Did you take a great photo on Xiaomi, but it turned out upside down, or do you need to mirror the image for social networks? Unlike iPhone or Samsung, Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones do not always offer an obvious tool to turn pictures right in the standard gallery. However, there is a solution - and there are even several!
In this article, you will find 3 proven ways to flip photos on a Xiaomi phone (including models on MIUI 12/13/14 and HyperOS), and learn how to save an edited image without loss of quality. We will analyze the built-in features, hidden features and third-party applications β choose the method that is right for you.
Important: If you work with photos often, note the difference between a βturnβ (a 180Β° turn) and a βreflectionβ (mirroring), and we will show in the instructions below what effect each method has.
Method 1: Turn a photo through the standard gallery Xiaomi
The easiest method is to use the built-in photo editor in the Gallery app. It is available on all Xiaomi smartphones (including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Mi 11 and newer) and does not require additional software installation, but there is a caveat: the flip function (turning 180).Β°) Often hidden behind the "turn" optionΒ».
To turn the photo over:
- Open the Gallery app and select the photo you want.
- Click on the Edit icon** (pencil in the bottom menu).
- In the toolbar, find the Turn button (curved arrow) and press it twice β this will turn the image 180Β°.
- Click Save (or Save as a copy to avoid erasing the original).
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI After double-clicking "Turn" the photo may return to its original position:
- π In the gallery editor, select the Pruning Tool.
- π In the corner of the screen, you'll see the "Turn" icon** (square with an arrow). Press it 2 times.

If your version of MIUI does not have a βTurnβ button, update the Gallery app via Google Play or use Method 2.
Method 2: Mirror reflection of a photo via Google Photos
Google Photos offers more flexible editing tools, including mirror image (flip horizontally/vertical), which is suitable if you need to not just flip a picture, but create a mirror copy β for example, for symmetrical collages or correction of βmirroredβ selfies.
Instructions:
- Install Google Photos from Play Market (if not already installed).
- Open the photo in the application and click Edit (pencil icon).
- Go to the Tools tab β Turn around.
- There will be buttons at the bottom of the screen: π Turn to 90.Β° (not suitable for a coup). π Reflect horizontally (mirror from left to right). π Reflect vertically (mirror from top to bottom).
Keep a copy
Important: Google Photos saves edited photos to the cloud by default. To show up in the Xiaomi Gallery, turn on the βSave to Deviceβ option in the app settings (Settings β Save to Device).

Method 3: Snapseed (for advanced)
If you need to not only turn the photo, but also adjust the perspective, remove distortion or apply additional effects, use the free application Snapseed from Google. How to save an edited photo in the Xiaomi Gallery
After a photo flip or reflection, it is important to save it correctly so that:
- π The image appeared in a standard gallery (not just in the cloud or app folder).
- π The original has not been deleted or re-recorded.
- π Quality remains at the same level.
Hereβs how to do this depending on the method used:
1. If edited in the standard Xiaomi gallery:
When you click Save Photos, it will automatically appear in the Edited folder (or Edited in Russian firmware) to find it:
- Open the gallery. β Albums.
- Scroll down to the Others section.
- The Edited folder will contain all edited copies.
2 If you used Google Photos:
By default, edited photos are saved to the cloud, so they can appear in the gallery:
- Open the photo in Google Photos.
- Click More (three dots) β Save to the device.
- The photo will be in the Download or Google Photos folder.
3. If edited in Snapseed:

Why is the photo not saved in the gallery?
Frequent problems and their solutions
When you flip a photo on Xiaomi, users are faced with typical errors. Here's how to fix them:
1.There is no "Turn" button in the gallery
Causes and solutions:
- π± An outdated version MIUI: Update the firmware through Settings β The phone. β Updating the system.
- π§ Disabled editing functions: Check gallery settings: Settings β Additionally. β Insert editing.
- π Photo in the cloud: Download the original to the device (long press on the photo) β Save it to the device).
2 After saving the photo loses quality
It's because of the automatic compression.
- πΌοΈ Snapseed: When exporting, select 100% quality.
- π In Google Photos: Turn off Traffic Savings in Settings.
- π± In a standard gallery: save as a copy, not overwrite the original.
3. The inverted photo does not open in other applications
Possible causes:
- π Damaged metadata: Try opening a photo in Google Photos and saving it again.
- π Unsupported format: Convert to JPEG via Snapseed or online converter.
- π Application restrictions: For example, WhatsApp may not show edited photos.

If a photo after a coup looks "compressed" or with artifacts, the problem is not the editing method, but the save format. Always check the quality settings before exporting!
Alternative applications for coup photos
If Xiaomiβs standard tools donβt suit you, consider these apps:
| Annex | Functions | Pluses | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| PicsArt | Turn, reflection, correction of perspective, effects | Lots of tools, layer support | Advertising, paid functions |
| Adobe Lightroom | Turn, reflection, professional color correction | Maintains RAW quality, synchronization with the cloud | Difficult for beginners |
| Photo Editor Pro | 180Β° rotation, mirroring, pruning | Simple interface, no advertising | Limited functionality |
Snapseed or Google Photos is enough for most tasks, but if you need additional effects (like fixing distortions from Xiaomiβs wide-angle camera), try Lightroom.
