Pesky calls from scammers, spam mailings or annoying contacts can sometimes turn a smartphone into a source of stress. Xiaomi phone owners (including Redmi, POCO and Black Shark sub-brands) have several built-in tools to block unwanted numbers, from the standard MIUI blacklist to the hidden functions of the operator. In this article, we will examine all the current methods, including nuances for different versions of firmware and smartphone models.

1. Standard blacklist in MIUI: step-by-step instruction

If the standard MIUI blacklist doesn’t work (e.g., calls are made via messengers like WhatsApp or Viber), you can lock the number at the operator level, which works even if the caller uses a hidden number or VoIP phone.

After you enter the command, you will receive a confirmation SMS. The service is usually free, but some operators may charge you to add each number (for example, MegaFon - 3 rubles / number).
⚠️ Note: Operator-level locking does not work for international numbers and calls over Wi-Fi (VoIP).In this case, use a combination of methods: standard blacklist MIUI + messenger-locking.
3.Block spam calls through the built-in MIUI filter
MIUI has a hidden spam filtering feature that automatically blocks known fraudulent numbers, which runs on Xiaomi's database and is updated once a week to activate:
- Open the phone. → ⋮ (three-point) → Settings.
- Choose Blocking and Spam Filtering.
- Activate the switches: 🛡️ Spam filter (blocks known fraudulent numbers) 📵 Block hidden numbers (if you call from unknown people) ID) 🔍 Show a spam warning (indicates a suspicious call)
Important: This feature may mistakenly block legitimate numbers (e.g. from banks or delivery services) and check before activating if your call log contains any important contacts with the status of "Suspicious".
If the filter is not working properly and has blocked the desired number, add it to the Exclusions in the same menu.

4. Blocking in messengers (WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram)
If a harassing contact writes or calls through messengers, the standard MIUI blacklist is powerless, in which case you need to set the lock in each application separately.

- 🔒 Once blocked, the user will not be able to call you via VoIP or send messages.
Viber
- 👤 Go to the contact profile → ⋮ → Lock down.
- 📞 To block calls, but leave the option to write: Settings → Confidentiality → Blacklist → Add a number.
Telegram
- 💬 Open the dialogue. → tap in the name of the contact → ⋮ → Block the user.
- 🛡️ Telegram also has a “Report Spam” feature, which sends a complaint to moderators.
The feature of blocking in messengers is that it only works inside a particular application. For example, if you block a number on WhatsApp, a person will still be able to call you via a regular cellular connection or Viber.

If the built-in MIUI tools don’t work (for example, a spammer uses different numbers), third-party software will help. We tested 5 popular applications for blocking calls and selected the three most effective ones:

To install any of these applications:
- Download it from Google Play Market (links: Truecaller, Hiya).
- Start and provide access to calls/contacts (required for work!).
- In the application settings, activate the Auto-Block Spam option.
⚠️ Note: The side of the locking application may conflict with the built-in blacklist MIUI. If after installation, the standard phone functions stopped working (for example, call notifications disappeared), disable auto-run third-party software in the battery settings.
6. How to unlock a number on Xiaomi
If you accidentally blacklisted a number or changed your mind about blocking a contact, it's easy to return it to normal mode, depending on how you blocked the number:
Unlocking through MIUI
- 📋 Go to Settings. → Memory and SIM-map → Blacklist.
- 🔍 Find the number in the list and swipe it to the left (or click Delete).
- 🔄 Alternatively, open a call log, find a number. → ⋮ → Remove from the blacklist.
Unlocking through the operator
Send. USSD-command to unlock (see table in section 2) or contact the operator:
- 📞 MTS: Call 0890 and say the code word "Unlock".
- 💬 Beeline: write to the support chat in the My Beeline application.
- 🌐 Megaphone and Tele2: use your personal account on the official website.
Unlocking in messengers
- 🔓 WhatsApp: ⋮ → Settings → Account. → Confidentiality → Blocked. → Select contact → Unlock.
- 🔄 Viber: More → Settings → Confidentiality → Blacklist → Delete the number.
💡
Once unlocked, the number will not appear in the call log automatically. To return the story, ask the contact to call you back.
7. Frequent problems and their solutions
Sometimes the number lock on Xiaomi doesn't work properly, and we've collected some common errors and ways to fix them:
