Why you need to connect Xiaomi camera to your TV and what you need
Xiaomiβs camera video is not just convenient to watch on your smartphone β the big TV screen allows you to see the smallest details, control multiple devices at once, and even organize a real-time video surveillance system. For example, the 1080p Mi Home Security Camera 360Β° camera on 55-inch TV will show the visitorβs face at the door so clearly that you will not miss any emotion.
But here's the problem: the manufacturer didn't plan to directly connect most camera models to TVs. HDMI-port, no special application for Smart TV. However, you can bypass this limitation, and weβll explain how. In this article, youβll find 5 working methods (from simple to complex), a table of device compatibility and solving common errors, such as when the camera connects but the image is not transmitted.
First, check what you have:
- πΊ Supported TV HDMI, Wi-Fi or Miracast (for wireless methods).
- π· Xiaomi Camera (any model, but subject to limitations β see the table below).
- π± Smartphone on Android or iOS with the Mi Home app.
- π Cables and adapters (if necessary, we will specify further).
Method 1: Connect via HDMI (for cameras with a connector)
This is the most direct method, but it only works for 2 models: Xiaomi Mi TV Camera (specially for TVs) and Mi Home Security Camera 2K Pro (with HDMI-out included).
Instructions:
- Connect the camera to the TV with an HDMI cable (use the HDMI-IN port on the TV).
- Turn the camera into the socket (if power is required).
- On the TV remote, press the Source (or Input) button and select the appropriate one. HDMI-port.
- If the image does not appear, check the camera resolution settings in the Mi Home app (should match the supported TV resolution).
The Mi TV Camera is designed for Xiaomi Mi TV 4/4S/4X and may not work properly with other models. In this case, try an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter (for example, Baseus HDMI Hub).

The camera resolution does not exceed the maximum for TV (for example, the maximum resolution for the camera, 4K full HD TV won't do)-->
β οΈ Note: If you have connected the camera to Samsung or LG The message βUnsupported formatβ appears, try to manually set the cameraβs resolution settings 1280Γ720 instead 1920Γ1080. This is due to the limitations of proprietary OS of these brands.
Method 2: Broadcast via Mi Home to smartphone + TV duplication
This method is universal and works for any Xiaomi camera, but requires an intermediary β a smartphone or a tablet. The bottom line is that you stream an image from the camera to your phone and then duplicate it to your TV.
Steps:
- Install the Mi Home app on your smartphone and add a camera (if you havenβt already).
- Open the broadcast from the camera in the application.
- Activate the wireless screen broadcast function on your smartphone: π± On Android: Settings β Connected devices β Screen broadcasting. π On iPhone: Control Point β Screen duplication.
Select your TV from the list of available devices.
Advantage: no need to buy additional devices, disadvantages: image delay (up to 2 seconds) and dependence on the stability of Wi-Fi. If the broadcast is interrupted, try:
- π Reconnect the smartphone and camera to the router at 5 GHz (less interference).
- πΆ Reduce the distance between the router and devices.
- π Close background apps on your smartphone (especially instant messengers and games).
π‘
If you have a Xiaomi Mi TV, use the proprietary Miracast feature - it works more stable than standard Android screen duplication. To do this, select Wireless β Miracast in the TV settings and connect from your smartphone.
Method 3: Using the Mi Box or Android TV-prefix
If you have a Xiaomi Mi Box S, NVIDIA Shield or any other console on Android TV, you can install the Mi Home app on it and view the cameras directly on the TV.
Step-by-step:
- Connect the set-top box to the TV via HDMI and turn it on.
- In Google Play, find and install the Mi Home app.
- Log in to the same Xiaomi account that the camera is attached to.
- Go to the Devices section β Cameras and select the right one.
Tip: If the Mi Home app is not on Google Play on the console, download it APK-file from home.mi.com and install via File Manager (allow installation from unknown sources in security settings).
| Model of the console | Support for Mi Home | Max. Camera resolution. | Delay, Ms. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Box S | Yes (officially) | 2K (1440p) | 300β500 |
| NVIDIA Shield TV | Yes (via APK) | 4K (2160p) | 200β400 |
| Apple TV 4K | No (only through screen duplication) | 1080p | 800β1200 |
| Amazon Fire TV Stick | Partially (patch required) | 1080p | 600β900 |
β οΈ Attention: On Apple's consoles TV and some of the fire models TV The Mi Home Stick app doesnβt work directly. In this case, use screen duplication from your smartphone (see Method 2) or install alternative software, such as TinyCam Pro (paid but supports Xiaomi cameras).
Method 4: Connecting via DLNA/UPnP (for advanced)
If your TV supports DLNA technology (most Samsung, LG, Sony 2018 and newer models), you can configure the stream from the camera as a media file.
- π₯οΈ computer or NAS-A server (e.g. Synology) permanently connected to the network.
- π Video capture software from the camera (e.g. iSpy or Blue Iris).
- π‘ Router with UPnP support.
Algorithm:
- Connect the camera to the program on the PC through RTSP-stream (the stream address can be found in the camera settings in Mi Home) β Settings of the device β Additionally. β Network).
- Configure the program to record the stream to the file (for example,.mkv) or broadcast over the local network.
- Activate the PC function DLNA-server (in Windows) 10/11: Parameters β Network and Internet β Sharing parameters).
- On your TV, open the Media Player app (or similar) and select your PC as the source.
Critical detail: address RTSP-Xiaomi cameras are usually in the form of rtsp://[IP_camera]/live/ch00_0, For models with two-way audio communication (e.g. Mi Home Security Camera) 2K) use rtsp://[IP_camera]/live/ch01_0. IP-The camera address can be found in the Mi Home application or through the router.
How to find out IP-Xiaomi camera address without app
Method 5: Live streaming via TV browser (for Smart TV)
If your TV supports a web browser (e.g. Samsung Internet, LG Web Browser), you can open the cameraβs web interface directly. This method works for most Xiaomi cameras, but requires pre-setting.
Instructions:
- Find out. IP-camera address (see spoiler above).
- Open your browser on your TV and enter the view address: http://[IP_camera]/cgi-bin/hi3510/param.cgi?cmd=getdevstate For example: http://192.168.0.105/cgi-bin/hi3510/param.cgi?cmd=getdevstate.
- If you receive a login / password request, use the standard data: Login: admin Password: empty or 123456 (if not changed).
http://[IP_ Cameras]/cgi-bin/hi3510/stream.cgi?-chn=0&-type=mainLimitations of the method:
- π Not all camera models support a web interface (e.g. Mi Home Camera). 1080p Mi Home Camera 2 is not working).
- π Possible delays of up to 5 seconds.
- π‘οΈ For security, change the standard camera password in the Mi Home settings!

Xiaomiβs web-based camera interface allows you to not only watch videos, but also control rotation (for models with motors), turn on night mode and adjust motion detection. However, this requires knowledge of API commands β a list of them can be found in the documentation for a particular model.
The solution to the problem: why the camera does not connect to the TV
Even with the right connection, errors can occur, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No HDMI imagery available | Incompatible permission | Set the camera settings to 720p or 1080p (not 2K/4K). |
| Broadcast lays | Weak Wi-Fi signal | Switch to 5GHz router or use a Powerline adapter. |
| The Mi Home app is not installed on the console | Restrictions of Android TV | Install APK via Send Files to TV or bootloader. |
| The web interface of the camera does not open | Blocking by router | Turn off the firewall on the router or add IP cameras to the exceptions. |
| Sound's there, no image. | Codecs are not supported | Update the TV firmware or use it VLC-console player. |
If none of these methods worked, check:
- π Is the camera powered by the mains (the indicator should be green/blue).
- π‘ Is the camera and TV connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- π Updated camera and TV firmware (in Mi Home and TV settings).
β οΈ Note: If you use a Xiaomi camera to monitor the street, keep in mind that the temperature is lower. -10Β°Some models (e.g. Mi Outdoor Camera) may be switched off, requiring a heated casing or a warmer seating position.
