Switching to a new Xiaomi smartphone or temporarily using someone else’s device is often accompanied by the need to log into your Mi Account, a single account that synchronizes contacts, photos, notes and even system settings. SMS-The code does not come, then two-factor authentication requires confirmation on the old phone, then the system asks for a backup email, which is not at hand. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways to log into a Xiaomi account from another phone – from standard authorization to bypassing locks if the main device is lost or broken.
We will pay special attention to hidden Mi Account settings, which allow you to log in without SMS or password if you have an email attached. Also consider how to act if your account is blocked due to suspicious activity or if you forgot your login. All instructions are tested on MIUI 14/15 firmware and are relevant for models from Redmi Note 12 to Xiaomi 14 Ultra flagships.
1. Standard Mi Account login from a new phone
If you have access to your username (email/phone) and password, the login process will take no more than a minute.
- Open the settings on your new phone and go to Accounts → Add Account → Mi Account.
- Enter the email or phone number associated with your account. If you use your phone, enter the country code (for example, +7 for Russia).
- Enter a password. If two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled, the system will request code from SMS or Google Authenticator.
- Confirm the entrance by pressing Enter.
Once you have successfully logged in, you will start synchronizing your contacts, notes from Mi Notes, call history, and even lock screen settings (if enabled), and it's important that if the new phone has already logged in to another Mi Account, the system will prompt you to log out of your current account or add a new one.

If at the stage of entering the password there is an error "Incorrect login or password", check:
- 🔹 Register of characters – password sensitive to capital letters.
- 🔹 Keyboard – maybe the wrong language is included (e.g. English instead of Russian).
- 🔹 Previous Previous post: If You Haven’t Seen It For A Long Time, Your Password Could Have Been Reset After Xiaomi’s Security Policy Update.
2. Entry without SMS: alternative ways of confirmation
One of the most common problems is that the code from the SMS doesn't come in.
- 📵 Blocking messages by the operator (especially if you use a virtual number).
- 🌍 Geographical restrictions: Xiaomi can block the SMS in some countries.
- ⏳ Delayed delivery – sometimes the code arrives in 5-10 minutes.
Decisions:
Method 1: Using backup email
If you specified a backup email during registration, you can confirm the entrance through it:
- On the input screen SMS-Click on the code Not received the code?.
- Select Send to email.
- Check your email (including the Spam folder) – the email comes from no-reply@account.xiaomi.com.
Method 2: Google Authenticator App
If you have previously configured two-factor authentication through Google Authenticator, the code can be obtained there:
- Open the app on your old phone (or on a device where the backup is saved).
- Find the Mi Account entry, there will be a 6-digit code.
- Enter it in the confirmation field on the new phone.
💡
If you don’t have access to your old phone with Google Authenticator but have a backup of your Google account, restore the app to your new device via Settings → Google → Restore. 2FA codes will be saved.
Method 3: Calling a tied number
In some regions, Xiaomi allows you to confirm your entry via voice call:
- On the SMS input screen, click Call Me (if the option is available).
- The system will call the attached number and dictate the code.

3. Passwordless entry: Restoration of access
If you forget your Mi Account password, you can reset it through the official recovery process, and it's important that you have access to at least one of your email or phone links.
Instructions:
- On the account login screen, click Forgot your password.
- Enter the email or phone attached to your account.
- Choose a Recovery Method: 📧 Email – Reset link will come to the mail. 📱 SMS — The reset code will come in the message.
Create a new password (minimum length – 8 characters, be sure to have letters and numbers).
If neither email nor phone is tied (or you lost them), it will be more difficult to restore access, in which case you will have to contact Xiaomi support with proof of account ownership (checks for buying devices, screenshots of support correspondence, etc.).

4. Entering from someone else’s phone: risks and security measures
If you are temporarily using a friend’s or relative’s phone, it is important to take precautions to avoid losing access to your account and putting the device owner’s data at risk.
⚠️ Warning: Never save your Mi Account on someone else's phone as your primary. Be sure to log out after logging in via Settings → Accounts. → Mi Account → Otherwise, the owner of the phone will have access to your data (photos, contacts, location via Find Device).
How to safely enter:
- 🔐 Use guest mode (if available on the device).
- 📱 Sign in via your browser (account.xiaomi.com) and not via your phone settings.
- 🧹 After you finish, clear the browser cache and delete the history.
If you need to download data from your account (such as a MIUI backup), do so via Settings → About Phone → Backup, but don’t save the file on someone else’s device – use the cloud (Google Drive, Mi Cloud) or external drive.
5. Features of the entrance on devices with different firmware
The authorization process may vary depending on the MIUI version and regional firmware, and the key differences are as follows:
| MIUI version | Features of the entrance | Frequent problems |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12–13 | Requires mandatory confirmation via SMS or email. | The “too many attempts” error occurs when you enter your password frequently. |
| MIUI 14 | Support for face/fingerprint login (if configured on an old phone) | Google Authenticator login on some regional firmware is not working. |
| MIUI 15 (Global) | Simplified authorization for HyperOS devices. | Requires an update to Google Play Services to work 2FA correctly. |
| Castom firmware (LineageOS, PixelExperience) | Login is only possible through the browser or third-party Mi Account clients. | The “Service is not available” error is due to the lack of Xiaomi services. |
If you have Chinese firmware installed (for example, on the Xiaomi 13T Pro for the domestic market), sign-in to Mi Account may require a Chinese phone number.
- Use the international version of MIUI (Global/EEA).
- If you cannot change firmware, create a new account via email (without being tied to your phone).
6 What to do if your old phone is lost or broken
This is even more complicated if you don't have access to an old device that had a Mi Account login on it.
Step 1: Check the attached devices
Go to i.mi.com from a computer or other phone and try to log in. If you have sync enabled, a list of associated devices may be displayed there. If you have a working smartphone or tablet, use it to confirm your login.
Step 2: Recovery through Support
If access is lost completely:
- Go to the support page: account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
- Choose other ways to restore.
- Fill out the form by specifying: 🆔 IMEI Old phone (can be found on a box or check). 📅 Account Registration Date (approximately). 🛒 Order numbers from Xiaomi’s official store (if you bought the device).
Attach scans of documents (passport, check) and send a request.
⚠️ Note: Recovery through support can take up to 7 days.If the account is tied to a device with a Mi Cloud lock (for example, after a reset), unlocking can cost from 500 to 2000 rubles through official service centers.
Step 3: Creating a new account
If you can’t restore your old account and access to the data is not critical, it’s easier to create a new Mi Account:
- Go to Settings → Accounts → Add an account → Mi Account → Register.
- Please enter a new email or phone.
- Create a strong password and save it in a password manager (like Bitwarden or Google Password Manager).
💡
If you are selling or transferring an old phone, be sure to log out of Mi Account and reset to factory settings, otherwise the new owner will be able to recover your data through the cloud.
