Spam messages, carrier ads and annoying contacts can ruin the mood of any Xiaomi owner. According to Kaspersky Lab, in 2026, one in three smartphone users encounter unwanted SMS every week. Fortunately, MIUI offers several tools to block such messages, from standard Android features to unique solutions from Xiaomi.
In this article, you will find 5 proven ways to get rid of spam: from basic blocking through the Messages app to advanced security settings MIUI. We will look at solutions for different versions of firmware (MIUI 14/15) and models (Redmi Note 12, POCO X5, Xiaomi 13T and others), especially focusing on hidden MIUI functions that are not written about in official instructions โ for example, how to block messages from unknown numbers automatically or set a โblacklistโ for specific keywords.
1. Standard lock through the application "Messages"
The easiest way is to use Googleโs or Xiaomiโs built-in Messages app, which works on all Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO models regardless of the MIUI version.
To block a specific number:
- Open the Messages app and find a dialog with unwanted contact
- Slip on three points in the upper right corner โ select Details
- Click on the icon. โฎ (still) โ Lock down
- Confirm the action by selecting OK in the window that appears
For mass blocking of spam:
- ๐ Select several messages with a long press
- ๐ซ Click on the basket icon or lock icon in the top panel
- ๐ Choose Block the sender for all allocated
๐ก
If there is no lock icon in the messaging list, update the Messages app via Google Play. Xiaomi regularly adds new lock features in updates.
2.Setting up the "Black List" in MIUI Security
MIUI has its own security application, Security, where you can configure an extended lock, which is effective against spambots and mass mailings.
Instructions for setting:
- Open Settings โ Applications โ Security (or find the Security icon on your desktop)
- Go to the section Blocking โ Blacklist
- Click Add and select: ๐ Phone numbers for manual entry ๐ From the call log - for a selection from history ๐ From messages - to block spammers
Block messages
The advantage of this method is that you can block by keywords, for example, you can disable all messages that contain the words "credit", "win" or "share".
- In the Blacklist section, select Settings โ Message filter
- Add words or phrases by comma
- Set the filtration level: Medium or Hard
What if the blacklist doesnโt work?
3. Automatic spam filtering through Google Messages
If you use Google Messages instead of the standard Xiaomi app, additional AI tools are available to filter spam, a technique that is particularly effective for owners of POCO F5 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, where Google Messages is installed by default.
Activation of automatic filtration:
- Open Google Messages โ tap on the profile avatar in the upper right corner
- Select Message Settings โ Protection against spam
- Turn on the options: ๐ก๏ธ Spam filtering โ for automatic sorting ๐ Check links โ to block phishing links ๐ Reporting to improve Googleโs algorithms
Once activated, all suspicious messages will be placed in the Spam folder and blocked, and it is important to check this folder once a week, sometimes legitimate messages (for example, from banks) get there.
4. Blocking through the operator
If the spam comes from a specific operator (such as mass mailings from MTS or Beeline), you can use their own blocking services, which is free and works at the network level, regardless of the phone model.
| Operator. | Lockdown team | Support number |
|---|---|---|
| MTS | *111*777# or send an SMS with the STOP text to 111 | 0890 |
| Beeline | Send stop advertising to 7878 | 0611 |
| MegaFon | *505# or SMS STOP on 000105 | 0500 |
| Tele2. | Send stop to 1527. | 611 |
Note that operator blocking is only for advertising, and private messages from individuals will have to be blocked in other ways.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some operators may charge for SMS-teams (usually) 1-3 Before sending, check the rates on the official website.
5. Third-party applications to block spam
If the built-in MIUI tools don't work, you can install specialized applications. We tested 5 popular solutions and selected the best ones for Xiaomi:
- ๐ก๏ธ Truecaller โ blocks spam calls and SMS, has a database of scammers (free, there is a premium version)
- ๐ SMS Blocker โ allows you to create blocking rules for keywords and regular expressions
- ๐ต Hiya โ specializes in blocking fraudulent messages from โbanksโ and โsupport services"
- ๐ค Messages by Google (already mentioned above) โ built-in protection from Google
For installation:
- Download the app from Google Play
- Grant permissions to read SMS and send SMS
- Configure the lock rules according to the application instructions
Make a backup copy of messages
Check the reviews about the application (rating not lower than 4.2)
Disable duplicate functions in MIUI Security
Provide only the necessary permits (not all!)
-->
โ ๏ธ Note: Some anti-spam apps (especially the little-known ones) can intercept your messages for analysis.Install only proven programs with high ratings and a large number of reviews.
6. Reset Message Settings (if nothing helps)
In rare cases, spam continues to pass even after all the blockings, which may be due to a failure in the message database or application conflict, then resetting the settings will help:
Instructions:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management
- Find Messages (or Messages) and select it.
- Tap Storage โ Clear data and Clear cache
- Reboot the phone.
After discharge:
- ๐ All locks will have to be reset.
- ๐ฅ Save messages will remain, but importance tags may be missing
- โ๏ธ It is recommended to immediately update the application "Messages" to the latest version
๐ก
Resetting your message settings is a last resort, and before doing so, make sure to check if softer methods (such as updating your MIUI or changing your SMS application) help.
