Why you need screenshots on Xiaomi 11T and what prevents them from doing
Screenshots on Xiaomi 11T are not just a saved image from the screen, but a tool to capture important information, evidence in correspondence or quickly exchange data. For example, you can capture an error in the application to send it in support, or save a promo code from Stories that disappears after 24 hours. But many users face problems: the screenshot is not saved, buttons do not respond, or a random gesture is triggered.
Xiaomi 11T (including the Pro and LE modifications) features in MIUI firmware, which offers as many as 5 ways to create screenshots, but not all of them are enabled by default. Moreover, after upgrading to MIUI 14 or HyperOS, some features have changed, which is confusing. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, including the hidden scrolling mode for long pages, which works even in Chrome and Telegram.
Method 1: Classic button combination (always working)
The most reliable method that works even if the touch screen is jammed or the gestures are turned off.
- Open on the screen what you want to fix (for example, correspondence in WhatsApp or map in Google Maps).
- Press the power button (right) and the volume button (left) at the same time.
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the camera shutter sound and see the save animation.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If you have a magnetic lock case (such as the Xiaomi Smart Cover), it can block the power button.
The screen is unlocked and active
Fingers do not close the light sensor
The sound is not turned off (otherwise you will not hear confirmation)
No active calls (buttons may not work)-->
Where to look for a screenshot? By default, files are saved in the DCIM โ Screenshots folder or in the gallery in the Screenshots album. MIUI 14 has an automatic text recognition feature on screenshots โ if you need to copy a phone number or address, just click on the image in the gallery and select "Extract Text."
Method 2: Three-finger gesture (fastest, but requires adjustment)
The Three-Finger Screenshot feature allows you to take a screenshot in one motion, swipe top-down with three fingers (no matter which hand), which is convenient for games or applications where buttons are busy (for example, in PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact).
But by default, the gesture is turned off, to activate it.
- Go to Settings โ Additional โ Special features โ Gestures.
- Select the option โThree finger screenshotโ.
- Turn on the switch and test the gesture on any screen.
๐ก
If the gesture doesn't work, check if the screen protection (film or glass) is in the way. Try to swipe your fingers with a little more pressure.
๐น Challenges and solutions:
- ๐ Gesture conflicts with other features: Turn off "Swipe down for notification panels" in Settings โ Screen. โ Screen gestures.
- โ Not working in games: Add the game to exceptions in gesture settings or use Quick Ball.
- ๐ฑ It works by accident: Reduce the sensitivity of the gesture in the same settings.
Method 3: Voice command (for those who like to control voice)
If you have Google Assistant or Alice on, you can take a voice screenshot, which is convenient when your hands are busy (e.g., you're cooking with a prescription and you want to save a step).
For Google Assistant:
- Say, "OK, Google, take a screenshot."
- Confirm permission to access the screen (only when you first use it).
For Alice:
- Activate Alice with a long hold of the home button or voice (Hello Alice).
- Say, "Take a screenshot."

โ ๏ธ Attention: Voice screenshots donโt work in banking apps (like SberBank Online or Tinkoff) due to Android security limitations, and the command may not work if your internet is disabled or your assistant isnโt updated.
Method 4: Quick Ball โ a floating button for screenshots
Quick Ball is a virtual button that appears on top of any screen, allowing you to take a screenshot, record a screen, or quickly open a menu, and is useful for those who often take screenshots but do not want to remember gestures or button combinations.
How to set up:
- Open the Settings. โ Additionally. โ Quick Ball.
- Turn on the switch and select the style of the button (circle or stripe).
- Click on Quick Ball Settings and add Screenshot to the Quick Actions list.
Now to take a screenshot:
- Tap Quick Ball (it is on the right of the screen by default).
- Select the screenshot icon in the menu that appears.
How to change the position of the Quick Ball?
| Method | Speed. | Works in games. | Requires settings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power buttons + volume | โญโญโญ | โ No. | โ No. |
| Three-finger gesture | โญโญโญโญโญ | โ Yes (with exceptions) | โ Yes. |
| Voice command | โญโญ | โ No. | โ Yes (setting up assistant) |
| Quick Ball | โญโญโญโญ | โ Yes. | โ Yes. |
Method 5: Scrolling Screenshot (Long Screenshot for Pages)
If you want to save all your Telegram correspondence, a long VK post, or a recipe page, a regular screenshot wonโt do โ it will only capture the visible part of the screen. MIUI has a Scrolling Screenshot (or Long Screenshot) feature.
How to do this:
- Take a regular screenshot of any of the above methods.
- Immediately after the thumbnail appears in the lower right corner, click on it.
- In the editor that opens, tap the Scrolling icon (it looks like two up and down arrows).
- Wait until the page automatically scrolls down and click โDoneโ.
๐น Limitations:
- ๐ Not working in some apps: Instagram or TikTok for example due to content protection.
- ๐ Can โshortโ elements: If there are animations or lazy loading on the page (as in Avito), some of the content may not get into the screenshot.
- ๐ Maximum length: About 10 screens (depending on model and version) MIUI).
๐ก
The scrolling screenshot is saved as a separate file in the same Screenshots folder, but marked โLongโ in the name.
Editing and sharing screenshots: Hidden MIUI chips
The screenshot is only half the story, and MIUI 13/14 has built-in tools for quick editing and sending:
- โ๏ธ Quick editing: Immediately after you take a screenshot, tap on the thumbnail in the corner of the screen. The editor with the tools of cropping, drawing, adding text and mosaic will open.
- ๐ค Instant Submitting: In the editor, click โShareโ and select the messenger (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.).
- ๐ In the gallery, open the screenshot and click โExtract textโ โ the system recognizes the entire text and will allow you to copy it.
- ๐ผ๏ธ Creating a collage: Select a few screenshots in the gallery and select "Collageยป โ MIUI It will automatically combine them into one image.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you are editing a screenshot of sensitive information (such as bank details), do not save it to the Mi Cloud without first deleting sensitive data. In 2023, there were cases of data leakage due to synchronization of unprotected screenshots.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even with five ways to take a screenshot, Xiaomi 11T users are facing difficulties.
1. Screenshots are not saved
- ๐ Check the folder: Sometimes files get into Downloads or Pictures instead of Screenshots.
- ๐ ๏ธ Clear the cache: Go to Settings โ Annexes โ gallery โ Warehouse โ Clear the cache.
- ๐ฑ Check Permits: Make sure the Gallery app has access to storage (Settings) โ Annexes โ gallery โ Permits).
2.The buttons are unresponsive
- ๐ Charging less than 5%: Some firmware screenshots are blocked at critical battery level.
- ๐ฎ Game Mode: Turn off Game Mode in the notification curtain or add the game to exceptions.
- ๐ Reboot: If the buttons don't work at all, reboot the phone - it will reset temporary crashes.
3. Black screen instead of screenshot
- ๐ DRM-Protection: In applications like Netflix or SberBank Online screenshots are blocked by default.
- ๐ Dark subject: Sometimes in dark mode, the thumbnail appears black, but the file itself is saved normally - check the gallery.
๐ก
If screenshots are delayed, turn off the interface animation in Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version (click 7 times, then open Developer Settings and reduce the animation to 0.5x).
