Photos on Xiaomi smartphones often suffer from aggressive processing in the standard MIUI Camera app: blurry parts, unnatural colors and inflated sharpness. The solution is ported by Google Camera (GCam), which reveals the real potential of iron modules even in budget models. But installing GCam on Xiaomi is not always a trivial task: you need the right versions of APK, configs for a specific processor and knowledge of workarounds for errors.
In this guide, we will analyze all the steps: from choosing a compatible build to fine-tuning HDR+, Night Sight and 4K video. Separately, we will focus on problems with the Camera2 API, bugs on MediaTek chips and ways to get around the limitations of MIUI. If your Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or Mi 13 Ultra shoots worse than it could β this guide is for you.
Why Google Camera is better than Xiaomiβs standard camera
Google's image processing algorithms are machine learning-based and optimized for maximum detail without artifacts. Unlike MIUI Camera, which prioritizes "beautiful picture" at the expense of loss of realism, GCam retains:
- πΈ Natural colors - without excessive saturation and shift of shades (especially noticeable on the skin and sky).
- π Details in the shadows β HDR+ GCam is real-time, not post-processing like Xiaomi.
- π₯ Video stabilization β even on budget models (e.g. Redmi) 10C) Video is getting smoother.
- π Sharpness without halos β no βplasticβ effect, typical for the algorithms Xiaomi.
The downside is that the GCam doesnβt support all MIUI Camera modes, like the Magic Clone or the AI Watermark, but for most users, the upsides outweigh the downsides.
Compatibility Check: Does your Xiaomi support Google Camera?
Before you download an APK, make sure your device is physically capable of working with GCam.
- Presence Camera2 API β GCam will not launch without it, and it will be checked through the Manual Camera Compatibility app (available on the Play Market). LEVEL_3 or FULL β it's okay. LEGACY or LIMITED This means that GCam will operate with limitations (e.g., no RAW).
- Processor model β GCam assemblies optimized for specific chips: πΉ Qualcomm Snapdragon (8xx/7xx/6xx/4xx) β maximum compatibility. πΉ MediaTek Dimensity (1000/1200/9000) β Special ports are required. πΉ MediaTek Helio (G85/G95/G99) β Not all functions are working (for example, Night Sight may not be available).
| Processor | Support for GCam | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (Mi 13, POCO F5 Pro) | Complete. | No. |
| Dimensity 9000 (Redmi K50 Pro) | Partial | No Astrophotography, possible lag |
| Helio G99 (Redmi 12) | Basic | Main camera only, no HDR+ in video |
| Snapdragon 480 (POCO M3 Pro) | Complete. | No support for 4K@60fps |
β οΈ Attention: On devices with MIUI 14+ HyperOS may need to be disabled. MIUI Optimization in the Developer Settings (Settings) β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 times to tap β For developers β Turn off optimization MIUI). Without it, GCam can fly out while shooting.
Where to download Google Camera for Xiaomi: official and ported versions
Google doesn't release GCam for devices that aren't part of the Android One or Pixel program, so Xiaomi uses ported builds from enthusiasts.
- π Celso Azevedo, the largest base APK It's filtered by brand and model. Urnyx05, BSG Shamim.
- π Telegram channels: @GCamMods β Current builds for Snapdragon. @MTK_GCam β Ports for MediaTek (including Dimensity).
- π 4PDA β In the themes of specific models Xiaomi often put optimized configurations (for example, for the Redmi Note 11 Pro).+ or POCO X4 GT).
Criteria for selection of version:
- Fresh assembly (optimally - no older than 3 months).
- Support for your processor (indicated in the name) APK, for example GCam_8.1.101_Snapdragon.apk).
- Config files for your model (accelerates the setup).

If you're not sure about your choice, download the latest two versions from different authors and test them in parallel, one that works better during the day, the other at night.
Google Camera installation on Xiaomi
The installation process depends on whether the bootloader is unlocked on your device. If not, use the rootless method.
Method 1: Install an APK without root (for most users)
Download APK from a trusted source |Allow installation from unknown sources | Disable MIUI optimization (if MIUI 14+) | Remove the standard camera cache (Settings β Applications β Camera β Memory β Clear cache)
-->
- Download. APK-GCam file (e.g, GCam_8.4.300_v1.8.apk from BSG).
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management β Application Settings (cogs) β Install unknown applications and allow installation for your file manager.
- Install APK by following the prompts. If you see an error "Application not installed", try: Remove the previous version of GCam. Use another installer (for example, SAI - Split APK Installer).
Once installed, open GCam and provide all the requested permissions (camera, microphone, storage).
Method 2: Installation via Magisk (for advanced users)
If you have a bootloader unlocked and you have Magisk installed, you can use modules to integrate GCam into the system.
- GCam Services Provider β emulates the availability of Google Camera services to ensure HDR+ works properly.
- GCam Go Fix fixes bugs on weak devices (e.g. Redmi 9A).
Install it through Magisk Manager β Modules β Install it from storage. Once installed, restart the device.
β οΈ Note: On certain devices (e.g, POCO F3 s MIUI 13) Magisk modules may conflict with Camera2 API. If the GCam stops seeing a flash after installation, turn off the modules one by one to find the culprit.
Google Camera setup: optimal settings for Xiaomi
By default, GCam can be unstable, like dark images, green hue, or zoom artifacts, and you can fix that by:
- Configs are settings files (.xml) that automatically adjust GCam to a specific hardware. For example: Redmi Note 10 Pro is a Wichaya config. For POCO X3 Pro, Shamim config.
Download the file, place it in the GCam/Configs folder on the internal storage, then in GCam, tap it twice on the black area next to the down button.
Manual setting
- HDR+ control β High (for better detail in shadows)
- Lib patcher β Saber (reduces noise on MediaTek)
- Video bitrate β 50 Mbps (for) 4K).
- Turn off Motion photos (saves space and reduces lag).
Challenges and solutions:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The green tint in the photo | Incompatible with Camera2 API | Enable Aux camera fix in GCam settings |
| GCam flies off while shooting video | Limitation of MIUI on background activity | Add GCam to AutoRun and Without Restrictions (Settings β Battery) |
| Front camera's not working. | There is no support at the port. | Try the GCam version marked FrontCam |
π‘
If the photos are too dark after setting up, turn on Night Sight even during the day β the GCam algorithm will automatically adjust the exposure.
