken instantly.
Advantages of this method:
- π± No need to remember button combinations.
- π± You can quickly take a few screenshots in a row.
- π± It works even if you have your handheld controls disabled.
β οΈ Note: Some custom firmware may not have a screenshot button in the default panel, in which case it can be added via panel editing or a widget from a third-party developer (e.g. Power Shade) installed).
5. Screenshot of the page being scrolled (long screenshot)
If you want to save not only the visible part of the screen, but also the entire long chat, web page or list, MIUI has a Scrolling Screenshot (or Long Screenshot) feature that allows you to capture content that does not fit on one screen.
How to take a long screenshot:
- First, create a regular screenshot in any of the ways described above.
- Immediately after the thumbnail appears in the lower right corner of the screen, click on it.
- In the editor that opens, look for the βScrollβ button (usually at the bottom, next to the editing tools).
- Click on it β the screen will automatically scroll down, capturing the content.
- To stop the capture, click on the screen at any time.
Limitations of function:
| Type of content | Is it supported? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Web pages | β Yes. | It works best in Mi Browser and Chrome. |
| Chats in messengers | β Yes. | WhatsApp and Telegram only capture text messages, media files can be cropped. |
| Social media | β οΈ Partially. | Instagram and TikTok are often blocked due to content protection. |
| Documents (PDF, Word) | β No. | The feature doesnβt work in most document reading apps. |
| Games | β No. | Scrolling screens in games are usually blocked. |
If you canβt take a long screenshot, try:
- π Rebooting your phone β sometimes helps with crashes.
- π Use a different browser (e.g. Firefox instead of Chrome).
- π Turn off battery savings β it can limit background processes.
Open the desired page or chat
Make sure the content is fully loaded
Turn off traffic savings (if enabled)
Take a regular screenshot and immediately click on the thumbnail.-->
6 Where screenshots are saved and how to edit them
By default, all screenshots on Redmi 9T are saved to the Pictures/Screenshots folder (or DCIM/Screenshots on some firmware).
- π Through the Gallery (album "Screenshots").
- π Through the Conductor (Inner Memory) β Pictures).
- π Google Photos (if synchronization is enabled).
And right after you take the screenshot, you see a thumbnail in the bottom right corner, and you click on it to:
- βοΈ Edit (cut, add text, drawings).
- π€ Share (send to the messenger or social network).
- ποΈ Delete (if screenshot is not needed).
- π Take a screenshot (if available).
If the thumbnail does not appear, check the settings:
- Go to Settings β Additional functions β Screenshots.
- Make sure to include the item "Show a thumbnail after a screenshot".
For advanced editing, third-party applications can be used:
- π¨ Snapseed β for color correction and retouching.
- π¨ PhotoRoom β to remove background.
- π¨ Canva β to add design elements.

The screenshot editor in MIUI allows you to add mosaic (blurring), arrows and text. To return changes, click "Cancel" in the top menu - edit history is saved until the window closes.
7. Problem Solving: Screenshots are not saved or gestures are not working
Sometimes Redmi 9T users find that screenshots are not created or saved, and here are the most common reasons and ways to eliminate them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshots are not created by pressing buttons | Contaminated or faulty buttons | Wipe the buttons with alcohol or try another method (gesture, notification panel). |
| Three-finger gesture doesn't work. | Function disabled in settings | Include it in Settings β Additional functions β Gestures. |
| Screenshots are not saved in the gallery | Access rights error | Restart your phone or check the permissions for the Gallery app. |
| Long screenshot ends | Weak Internet Signal (for Web Pages) | Connect to Wi-Fi or try again later. |
| Voice assistant doesn't take a screenshot | Limitations of the annex | Try another method or allow access in special features settings. |
If none of these methods work, reset your gesture settings:
- Go to Settings β System and device β Resetting.
- Select "Reset gesture settings."
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
After that, all the screenshot functions should work, and if the problem remains, it may be the custom firmware or the physical malfunction of the buttons, in which case, contact the service center.
