Owners of smartphones Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO Often, you're faced with a situation where the previously installed application protection begins to interfere with the comfortable use of the gadget. SIM-map or just decided that the constant input of code is no longer relevant. MIUI HyperOS offers powerful encryption tools, but sometimes they need to be deactivated to restore access.
The process of disabling protection depends on whether you remember the current unlock code or access to the data lost. In the first case, the procedure takes a few seconds through the settings menu. In the second case, when the password is forgotten, you will need to work more deeply with the system data or the Mi Account. It is important to understand the difference between these scenarios to choose the right method of solving the problem.
In this article, we will look at all the possible ways to unblock, and we will look at the standard methods of disconnection through settings, using a cloud account for resetting, as well as radical measures like data cleanup, and following these recommendations, you can regain full control of your device without having to go to a service center.
Standard Disconnection of Protection through Security Settings
The easiest and most obvious way to remove a password is to use the regular functionality of the system if you remember the current unlock code or can enter it. To do this, go to the Settings menu of your smartphone. Depending on the version of the shell, the item you want can be called “Security”, “App Protection” or located inside the Security application (green icon with a shield).
Once you log in to the security section, the system will ask you to enter your current pattern lock, digital code, or fingerprint, a mandatory security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your privacy settings, and if you successfully log in, you will see a list of all the applications that are blocked.
To completely disable the function, you need to find a switch at the top of the screen, which is usually signed as "Application Protection" or "Enable Protection." By putting it inactive, you will unblock all programs at the same time. However, if your goal is to remove the password only from a particular software, you better use individual list settings.
💡
Disabling the common switch removes protection from all applications at once, but requires confirmation by the current password.
Note that newer versions of MIUI 14 and HyperOS may have slightly different interfaces, and the path may look like Settings → Applications → Application Protection. In some regions, settings are placed in a separate Privacy menu. If the standard path doesn’t work, search by settings by typing in “protection” or “lock.”
Resetting password through Mi Account
If you forget your password, but your smartphone is tied to your Xiaomi account, you have the option to reset protection remotely. This method only works if the device has access to the Internet (via Wi-Fi or mobile network) and the Find Device feature has been activated before, which is the most secure way to restore access without losing personal data.
To start, go to the official i.mi.com website from any other device or directly from your phone through your browser in incognito mode. You need to log in using the same Mi Account that is activated on the locked smartphone. After logging in, select the "Device Search" or "Security" section.
In the device management menu, find the option associated with blocking applications. The web version interface allows you to remotely reset the application protection password. The system will send a command to the phone, and the next time you enter the wrong password or after rebooting, the device will prompt you to set a new combination or disable protection using a confirmation code from SMS or email.
- 🔒 Make sure your smartphone is on before trying to reset.
- 📱 Use the same browser where you saved your Mi Account login to speed up the process.
- 📧 The confirmation code may be delayed, so be patient.
What to do if the site does not see the device?
Cleaning the data of the “Security” application
When the password is forgotten and the account binding is not helpful or absent, the only software method is to clean the data of the system component responsible for encryption. In Xiaomi shells, the Security app is responsible for this.
To do this, open your smartphone Settings and go to Apps. Select All Apps or Application Management. In the list that opens, find a system application called Security (shield icon). Note that this is a system application, not a shortcut on your desktop.
Inside the app menu, find the Memory or Storage button, display space and cache. You need to click Clear or Clear Data. The system will alert you that all application data will be deleted. Confirm action. Application protection will then be reset, and no password will be asked (or asked to create a new one) when you try to log in to secure programs.
☑️ Algorithm of resetting through memory
There's a caveat: some firmware versions can block data cleanup without entering a screen unlock password. If the system requires a password to confirm the data cleanup, try first to turn off the Internet to prevent cloud data from being checked, and repeat the procedure. Sometimes starting the cleanup process immediately after the phone restarts helps.
Use of guest mode and second space
The MIUI shell has the unique function of dividing space into First (main) and Second (guest) if you have set a password for apps in the main profile but have access to the second space, this can be a loophole to manage some aspects, although direct resetting of the first space password is usually impossible from here.
Guest mode allows you to start your phone with clean settings, where there is no application protection. You can switch to this mode through the notification panel or in the settings → Special features → Second space. This will not remove the password from your main profile, but will give temporary access to the functionality of the smartphone for making calls or searching for information.
Some users mistakenly believe that deleting a user or guest profile will reset the main one. It is not. Moreover, actively using the second space can sometimes conflict with the security settings of the first one. If you do not use this feature, it is recommended to disable it to exclude software conflicts that can lead to erroneous password requests.
| Parameter | Main space | Second space | Guest mode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Access to data | Complete. | Isolated. | Temporary |
| Application protection | Active (if tuned in) | Separately configured | Disconnected. |
| Password impact | Carrying the primary password | It doesn't affect the main | It doesn't affect the main |
| Use of the | Daily | For work/personal separation | For temporary transfer |
💡
Use Second Space as a sandbox to install suspicious apps so you don’t have to worry about protecting your main profile.
Radical method: complete resetting of settings
If none of the above methods worked, and you can’t remember your password, the last option is a complete reset of the device to the factory settings (Hard Reset), which is guaranteed to remove any password, but completely destroys all user data: photos, contacts, correspondence and installed applications will be permanently deleted.
To reset without access to the phone menu, you need to use Recovery mode. Turn off the smartphone completely. Then press the button combination: usually it's Volume Up + Power. Hold them until the Mi logo or recovery menu appears. In the Recovery menu, the navigation is done with volume buttons and the choice is with the power button.
Select the language (English), then go to Wipe Data and confirm the action (Wipe All Data). The process will take a few minutes. Once completed, the phone will reboot as new. When you first set up, the system may request a password from the Mi Account (anti-theft protection), so make sure you remember the data from the account.
⚠️ Warning: Before performing a full reset, make sure you know the login and password from your Google account and Mi Account.Otherwise, the device may be locked permanently due to anti-theft feature (FRP).
Prevention and backup
To prevent the situation with the forgotten password from recurring, it is recommended to set up automatic backup. In Xiaomi smartphones, this can be done through Mi Cloud or Google Drive. Regular backup will allow you to quickly restore contacts, call history and even a list of installed applications in the event of a reset.
Alternative security options are also worth considering: instead of a complex pattern lock that is easy to forget, you can use biometrics; fingerprint or face ID is much more convenient and secure; you can set them up in Settings → passwords and security → unlock. Biometrics are stored in a secure module of the phone and not transferred to servers.
Remember to periodically check the relevance of the associated phone number and email in the settings of the Mi Account. If you change the SIM card without updating the data in the account, the restoration of access through SMS will become impossible. Regular maintenance of the digital profile is the key to the safe use of modern gadgets.
⚠️ Warning: Don't use simple passwords like "1234" or "0000" to protect applications, and while they're easy to remember, they're also easy to pick up by someone who's picking up the phone.
