Screenshots on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones are one of the most popular features that can be used to save important information, share data or fix errors. Despite the apparent simplicity, many users have difficulties: buttons do not work, screenshots are saved in the wrong place, you do not get a screenshot. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to create printscreens on Redmi, from classic keyboard shortcuts to hidden MIUI functions, which are not everyone knows about.
Xiaomiโs smartphone features are that it regularly updates the MIUI firmware, changing menu layouts and adding new features. Therefore, the instructions that are relevant for the 2018 Redmi Note 5 may not work on the Redmi 12 2026. We took into account all the nuances and collected universal methods that will suit most models โ from the budget Redmi A1 to the flagship Redmi K70 Pro. You will also learn how to edit screenshots immediately after creation, where they are stored and how to automatically share them in instant messengers.
1. Classical method: button combination
The most reliable and versatile method that works on all Redmi models โ regardless of the MIUI or Android version.
- ๐ฑ Power button (on/locking) + volume-cut
Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the characteristic shutter sound (if the sound is on) and see the animation of saving a screenshot at the top of the screen. On some models (for example, the Redmi Note 11), the screen will blink for a split second - this is normal.
โ๏ธ Checking before screenshot
If the screenshot didn't work out:
- โก Press the buttons strictly at the same time โ if you first press the volume and then the power, the system will perceive this as an attempt to turn off the phone.
- ๐ Try changing hands: for example, holding your phone with your left hand and pressing the right buttons (or vice versa).
- ๐ ๏ธ On some models (e.g. Redmi) 9A) The buttons are too tight โ check if repairs are needed.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Redmi with MIUI 14+ Android 13+ Long-term button retention can cause the switch-off menu. If it does, release the buttons and try again faster.
2. Screenshot by gesture (three fingers)
The MIUI feature is the ability to take screenshots with three fingers on the screen, which is convenient if the power or volume buttons are faulty, or you often take screenshots with one hand, and the default is disabled, so you need to activate it first:
- Open Settings โ Additional functions โ Gestures.
- Find the Screenshot item by gesture (or Screenshot by gesture in new versions).
- Activate the switch and select the gesture direction (usually from top to bottom).
Now to take a screenshot:
- Place three fingers (usually index, middle and ring fingers) on the screen.
- Then, move them from the top down (or in the direction you choose).
- Wait for the sound signal or animation save.
Advantages of the method:
- ๐ It works even with faulty buttons.
- ๐ You can adjust the direction of the gesture (left/right/down).
- โก Faster than pressing buttons when your hands are busy.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Redmi with AMOLED-screens (e.g. Redmi) K60) The gesture may be triggered falsely when scrolling pages. Turn off the function if it interferes.
3. Screenshot via notification panel
If you donโt feel comfortable remembering button combinations or gestures, MIUI has an alternative: a screenshot button in the notification curtain, which works on all models starting with the Redmi Note 7 (2019) and later.
Instructions:
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Find a Screenshot icon (usually a scissor or a zipper rectangle) if it's not there, click Edit (pencil in the upper right corner) and add it to the active buttons.
- Slip the icon - the screenshot will be taken instantly.
Pros of the method:
- ๐ฏ You donโt need to remember button combinations.
- ๐ฑ It works even if one of the physical buttons is broken.
- ๐ง You can add other useful buttons (for example, Screen Recording).
Cons:
- โฑ๏ธ Requires extra action (opening the curtain).
- ๐ซ On some models (e.g. Redmi) 8A) screenshot button is not available by default.
๐ก
If the screenshot button has disappeared from the curtain after the MIUI update, reset the notification panel settings: Settings โ Notifications โ Additional โ Reset the panel settings.
4. Voice assistant Google or Xiao AI
Few people know, but screenshots on Redmi can be taken with voice without clicking buttons or gestures, either built-in Xiao AI (if installed) or Google Assistant will do.
Method 1: Google Assistant
- Activate the voice assistant with the command OK, Google or hold the Home button (if any).
- Say, Take a screenshot or a screenshot.
- Confirm the action (if required).
Method 2: Xiao AI (China/India only)
- Hold the Home button or say Xiao AI.
- Say in Chinese: (jiรฉtรบ โ โscreenshotโ) or in English: Take a screenshot.
Limitations:
- ๐ฃ๏ธ It only works if the voice assistant is turned on and the microphone is configured.
- ๐ Xiao AI You may not understand Russian (depending on the region of the firmware).
- ๐ On some models (e.g. Redmi) 10C) Voice commands are disabled by default.

5. Scrolling screenshot (long screenshot)
If you want to save an entire web page, chat or a long list, a regular screenshot will not work โ it will capture only the visible part of the screen. MIUI has a Scrolling Screenshot (or Long Screenshot) feature that allows you to glue several frames into a single file.
How to do this:
- First, create a regular screenshot in any of the ways described above.
- Immediately after the thumbnail appears in the lower left corner of the screen, tap it.
- In the editor that opens, select Scroll (an icon with two arrows down).
- Wait until the system automatically scrolls the page and connects the frames.
- Press Ready to save the result.
Where it works:
- ๐ Web pages in Chrome, Mi Browser.
- ๐ฌ Chats on WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber.
- ๐ Documents in WPS Office, Google Docs.
Limitations:
- ๐ซ Does not work in some games and applications with dynamic content (for example, TikTok).
- ๐ Maximum length of screenshot โ ~10 screens (depending on the model).
- โ ๏ธ On Redmi with MIUI 12 or below the function may not be available.
| Model Redmi | Support for a long screenshot | Max. length (screens) |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | โ Yes. | 15 |
| Redmi 11 Prime | โ Yes. | 10 |
