We will pay special attention to the settings for Russian users (taking into account the limitations of Mi Home in Russia), as well as solve typical errors like βnot enough spaceβ or βcannot connect to the serverβ.
Which Xiaomi cameras support cloud recording?
Not all. IP-Xiaomi cameras can save video to the cloud, and the feature is only available for models with support for Mi Home Cloud Storage or integration with third-party services through the cloud. IFTTT/Home Here is the current list of compatible devices (on the 2026 year):
- πΉ Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360Β° 2K (model XMCXGG02, XMCXGG03) β Full cloud support, including face and movement recognition.
- πΉ Xiaomi Mi Home Camera PTZ (XMCXGG01) β Recording to the cloud with a resolution restriction (max. 1080p).
- πΉ Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p (XMCXGG04) β Only manual download via Mi Home.
- πΉ Xiaomi Mi Outdoor Camera 1080p (XMSXJ02FM) β Cloud is only available for firmware versions 1.5.6_0049 newer.
β οΈ Note: Xiaomi Mijia cameras (e.g. Mijia 360)Β° 1080p) They donβt support the cloud directly, and theyβll need a workaround through Home Assistant or Synology Surveillance Station.
Before setting up, check the camera firmware version in the Mi Home app (Settings β About Device) If the version is older than 1.4.0, update it via the menu or manually from the official Xiaomi website.
Method 1: Write to the Mi Cloud (official method)
The Mi Cloud is the easiest way to save records, but with limitations. The free tariff provides only 7 days of storage and 5 GB of space, which is enough for only 2-3 days of continuous recording in 1080p resolution.
- Open the Mi Home app and select your camera.
- Go to Settings β Storage β Cloud Storage.
- Click Activate Trial Period (14 days) or select Paid Rate (from 99 days) β½/month).
- Turn on the options: π Continuous recording β saves video 24/7 (squander). π¨ Recording by movement - saves space, but may miss events. π€ Facial recognition β only available for AI cameras (e.g. Mi Home Camera) 360Β° 2K).
β οΈ Note: Mi Cloud may be restricted in Russia due to sanctions, and if the option "Cloud Storage" is not on the menu, use the option VPN with the Hong Kong or Singapore region when setting up.
Check the camera firmware version (at least 1.4.0)
Make sure the camera is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
Create a Xiaomi account (if not)
Pay for a subscription (if necessary)-->
| The Mi Cloud fare | Storage volume | Storage period | Cost (β½/month) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 5GB | 7 days | Free of charge. |
| Standard. | 50GB | 30 days | 99 |
| Premium | 200GB | 30 days | 299 |
| Family | 2 TB (per 5 devices) | 30 days | 599 |
Important: When using a VPN to access Mi Cloud, disable it after setting up the cloud, otherwise the camera may lose connection to Xiaomi servers.
Method 2: Autoboot to Google Drive or Yandex Disk
If Mi Cloud is not available or expensive, you can set up automatic uploads to Google Drive or Yandex Disk via IFTTT (If This Then That) service, which works for all Xiaomi cameras, but requires a memory card in the device.
Instructions for Google Drive:
- Install the IFTTT app and register.
- Create a new applet (Create β If This): Select the Mi Home service and the New motion detected trigger.
- In the Then That section, select Google Drive and Upload file from URL.
- In the File URL field, insert a link to the latest camera recording, which can be retrieved via the Mi Home API (see spoiler below).
- Specify the folder in Google Drive and click Save.
Example of settings through Synology Surveillance Station:
- Install Surveillance Station in Package Center.
- Add the camera through IP-camera β Xiaomi, by specifying its local IP port 554 (RTSP).
- In the recording settings, select Continuous or Motion and specify the folder on the NAS.
- Set up notifications on email or Telegram when you detect movement.
β οΈ Attention: To access the RTSP-Xiaomi's camera stream needs to turn it on manually:
- Connect to the camera via Telnet (use IP camera and port 23).
- Enter commands: set_proto rtsp set_stream ch0 0
- The link to connect will be of the form: rtsp://[IP_camera]:554/ch0_0.h264

A local server is the only way to record video from Xiaomi cameras without any storage and storage restrictions, but it requires initial hardware investment and administration skills.
Solving Common Errors When Writing to the Cloud
Even after you set it up properly, users have problems, and here are the most common mistakes and solutions.
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Can't connect to the cloud. | Blocking by region or VPN | Use a VPN with the Hong Kong region when setting up |
| Not enough space in the cloud | Free tariff limit exceeded | Clean up old records or pay for an extension |
| Videos are not uploaded to Google Drive | Incorrect link to the file in IFTTT | Check the access token to the camera API |
| The camera is not detected in the Mi Home | Outdated firmware | Update the camera software through Settings β About the device |
If the camera stopped recording to the cloud after updating the firmware, reset the settings:
- In the Mi Home app, go to Settings β About Device β Reset.
- Select Reset Network Settings (not a full reset!).
- Reconnect the camera and reset the cloud.
Xiaomi Mi Home Camera 360Β° 2K sometimes gives an error "Can't download video" due to a conflict of time zones.
- In the camera settings, set the time zone UTC+0.
- Restart the camera (turn off power for 10 seconds).
- Get the right time zone back.
How to save space in the cloud?
Cloud storage fills up quickly if you don't optimize your settings. Here are the working ways to reduce your space consumption:
- π₯ Reduce resolution: In the camera settings, select 1080p instead 2K β This will reduce the file size by 30 to 40%.
- β±οΈ Reduce the duration of clips: In Mi Home set the Recording Duration for the event for 10-15 seconds (by default 30 seconds).
- π Configure detection zones: In the Settings menu β Mark only key areas (such as a door or window).
- ποΈ Autoclean: In Mi Cloud, enable the option to Delete old records automatically.
For AI-enabled cameras (such as Xiaomi Mi Home Camera 360Β° 2K), activate Human Recognition to reduce the number of false positives on pets or shadows.

If you use Google Drive, create a separate folder for recordings from the camera and set up the rule for automatically cleaning files older than 30 days through Google Apps Script.
Alternative services for cloud recording
Besides Mi Cloud and IFTTT, there are other ways to save video from Xiaomi cameras:
- π Telegram bot: With Python and the Python-telegram-bot library, you can configure the upload of records to a chat or channel.
- π₯οΈ Home Assistant: Integration with Xiaomi Mi Home allows you to save video to a local server or Dropbox.
- π¦ Synology Surveillance Station: Supports up to 72 cameras and motion analytics.
- π RTSP + FFmpeg: For advanced users, record the stream from camera to server via the command: ffmpeg -i rtsp://[IP_camera]:554/ch0_0.h264 -c copy -f segment -segment_time 300 -segment_format mp4 /path/to/folder/%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S.mp4
β οΈ Note: When using Home Assistant or RTSP Disable cloud recording in Mi Home to avoid file duplication and network congestion.
