Xiaomi Redmi 7 is still popular due to its balanced features and support for current versions of MIUI. However, many users face difficulties when trying to take a screenshot โ especially if they have used devices from other brands. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to take screenshots on Redmi 7, including standard methods, gestures and even voice commands.
The peculiarity of this model is that depending on the firmware version (MIUI 10โ14) and the installed updates, some functions may work differently, for example, in older versions there is no support for a three-finger gesture, but there are alternative combinations of buttons, we tested all methods on the real device and identified the most reliable ones.
If you've just moved from an iPhone or Samsung, the keyboard shortcuts you're used to might not work. Don't worry, Redmi 7 has at least 5 ways to take a screenshot, and at least one of them will fit your situation, and if you like automation, you'll learn how to set up screenshots on a schedule or with Google Assistant.
1. Standard method: power and volume buttons
This is the most versatile method that works on all Xiaomi smartphones, including the Redmi 7. It requires no additional settings and is guaranteed to work even on the oldest version of the firmware.
To take a screenshot:
- Open on the screen what you want to capture (for example, correspondence in WhatsApp or a page in the browser).
- At the same time, press the power button (right) and the volume reduction button (left).
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the sound of the camera shutter and see the animation of the screenshot.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Do not confuse the volume button with the magnification button - the latter in combination with power causes the off menu.If you can not press both buttons at the same time, try first to press the volume and then quickly add the power button.
The finished screenshot will appear in the top notification bar. Click on it to edit immediately (short, add text or a picture) or share via messengers. All screenshots are automatically saved in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots/The buttons do not stick and press clearly.
The screen is not locked (unlock if necessary)
No active calls or screen recordings
Free at least 100 MB of memory (screenshots weigh) ~1-3 MB)-->
2 Screenshot by three-finger gesture (swipe)
If you're uncomfortable with buttons (for example, because of a case or broken keys), Redmi 7 has an alternative: a three-finger wiring gesture across the screen, which works on MIUI 11 firmware and later. If you have an older version, upgrade the system first or use another method.
How to turn on and use:
- Go to Settings โ Additional settings โ Buttons and gestures โ Screenshot gestures.
- Activate the switch next to the Swipe point with three fingers.
- Return to the screen you want to capture and swipe down with three fingers (no matter what hand).
๐ก Useful tip: The gesture only works when you swipe vertically, if you swipe horizontally or diagonally, the system will ignore the command, and also make sure your fingers don't touch the edges of the screen, which can be perceived as an attempt to trigger the notification panel.
If the gesture doesn't work,
- ๐ Reboot your smartphone โ sometimes helps to reset temporary crashes.
- ๐ฑ Check if the function conflicts with other gestures (for example, navigation via swipes).
- ๐ ๏ธ Reset your gesture settings in Settings โ System system โ Resetting settings โ Resetting gesture settings.

3. Screenshot using the Quick Settings Panel
Few people know, but Redmi 7 can take a screenshot without a single button press โ straight from the top curtain, which is especially useful if you take screenshots often and want to save time.
Instructions:
- Open the screen you want (such as an Instagram page or a Telegram dialog).
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Swipe down again to open the full Quick Settings panel.
- Find the screenshot icon (usually it looks like a scissor or a rectangle with serifs) and tap it.
โ ๏ธ Note: If the screenshot icon is not in the panel, you need to add it manually:
- Open the Quick Settings panel and tap on the Edit icon** (pencil).
- Find the screenshot in the list and drag it to the active area.
- Save the changes.
This works even if you have broken volume or power buttons and your gestures are turned off, but note that some versions of MIUI may not have a screenshot icon, in which case use other methods.
4.Voice commands: "OK, Google" and Alice
If you're too lazy to push buttons or make gestures, you can assign a voice assistant to take a screenshot. On Redmi 7, this works through Google Assistant or Alice from Yandex (if installed).
Method 1: Google Assistant
- ๐ค Say, โOK Google, take a screenshotโ (or โTake a screenshotยป).
Method 2: Alice from Yandex
- ๐ Open the Yandex app with Alice or say, โAlice, take a screenshotยป.
- ๐ค The assistant will offer to confirm the action - agree.
- ๐ธ The photo will be taken in 3 seconds (you will hear the countdown).
๐ก Helpful tip: Voice commands are handy when your hands are busy (like youโre cooking with a prescription on your phone), but they require an internet connection and may not work if your microphone is turned off or if there are restrictions on assistants in your security settings.
Why isn't the voice command working?
5. Scrolling screenshot (long screenshot)
Sometimes you need to capture not only the visible part of the screen, but also what is hidden outside of it โ for example, an entire web page, a long chat or a list of comments. Redmi 7 has a feature called Scrolling Screenshot** (or Long Screenshot), but it does not work in all applications.
How to do this:
โ ๏ธ Note: Not all applications are supported, here is a list of supported and unsupported services:
| Annex | Is it supported? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome, Firefox | โ Yes. | It works on most sites, except for protected ones (banks, government services). |
| WhatsApp, Telegram | โ Yes. | It only scrolls chats, it doesnโt work in settings. |
| Instagram, VK | โ No. | Social media blocks long screenshots because of privacy policies. |
| Google Maps, 2GIS | โ No. | The cards do not support scrolling due to dynamic content. |
| PDF-Readers, Word | โ Yes. | It works well to save long documents. |
If the โScrollโ button does not appear, then the application does not support this feature, in which case you can use third-party utilities, such as LongShot or Scroll Capture from Google Play.
6. Third-party screenshot applications
If standard methods donโt suit you (for example, because of broken buttons or outdated firmware), you can install specialized applications.
Top.-3 Proven applications for Redmi 7:
| Annex | Ratings. | Features | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screenshot Easy | 4.7 | Gestures, timer, editor, MIUI support. | The commercial is free. |
| Super Screenshot | 4.5 | Scrolling screenshots, cloud backup, no root rights. | Plugins for some functions. |
| Screen Master | 4.8 | Animation, GIF-Recording, support for Android 9โ12. | It takes up a lot of memory. |
โ ๏ธ Note: When installing third-party apps for screenshots:
- ๐ Give permissions only to verified programs from Google Play.
- ๐ก๏ธ Disable screenshots for unnecessary apps in Settings โ Confidentiality โ Special access โ Screenshots.
- ๐ด Do not install programs that require root rights โ it is not safe and can disrupt the work. MIUI.

Standard methods (buttons, gestures) are more reliable than third-party applications, since they do not require additional permissions and do not consume the resources of the smartphone.
