QR-codes have become an integral part of everyday life, from paying for purchases to logging into Wi-Fi networks. - Xiaomi Redmi Note smartphone owners (including Note models) 10/11/12/13 Pro and earlier versions are often faced with the question of how to quickly and error-free scan the code without installing unnecessary applications. In this article, we will discuss all available methods - from built-in functions. MIUI To special utilities, and also solve typical problems when the camera "cannot see" the code or gives an error.
The Redmi Note has integrated the QR scanner directly into the Cameraβs standard app, but not everyone knows about it. Moreover, depending on the MIUI version and the firmware region, the interface may differ β somewhere the feature is hidden in additional settings, and somewhere it works out of the box. We tested all methods on current firmware in 2026 and found the most reliable way for models with cameras at 48 MP and above: using the Document mode in the Scanner application.
1. Method: built-in scanner in the Camera application
The most obvious and quickest method is to use a standard camera, which works on all Redmi Notes since the Note 5 (2018), and does not require any additional software.
- Open the Camera app on the home screen or menu.
- Switch to Photo mode (if another mode is enabled, such as Video or Portrait).
- Point the lens at QR-code so that it fits fully into the viewfinder.
- Wait for the notification to appear with a suggestion to click on the link (usually a yellow frame and a pop-up window appear).
If the notification does not appear, check:
- π¦ Lighting: QR-The code should be well lit. In low light, turn on the flashlight (Notification Panel) β Lantern).
- π± Distance: optimal distance of 15-30 cm from the code, too close or far can interfere with recognition.
- π Focus: Touch the screen in the area QR-code to allow the camera to focus.
π‘
If the camera is thinking for a long time, try switching to the front camera β sometimes it can recognize codes better at close range.
On some MIUI firmware (e.g., the global version for the Redmi Note 10 Pro), the QR scanning function is disabled by default to activate it:
- Open the camera β Settings (cog in the upper right corner).
- Find the Scan item. QR-codes and switch on.
2. Method: App βScannerβ from Xiaomi
Xiaomi preinstalled on all Redmi Notes (starting with the MIUI 12) a special application Scanner, which can recognize not only QR-It's more reliable than a standard camera, because it uses a specialized recognition algorithm.
Instructions:
- Find the Scanner app on the home screen or menu, if it's not available, check the Tools folder or search the system.
- Open the app and allow access to the camera (if you request it).
- Select a mode. QR-code (usually enabled by default).
- Point the camera at the code. Recognition is almost instantaneous.
Advantages of this method:
- π It works even with corrupted or blurred codes.
- π You can scan codes from the screen of another device (for example, from a PC monitor).
- π Stores scan history (available in History section).
Make sure the app is updated | Clear the camera cache in the settings | Turn off the power saving for the Scanner app | Check the permissions to access the camera-->
If the Scanner app is not on your Redmi Note, it can be installed from the Mi App Store (search on request "Scanner"). For models older than the Redmi Note 8, you may need to manually install it. APK-file from the official Xiaomi website.
3. Method: Google Lens (for users with Google services)
If your Redmi Note has Google services installed (which is relevant for global firmware), you can use Google Lens, a powerful image recognition tool that can scan. QR-This method is suitable for owners of Redmi Note. 11/12 Pre-installed Google Photos or Google Assistant.
How to Scan Through Google Lens:
- Open the Google Photos or Google Assistant app (hold the Home button to call the Assistant).
- In Google Photos: Select any photo (even an empty one) and click on the Google Lens icon (as a square with a dot inside). In Google Assistant: click on the Lens icon in the bottom menu.
- Put the camera on QR-Lens automatically recognizes it and offers an action (open a link, save a contact, etc.).
Features of the method:
- π It even works with foreign companies. QR-codes (for example, Chinese menus or tickets).
- π Can recognize codes as stickers on curved surfaces (e.g., bottles).
- β οΈ Requires an Internet connection to process data.
On Redmi Note with Chinese firmware (without Google services), this method does not work, in which case we recommend using methods 1, 2 or 4.
Method: Third-party applications (for complex codes)
If standard methods fail (for example, the code is corrupted or has a non-standard format), you can install a specialized application.
| Annex | Features | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| QR & Barcode Scanner (by Gamma Play) | It recognizes even partially erased codes, works offline. | Google Play |
| Kaspersky QR Scanner | Checks security links before opening | Google Play |
| NeoReader | Supports scanning from photos in the gallery | Google Play |
How to install and use:
- Download the app from Google Play or Mi App Store.
- Open it and allow access to the camera.
- Point the lens to the code. Most applications offer additional features: π Checking links to viruses (in Kaspersky) QR Scanner). π Preserving scan history. π€ Export of data in text or image format.
What are they? QR-codes can be dangerous?
On the Redmi Note with limited memory, we recommend NeoReader β it weighs less than 5 MB and does not load the system. For maximum security, choose Kaspersky QR Scanner, especially if you often scan codes in public places (restaurants, transport).
5. Method: scanning from a photograph (if the code is static)
If QR-The code is pre-photographed or stored in a gallery (e.g., screenshots) and can be recognized without using a camera:
- πΈ Codes on paper (checks, tickets).
- π₯οΈ Codes from a PC screen or other phone.
- π Re-scanning previously saved codes.
Instructions:
- Save the image with QR-phone-galleries.
- Open the Google Photos or Gallery app.
- Select a photo with the code and click on the Google Lens icon (if you use Google Photos) or Scan QR (in the standard MIUI Gallery).
- The app recognizes the code and suggests an action.
Alternatively, use the Xiaomi Scanner app:
- Open the Scanner β Gallery icon (in the lower right corner).
- Select an image from QR-code.
- Wait for processing (usually takes 1-2 seconds).

Scanning from a photo only works with clear images, and if the code is blurred or too small (less than 100 pixels), recognition may not work.
This method is especially convenient for the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ with a 200 MP camera β you can take a photo of the code from afar, and then zoom in and scan it from the photo.
6.The solution to the problems: why the phone doesn't scan QR-code
If none of the methods work, the reasons may be as follows:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The camera doesn't focus on code | Dirt on the lens or protective glass | Wipe the camera with a soft cloth. Remove the case if it covers the lens. |
| Notification of the code does not appear | Scanning feature disabled in camera settings | Scan it on. QR-codes in the settings of the Camera application. |
| The scanner app is giving you an error. | Outdated version or conflict with other programs | Update the app through the Mi App Store or clear its cache in Settings β Apps. |
| The code is recognized, but the link is not opened. | Browser restrictions or ad blocker | Try opening a link in another browser (e.g. Chrome instead of Mi Browser). |
Additional checks:
- π Energy saving: Make sure that the Camera and Scanner applications are turned off battery optimization mode. β Battery β Optimizing the battery β Find the app β No restrictions.
- πΆ Internet: Some QR-codes (e.g. Wi-Fi) require a network connection to confirm the action.
- π Reboot: If the camera is βgluttingβ, reboot the phone β it will reset temporary driver errors.
π‘
On the Redmi Note 10S and later, there is a hidden camera testing feature. To check its performance, type in the Phone app code ##6484## (Camera Test Menu).
If the problem persists, try rolling back updates for the Camera app (in Settings β Apps β Camera β Three dots β Reverse updates). This often helps with bugs after the MIUI update.
7.Security: How not to run into scammers
QR-codes may contain malicious links, so it is important to take precautions:
β οΈ Warning: Never scan. QR-codes from suspicious sources (e.g. stickers on the ATM Fraudsters often substitute legitimate codes for their own to steal data.
Safe scanning rules:
- π‘οΈ Use link-checking apps (like Kaspersky) QR Scanner).
- π Check before the transition URL β It must match the expected resource (for example, wi-fi.ru for network connection).
- π΅ Do not enter logins / passwords on sites opened through the QR, unless you are sure of their authenticity.
- π± Update your phone regularly in new versions MIUI vulnerability related to processing is closed QR.
On the Redmi Note with Chinese firmware (China ROM), the risk of running into fraudulent codes is higher due to the lack of Google Protect.
