Lost Xiaomi? Move fast!
Losing a smartphone is stressful, especially if it stores personal photos, access to banking apps or work correspondence. Xiaomi devices have several built-in protection mechanisms, but their effectiveness depends on how quickly you react. The first 10 to 15 minutes after a loss are critical: the faster you lock your phone, the lower the risk of data leakage or unauthorized purchases.
In this article, weβll look at all the ways you can block a lost Xiaomi, from official Mi Account and Google Find My Device services to operator interactions, and how to track your phoneβs location even after resets if Xiaomiβs Find Device function has been activated on it. Importantly, some methods only work when youβre online on your device, so donβt waste time!
Method 1: Blocking with Mi Account (Official Xiaomi Service)
The most reliable way is to use Xiaomiβs built-in Find Device feature, which works even if youβre not using it. SIM-map extracted, but requires:
- πΉ Linked Mi Account (you should have logged in on your phone).
- πΉ Internet enabled (Wi-Fi or mobile data) on the lost device.
- πΉ Activated Find Device function in settings (Settings) β Mi Account β Find Device).
If the conditions are met, follow the instructions:
- Go to account.xiaomi.com and log in.
- From the menu, select Find Device (or Find Device in the Russian version).
- The map will show the last known location of the phone, and on the right will be the Lock Device button.
- Enter a new password to unlock (at least 6 characters) and confirm the action.
Is the Mi Account linked to the phone?
Is Find Device enabled in the settings?
Is there internet access on the lost device?
Have you memorized the password from your Mi Account?-->
β οΈ Warning: If the attacker has time to reset the phone to the factory settings (Hard Reset), the lock through the Mi Account will be removed. To avoid this, activate the Reset Protection function (available on models with the Reset). MIUI 12+). For that:
- Go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (tap 7 times to turn on the developer mode).
- Return to Settings β Additional β For Developers β Reset Protection and activate the option.

Method 2: Google Find My Device
If a Google account was linked to Xiaomi, you can block it through Find My Device, which works independently of the Mi Account, but requires:
- πΉ Log in to a Google account on a lost phone.
- πΉ Remote Features Included in Google Settings (Settings) β Google β Security β Find my device).
- πΉ Access to the Internet on the device.
Instructions:
- Go to google.com/android/find and log in to your account.
- Select the lost device from the list (if there are several).
- Click Safe Mode (locks the phone with data saved) or Erase data (full reset).
- To block, specify a message with a contact number (will appear on the lock screen) and a new password.
πΉ The advantage of the method: works even if the Mi Account is not tied or disabled Find Device.
πΈ Disadvantage: If an attacker executes Hard Reset, the lock will be removed (unlike Mi Account with reset protection).

Method 3: IMEI blocking through a communications operator
If the phone is stolen and remote locking is impossible (no internet, no services are disabled), IMEI locks remain, and this is the only way to make the device useless to the attacker, even after resetting.
- Find it. IMEI phone: π In the box from the device (on the sticker). π± On a check or a security card. π₯οΈ In the Mi Account (Devices sectionΒ»).

If the phone was on credit or leasing, be sure to report the theft to the bank! Attackers can try to apply for a new loan on your data through the applications of banks installed on the device.
Method 4: Remote data erasure (if the phone is not found)
If you can't get your phone back, but it's storing sensitive data (photos, passwords, banking apps), use remote erasure, which will remove all the information from the device, but make it impossible to recover.
- πΉ Mi Account (Find Device) β Erase Data).
- πΉ Google Find My Device (Search My Device).
πΉ Important: After erasing, you can't track your phone! Use this method only if you're sure the device won't be returned.

Remote erasure is a last resort. If the phone is turned off, the command will be executed the next time you connect to the Internet. You will have 24 hours to cancel the action (in Google Find My Device).
Method 5: Blocking Bank Cards and Accounts
Even if your phone is locked, attackers can try to use stored bank card data or access to your accounts.
- Block your bank cards: π³ Using the bankβs mobile application (if you have access from another device). π By phone hotline (numbers are usually shown on the back of the card).
- Revoke access to accounts: π VK, Instagram, Telegram: log in from another device and delete all active sessions (Settings) β Security β Active sessions). π§ Mail (Gmail, Mail.ru): check the last logins and change the password.
