Losing or stealing a smartphone is stressful, especially if the device stores personal data, photos or access to banking applications. Fortunately, remote locking of a Xiaomi phone is possible even without physical access to the device. In this article, we will examine all the current ways, from official Mi Account services and Google Find My Device to interaction with the carrier.
Importantly, the effectiveness of the lock depends on whether sync with your Xiaomi or Google account was enabled before you lost your phone, and if you never set up these features, the chances of remote locking are dramatically reduced β but there are alternatives, and letβs take a look at them in detail.
1. Blocking through Mi Account (official method)
The most reliable method is to use Xiaomiβs Find Device service, which works on all models from the budget Redmi 9A to the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
- πΉ Mi Account is enabled (linked to the device)
- πΉ Activated function Find the device in the settings
- πΉ Internet connection (mobile network or Wi-Fi)
If these conditions are met, follow the instructions:
- Go to the Mi Account website and log in under your account.
- In the menu, select Find Device (or Find the device in the Russian version).
- The map will show the last known location of the phone, and on the right will be a panel with options.
- Click Lock Device and set a new password (at least 6 characters).
- Add a contact message (e.g., Found? Call: +7 XXX XXX XXX) to appear on the lock screen.
Make sure your phone is connected to the internet |
Check if the settings are reset (if so, the method will not work)|
Access to an email or phone number linked to Mi Account|
Prepare a reserve password from the account (in case of blocking)-->
β οΈ Warning: If the attacker has already reset the phone to the factory settings (Hard Reset), remote locking through Mi Account will become impossible.
2 Use Google Find My Device
If your Xiaomi has a Google account set up (which is likely because it is required to install apps from the Play Market), you can lock your device through Find My Device, a method that works even if the Mi Account wasnβt tied.
Instructions:
- Open Find My Device in your browser and sign in under the same Google account that was used on your phone.
- In the list of devices, select the lost Xiaomi (if there are several).
- Press Device Protection β Lockdown.
- Enter a new password (it will replace the current PIN/pattern lock) and confirm the action.
- Optionally, add a message to the lock screen asking to return the phone.
π Important nuance: If Factory Reset Protection was enabled on the phone (FRP) (Reset protection, even after Hard Reset, an attacker will not be able to activate the device without your Google account data.+.

3. IMEI blocking through the operator
If remote locking through accounts is not possible (for example, the phone was reset or never tied to Mi/Google), the last measure remains IMEI lock. This method will not return the device to you, but will make it useless for attackers: the phone will not be able to connect to any mobile networks in Russia and most countries of the world.
The locking will require:
- π Passport of the phone owner (or power of attorney if another person applies)
- π± IMEI Devices (can be found in a box, check or via *#06# on another phone if previously saved)
- π Documents confirming the purchase (check, warranty card, purchase agreement)
Action:
- Contact the communication salon of your operator (MTS, Beeline, MegaFon, Tele2) or call the support service.
- Report theft/loss and provide IMEI. The operator will lock it in its database.
- For a complete blocking in all networks, file a report with the police (on the fact of theft / loss) - this will speed up the process.
| Operator. | Support phone | IMEI lockdown deadline | Additionally. |
|---|---|---|---|
| MTS | 0890 or 8 800 250 0890 | 24-48 hours | Can be blocked through your personal account |
| Beeline | 0611 or 8 800 700 0611 | 72 hours | Visit to the office with a passport is required |
| MegaFon | 0500 or 8 800 550 0500 | 48 hours | Blocking is possible online through the personal account |
| Tele2. | 611 or 8 800 555 0611 | 3 days | You need to write a statement in the office. |
β οΈ Attention: Lockdown IMEI If the device has not been set a password, the attacker will be able to use it in offline mode (for example, to play games or view downloaded files). To fully protect yourself, combine this method with remote data erasure (if possible).

In case of loss, send an SMS message to the phone with the text lock [your code] β the device will lock automatically.
5.What to do if the phone has already been dropped?
If an attacker has made a Hard Reset, the chances of a remote lock are minimal, but there are a few steps to take:
- Check it out. FRP-lock: When you turn on the phone after the reset, a window should appear that requires you to enter the Google account information that was on the device.
- Contact the police: With a report of theft (Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and provide IMEI. This will increase the chances of returning the phone if it is found.
- Check out sites like Avito, Yula or Facebook Marketplace β sometimes thieves sell phones with original IMEIs.
π§ On some Xiaomi models (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro or other models). POCO X3) After the reset, the Mi Account remains tied, even if FRP It's turned off. In this case, the first time you connect to the Internet, the phone locks again.
